Hey, I'm sorry that I can't really help you out with this, as I have a 'normal' freelance day job which is the title I use for my tax form. I'm sure other girls will be able to help you out though. what about 'internet consultant' or 'online customer service provider' or something similar?
ah yes online customer service provider would be a really good one to use so may well use that thanks hun i just hate the fact that the gov is so nosey i was thinking of not declaring but i dont want to face prison xx

I agree with the girl above ^ ....Putting 'online customer services' , is a poor idea . When it comes to doing your expenses, claiming for your shoes, dance clothes, toys and make up is not really going to work if you're listed as an online customer service adviser !!!
Put something related to the industry , so you at least are not paying tax for what you spend on your business.... I would suggest internet model , internet dancer etc ...
Try and use both the model aspect combined with the web, so that you don't have a problem if you need to claim webdesign, hosting fees, advertising etc on expenses too .
Good luck , and good idea registering to pay tax !

cyber-model?
yeah, I think it depends on how comfortable you feel with potentially revealing cam work versus the desire to claim expenses. I only claim expenses on my vanilla employment (which covers laptop etc) but not any cam related expenses. If I am inspected by HMRC then I don't really want to be having to drag out my Ann Summers receipts and explaining how I 'use' the products for work!
Model :) coz its what you are, just not ellaberated :D

ok internet model it is then, i will calim for everything except toys i thinks, find that a bit embarassing show hmrc lol xx
When I do my business returns , I claim for absolutely everything ! HMR customs won't embarrass me out of claiming for anything !!! And in 8 years - I've never been asked to explain what I use my dildos for ;) Also it stands true that if you do not list your camwork and you DO get investigated ..... your bank/payment processors will show where your money comes from . A friend of mine got pulled AND FINED for this several years back ..... They charged her with the fact she did not list BOTH her businesses.
It is of course perfectly up to you what you do , but as we all know, once they're onto one* nothing gets past them . ( in the UK )
Missy
yeah absolutely i dont want to get into any trouble with the taxman would rather delcare it and ok if you all say they dont ask about your toys then might as well claim for them too! thank you all so much for your help xx
looks like I'm gonna have to change mine too then! :D
Claim anything you can !!! Don't be embarassed in the slightest ! It's an unlikely event that you would have to explain face to face to anyone even should your expenses be questioned. Not out of the question, but definitely unlikely.... If you're listed as an internet model - who is going to ask you what you need sex toys for :) If they decline an expense because they don't think it pertains strongly enough to the business in question - that is not prosecutable, rather they will just refuse you claim it .... or advice what % of that expense would be more appropriate .
I remember years ago , they wrote to my mother to inform her that my father was not allowed to claim for the cost of washing his work uniforms as they fall under 'wifely duties' ...... lol Not really relevant , but I found it amusing!
But another point on the embarrassment front .... the new tax forms do not actually ask you to break down your expenses.... rather you just list them as a total figure, and only have to send in follow up evidences and breakdowns, should they want to question your return further.
I think it's a bit different for you Bex, having a real mainstream business in tow that's making money , although I know my friend was caught out by trying to hide her adult business, her real time business didn't exist , though she paid her tax in full under it, they were still peeved at the fact she hadn't registered her 'other business' ..... I think the tax man* doesn't care about our sex work but as soon as they think you're hiding anything BOOM .
I have 2 businesses registered, one for modeling online and another for webdesign. It was the tax helpline who advised me to open them both. I do my own returns now, but still have both registered.
I think it's not as simple as *they're happy as long as they get their money* , there's lots of loopholes and tricks depending on which and how you transfer money between businesses . (including ones own ) which leaves the tax man perhaps one of the nosiest and most invasive individual on this planet !

aww thank you so much that makes me feel a little better also sorry to be such a pain but can you claim for things like make up, haircuts and anything that you go to the salon for such as lash extensions, manis-pedis and waxing and skincare etc or is that pushing it too much?
also i remember reading somewhere there is an online bank which i think is foreign but you can transfer money from it into your bank account and it will come up anonamously so could we not open one of those then not delcare the money to mister taxman? or open a swiss account? lol xx
You can *try* and claim for anything you think pertains to your business....But the chances of being allowed to claim for things such as hair and salon fees are very slim . The Taxman* would claim that these are things you ( or an otherwise employed individual) would have to spend on anyway ,and they don't get any tax allowances. Even my telephone line was rejected as 100% tax expense based on the fact , most people in this day and age have a telephone line already, and I would most likely be paying for one independent of my business existing . I ended up getting a second line over the years anyway , for other reasons , and now I can claim that phone line as a business line. Fuel receipts and such are generally a good thing to keep hold of ;) , most businesses could* use transport .
As for offshore accounts - Some get away with it .... some don't . They do however make sure that when they catch people, they make a nice big example of them , and fine them large enough fines to ensure it wasn't worth their while . Not like the 60£ fine I got for not buying a tv license in 10 years !!!! :D
I personally wouldn't suggest offshore accounts, but then I guess anyone paying tax wouldn't suggest to anyone that they don't bother , so my opinion may be slightly biased ! As for the money entering your bank and not showing where it comes from ..... that's all fair and well to back up the 'online customer service' idea.... it wouldn't get you out of paying the tax as the monies are still going in ...... Hiding it in offshore is another story , but definitely too much of a risky story for me.
Missy xx
PS- Hiding money is bad for reasons other than being caught ( although obviously that's the worse ) In the future if you want to buy a house , flash car etc ..... Our proof of earnings are in are tax returns , if someones hiding the majority of their income in offshore, to any mortgage adviser etc it's going to come over as if the person applying is only earning a fraction of their true income .
ah right thanks hun i will try the beauty product side, after all we have to look good dont we :) along with wigs clothes toys etc, my internet is free due to being a student so i dont have to worry about that.
i know everyone hates paying taxes including myself and dont me get started on where our taxes go! that is my biggest gripe for sure, im a student the gov doesnt give me enough money to live off and due to the recession they put us in there are now no jobs why should i have to be paying tax twice, once for the job and the other being student loan! right rant over
thank you soooo much for all your help makes things so much clearer now, also sorry forgot to ask how long have i got to registar being self employed is it three months? xx
Yeah it is..... They try and fine you £100 if you registered over 3 months of your business starting , but you can appeal it if you aint reached the tax threshold in said business and they will usually refrain from insisting the fine's paid . It's best to get it out of the way though .
Good luck <3
