Curvy, Thick and Fit on the Pole
Ok ladies,
I want to tighten up and get fit. I have been looking at videos from some of the dancers at King of Diamonds in Miami on Worldstarhiphop.com. These girls are amazing and I would love to work the pole with the same effort and tenacity that they do. I know pole dancing comes from practice and more practice but with the limited amount of studios in NJ and NY that offer pole dancing classes; I am dismayed. I am actually going to look up more information on S factor individual classes.
I'm already jogging about 1.5 a day upping it to two soon. Im watching my calorie intake and making sure junk food is on a limited basis in my diet. Maybe because I see the wow factor in pole dancing, even if I dont really need it, I want to learn how to do it.
I want to perform and not be just another dancer.
Any advice would help...thanks in advance guys.

Re: Curvy, Thick and Fit on the Pole
wow. those girls are EXTREMELY talented.
there some tricks I've never even seen in my life...like unfathomable shit.

Re: Curvy, Thick and Fit on the Pole
You aren't going to get even close to that with S Factor. If you want to be able to do moves like that you are going to need to take some basic courses & then start doing individual lessons with top industry professionals in the pole business known for crazy tricks... like Pantera Blacksmith. After that a lot of it will be experimentation on what your own body can handle.

Re: Curvy, Thick and Fit on the Pole
You'll definitely need a space to practice the holds and get your strength up. It takes time. I knew a girl who would drop from the ceiling fast upside down and stop one inch from the floor! She would do this multiple times a week flawlessly. Another girl would cartwheel onto the pole catching it with her legs! She could flip up the pole and back down with momentum and a LOT of core strength. Your core is the area of your abs and lower back. Gymnastics helps a LOT. I used to flip on and off the pole but I was into gymnastics so I was used to that nonsense. LOL! Now I only show new girls who ask me or do it to show off for rocker/biker guys and make-it-rain types. I can't be bothered to do it for looky loos. Make sure your club will reward all that work. You'll get bruised and strain your muscles. I recommend practicing with leather or patent leather thigh high boots so you can work for long periods without bruising your skin as much. Pilates and yoga can also improve your flexibility and muscle control. A lot of is upper body/arm strength and getting comfortable with shifting your center of gravity.

Re: Curvy, Thick and Fit on the Pole
You should check out Studio Veena because she has amazing lessons and a lot of crazy tricks. Once you get the hang of tricks you will likely be able to make up your own tricks or also learn ones from other girls that post their videos.
Also, you should invest in an X-Pole because they're amazing and practicing at home is probably the best way to really get good.
Good luck :)

Re: Curvy, Thick and Fit on the Pole
Im 5'6 160, and ive trained my self to do these moves in the club over the last few years. I am still able to walk the celing and much more but it is hell to maintain. There are a few things i will suggest to you if this is the type of antics you wish to do. know your body weight and be able to not only lift it, but to hold it. im a naturally strong girl due to weight training, so i am able to lift a lil more than my body weight. leg and arm strength is a must.the gym is your best friend, and with that said i mean weights. Not heavy weights but enough for you to get strength. I would suggest for you to keep watching how its done and practice, practice practice. I have a pole in my home so i am able to do it every day. i got mine for about 150, but if you dont have one check you city locally for classes and open halls. Here in vegas we have a few. The more you do it the easier it will get. expect heavy bruising and sore muscles but believe me its worth it. Ill take some pics soon as i get some one to take em for me lol. Good luck !! :D:D

Re: Curvy, Thick and Fit on the Pole
Thanks ladies, i do have a pole in my home, just recently purchased it. So, weight lifting will definitely be on my agenda.
I am doing this more for myself than the client. I just want to prove to myself that I can do it.

Re: Curvy, Thick and Fit on the Pole
I wanna use the pole at your place!! LOL
I have been comparing some classes to go to here in Manhattan- if you want I will send you the links, maybe you and I could go together. One place looks SO freaking legit~ they are at the top of my list.
We need to motivate each other, that we we can double team them at KOD in 2011!
I've seen the twitter of some of those dancers- going to work in Alexander McQueen and Gucci heels- I want in!:P;D
I saw this video of a bigger woman doing pole tricks....I told myself I wanted to slim down just to go to classes, but look at how she does this at her size. If she can do all that, I have no more excuses to use!

Re: Curvy, Thick and Fit on the Pole
^^you are absolutely right Dayla, time to get in that group! Lol
Have u started at the studio yet or are you still comparing? Two/three years ago there were much less pole dancing classes available. I went back to check a short while ago and was so surprised to see just how many there are now.
The hardest thing is separating the ones who will teach you how to get better on the pole to use in a strip club setting from the ones who just want to teach non-dancers how to feel/look sexy at home. That's fine for them, but I already know how to feel sexy, I want to know how to rock on the pole.
Which place are you looking at Dayla- you can PM me if you'd like.

Re: Curvy, Thick and Fit on the Pole

Re: Curvy, Thick and Fit on the Pole
Oh my goodness. I had so many "OMG!" moments where I had to cover my eyes cause I thought the dancer was gonna fall when I watched that first video the OP posted from worldstar. Wow... wow, wow, wow, the day that I can hang from a ceiling beam and then drop into a split will be one of the greatest days of my life. Those are the things that legends are made of.

Re: Curvy, Thick and Fit on the Pole

^Felix Cane is unparalleled on the pole. I barely watch pole dancing competitions and I know who she is.
I won't be happy until I can do that move she did at 1:46 where she's in a split and her ankles are swinging her around the pole- anyone know what that's called?
