Am I making excuses?
... or doing things the right way?
First of all,.... HI! I'm Addison... I'm 24... I like long walks on the beach....haha, just kidding. But seriously, I'm a super newbie, I've never danced before and I'm looking to get started.
I'd like to start sooner rather than later, but I feel like there's so much preparation that goes into starting a successful dance career. I'm like, first, I need to get SGR, take some pole classes, get a lot of dance practice in, buy some bangin' outfits and shoes, hair, nails, read every thread here, etc. etc.
One part of me feels that this is all necessary ... another part of me feels that I'm just making excuses and all of these things can be done and learned while on the job. I can just go buy a few inexpensive outfits & shoes and get out there and work it.
Am I making excuses or going about things the right way? Is there such a thing as over preparation? Let me know before I sign up for this lap dance class!

Re: Am I making excuses?
Umm I didn't sign up for shit when I started dancing 5 years ago. I just dived in head first and went with it.
Just pick A. DECENT. CLUB.
Be safe. Have fun.
Buy a few outfits. I get alot of my stuff here since its so cheap and their shipping has always been quick.

Re: Am I making excuses?
JUST DO IT!!!! Seriously! I've been wanting to start dancing for like 2 years, but I was always too nervous & making excuses like "I need to get in better shape" or "I don't have anything to wear." Well a few days ago I went & bought a $30 bikini looking thing, put on my tallest stilettos and went & auditioned...I got the job & I start on Sunday! I have no idea how to pole dance & I don't have any "stripper" shoes or outfits, hopefully I'll find something in time! The hardest part was walking out of the dressing room half naked and walking up the steps to the stage, once the music started and I started dancing, I felt completely comfortable, like I'd been dancing for years! I wish I would've done this sooner! I plan on taking pole classes, working out & investing in outfits, shoes, hair, nails, etc. but I really don't think it's a necessity to start. As long as you can dance a little, and look halfway decent, I figure you can just learn & improve as you go!

Re: Am I making excuses?
I'm going echo the "just do it" sentiment. You're overthinking how much it takes to be a dancer. Pole dancing and even regular dancing is not a prerequisite for the job. When on stage and in lap dances, it's most important to move slow, make eye contact, and do moves/poses that are flattering and draw attention to your best assets. A pair of stripper heels are the best investment and most important purchase you can make, as they really do make all the difference. Outfits can be purchased over time, and I'm sure you even have some things in your closet that would work. As long as they're sexy, you feel hot in them, and they're easy to take off, they're good to go. Just go!

Re: Am I making excuses?
Ah, you all have kind of echoed what I've been telling myself -- just do it!! I'm gonna use the next few weeks to work like hell at my regular job, just to be sure that I have rent/bills for the next month already taken care of ... I'm gonna buy some basic supplies and I'm off to play with the big girls!! Wish me luck! I'll need it haha

Don't quit your regular job just yet....... newbie stripper fail.

Re: Am I making excuses?
^second. Jump right in, yes. But make sure you have a way out if you don't like it! Plus dancing when it is your only source of income is a lot more stressful.
Dancing is also very hard on your body when you first start out so you might not be able to handle more than 2-3 nights a week for the first month. (I seriously couldn't walk properly for 5 days after my first shift--dancing in high heels all night is a lot harder than people give it credit for! You're most likely not going to be jumping to go back to the club right away after your first shift, start slow and make sure you don't hurt yourself :)

Re: Am I making excuses?
Thanks for the insight. I won't quit, I'll just take a leave of absence ... I can't do both jobs at the same time because I usually work nights and weekends.

Re: Am I making excuses?
^Just try dancing only on the night you are off. I'm sure you don't work every night!

Re: Am I making excuses?
I'll try it. I'm a waitress, so I'm on my feet running back and forth all night. I thought the shoes would kill me and the last thing I'd want to do is serve the next day.. I'll give it a shot, though.
