What exactly is a cam studio? and what is adultwork?
Hey everyone! I just want to first introduce myself.. I'm Chanel, a BBW cam lady, and I've been reading this forum for a couple of weeks now- I've only been camming a few months, and not regularly, but I'm going to start making more time for it as I am now only working 15 hours a week at my 'real' job. But I love the forum here, and it's been quite informative for me. I've seen a lot of talk about cam studios, and why they should be avoided.. but what I have failed to understand, is just what exactly IS a cam studio, and why would a person want to be with one to begin with if they take a percentage of your pay? What exactly is it that they provide??? I'd much rather stick to working alone,- as I have enough of a problem with just allowing myself to work so the site can take more than 50% of my pay. I also am seeing that adultwork.com is a pretty hot sites amongst some of you as well.. I went to the site, but it seems somewhat complicated for me to navigate.. so is it a good site for camming?? Thanks for reading ladies, Much love ! :)

Re: What exactly is a cam studio? and what is adultwork?
Most of us here love Adultwork. Yes, at first it is a complicated site. Navigating it will take some getting use to, but once you learn your way around, it's pretty much easy. They pay 70%, and don't have a lot of rules restricting you. You can check out their help section which has so many FAQ'S that I havn't even had a chance to read them all! You can sell videos, pics, panties, do webcam, text chat only, escort listing too, and I don't even know what else. I am still learning. Some ladies on here like to use PrincessJenny's daily pay service, which I believe will have your pay out at 64%, which is still pretty high compared to the standard cam site rates of 30% to 40%. And everyone who uses her service has given her great reviews.
A cam studio is either in a building somewhere, or a person who is setting up a virtual studio through the cam sites. *edit* I just wanted to add that the "virtual" studios, as I call them are just someone who set's up an account for you on the cam site, and basically is taking a cut. Normally they try to promote you, but if you have your own cam, pc, work space, then you don't need them. I understand it is helpful for girls who need help getting started. They basically do for you, what you can already do for yourself. They do normally take a fee, of course, and most people who know better will not normally use that. You want to sign up for cam sites directly, pretty much, and avoid the typical studio.
There is a thread here about most of the sites we work. Most of us pretty much like and use:
Myfreecams
Streamate
Imlive
webcams
Adultwork
Niteflirt
Well those are the sites I have used. I no longer am on MFC.
There are lots of really good threads here, though. You will want to take time to read them.

So you mean with all these lovely threads people don't search the threads at all before posting a question? Just sayin'

Certainly did.. thought I put that out there that I wasn't able to really grasp the whole concept of a cam studio.. thanks ;D

Re: What exactly is a cam studio? and what is adultwork?
Great answer BustyAmeera! :D
Just wanted to add about the studio's. Most people see an advert about webcamming and sign up, not realising they are even in a studio. These studios in my opinion and scamming as they take a % (usually massive) of your earnings for no reason basically. I would avoid these at all costs.
Studios in building provide equipment/privacy/help and sometimes lunch! :) So "sometimes" they are worth it at the start until you can get yourself sorted at home.
Stick around here and you wont go far wrong with camming.

Oh, Welcome to the forums :D

Re: What exactly is a cam studio? and what is adultwork?
Thank you very much BustyAmeera, and PrincessJenny.. I have taken the time to read quite a bit through the threads- but had a hard time finding the definition of what a cam studio really DOES, other than the obvious notation of ripping girls off. So thank you bunches for clearing that up. I will make it a point to figure out the navigation of adultwork.com beings that it is so highly praised. Thank you ladies!

Re: What exactly is a cam studio? and what is adultwork?
Hiya hunny, and welcome! BustyAmeera pretty much got it right. When I FIRST started camming I signed uo through a studio because I didn't know there was any other option. I actually only worked one day. Came back to camming a few months later and signed up on my own. Sooooooooooooo much better. Also note, this was more of a "virtual" studio. Just some dude taking a cut of my money.

Re: What exactly is a cam studio? and what is adultwork?
Uw! and forgot to say welcome to you :)
No need to explain either. We were all new once, and all need help with explanations. Most of the people here are friendly and willing to help you, if you ask. Also, I have been doing this almost 3 years now, and don't have the perfect definition for a studio. There are different types, and yes it can be confusing if you don't know.
I hope PrincessJenny and I explained it the best we could for you. I also agree with PrincessJenny that it could be good for a girl who has absolutely nothing to start, but I would avoid them like the plague if I have my own set up.
Good luck, and feel free to ask us anything, and again WELCOME!

Me too. I actually hate to admit that I was duped my very first time. I always say Imlive was my first place, but actually a studio was my first, and I have no clue what site they had me on. I only worked for them for like 5 days before I realized that something was not right. I don't even remember the name of the studio. I found them on craigslist adult gig section! hahahaha oh lord :D If I had known about these forums that wouldn't have happened to me. I didn't get paid, and I learned real quick about studios after that. Luckily for me, I only did it for 5 days. The way they advertise can be tricky.

Re: What exactly is a cam studio? and what is adultwork?
No. It's just that... some of this stuff is *gasp* common sense.
I don't have much experience camming either but even I knew that. :)

Re: What exactly is a cam studio? and what is adultwork?
I'm glad you know it all and have so much common sense, MsOfficer. It shows.

That's true. If I didn't take a long time thinking about it and didn't find this forum, I wouldn't know that for instance, or whatsitsname is a studio. I mean, they don't post: "SIGN UP WITH US AND WE'LL TAKE A PERCENTAGE OF MONEY THAT'S YOURS JUST BECAUSE WE SAY SO"

Exactly. And thank God for forums like these!

Damn girl, why you so sour? Thanks to every one else for welcoming me to the forum, and helping me out with my seemingly lack of common sense questions there. It's much appreciated

Re: What exactly is a cam studio? and what is adultwork?
Thank you BustyAmeera. I know you know I do.
I just get tired of seeing the same postings. There are like 10 threads
on one subject and no one seems to know how to find them.
:)
:rotfl: I think it's hilarious how everyone gets all worked up when I post.

Re: What exactly is a cam studio? and what is adultwork?
Look, none of us minded the new thread, we were happy to help her and it was also a good way to introduce her self in a fresh light ok? It gave her her own little patch of the forum for her to come check on. If you don't like it stop being a pissy bitch and just walk away because you are bringing some seriously bad vibes. She SEARCHED the forums she just needed a little more clarification. Stop trying to stir up drama.

Yall are just too touchy. Ok.

Re: What exactly is a cam studio? and what is adultwork?
I just wanted to wish you the best of luck!
You'll find yourself addicted to this site in no time cause of the plethora of information these girls have to share. I studied this place for months before just taking the plunge and all the info i gathered made my time much easier (now i'm 2 months old in the MFC world). Plus if i have a bad day, i know i can "vent" and these girls will all know how i feel. Its a great community. So welcome!
Don't let the bad apple ruin the bunch. Ask any question, even if it might have been asked 100 times or so called "lacks common sense". The girls that are genuine and supportive will always answer them. Everyone has to start somewhere!

Re: What exactly is a cam studio? and what is adultwork?
Shhhhh. Just... shhhhhhhh. This forum just went through a HUGE drama upheaval a couple of months ago where all it was was bickering, snarling, bitching and face scratching. I think I speak for quite a few of us in the OW section when I say, we are SO over it. So, now we are trying to keep some law in this lawless land *wink*. SO, please try to keep the needlessly snarky comments to a minimum, especially when new girls are just trying to reach out for help. That's what this forum is all about. Helping one another, not blatant oneupmanship. Or getting a quick jab in.
So let's keep it friendly in here ladies! Got it? Now get back to making money!

Re: What exactly is a cam studio? and what is adultwork?
*rolls eyes* Enjoy your day Ladies.
OP: Good luck! :)

EXACTLY! The supportive and genuine people on here don't mind the same questions over and over again. Everyone was new at one time and i give the same generosity of the little knowledge i have as those have done for me.

Re: What exactly is a cam studio? and what is adultwork?
Ok, lemme weigh in from the perspective of a Promotions person. Why? Because we despise "studios" even more than you do.
So, in the olden days there were lots and lots of camgirls from Eastern Bloc countries like Romania (not like today where they are all from the good ol' Us of A! <hee hee>) and almost all of those women could not afford a computer and internet connections in your home were like owning a Jet airplane is to us. Also, in many of those places, webcamming is technically illegal as well. Soooo, long story even longer, the enterprising semi-criminal all corrupt guy who knew who to pay off and had some starting capital, would open a "Studio", which was a building filled with cubicles (that look like mini bedrooms, although obviously NOT) equipped with computers, cams, dildos, etc. He would then pay off the cops, mayor, street-cleaner and whoever else needed to be paid, and set up shop, the girls would be protected from the law, given a place to cam, and generally have a job they otherwise could never do.
The price for this altruistic service? Usually about 70% of what the Cam place (often Streamate, which as you know, pays crap percentage wise) pays. So the girl would end up making about 15-30 cents a minute for privates. Which was still "good money" in many of these countries.
Flash forward to the good ol' USA. No real need for studios like that here, since it's legal and no need to bribe folks. So, in general, there are some smaller set-ups where they actually provide you a place to cam and a computer and stuff, but generally, HERE, studio is a COMPLETELY meaningless term. THAT is why you are confused by it, since there is no relation to an ACTUAL studio. As I said, there are a FEW actual studios (with buildings with cams and stuff for you to use), and I bet they hate "studios" even more than promoters do.
So, what is a "Studio"? It's a scam that is borne of the way webcam sites work. Since they ALL have tons of slave..er...women from Asia and Romania and the other slave-labor, human trafficking nations they have STUDIOS, the old fashioned corrupt evil bribing kind, and so they ALL have a place for those studios to sign up. Once one signs up as one, one adds "models" and then gets pay for those models, and can pass the pay on, minus a cut, to the model. So THAT is what a "studio" is, and why it's called a studio (because it's what they sign up as to rip you off).
So, why do real promoters HATE studios? Because we do everything they don't, and they take credit for doing what we do, but the DON'T actually do it. Imagine if there were allowed to be people who called themselves "Accountant" and they then just took 25% of your money, and did NOTHING else. How would real accountants feel about them? Especially because within a few years, no-one would trust anything called accountant, or anyone who even did financial services for a percentage or anything else.
"Studios" are the enemy. The enemy of hard working women, the enemy of having truly good promoters in this business to help you really really maximize your exposure. The enemy of good business. Tell every webcam girl you know, and stamp them out.
And anyone who says they will promote you should be able to guarantee you that within 60 days you'll be on all the social networking sites with tons and tons of followers, on websites all over the place, have a website of your own with good traffic, a blog, and that any webcamming you've ever done, they will MINIMUM, DOUBLE your money. They should know the indy sites, what the main sites pay, and should be able to tell you how to get traffic. And they should never make as much as YOU do. (E-mail me and I'll discuss what you should pay a promoter in my opinion).
So...lastly, the WORST lie is that a studio will promote you. Because they are either promoters, or liars in my experience.

Re: What exactly is a cam studio? and what is adultwork?
People have completely explained studios here.
But as for AW: that website is currently making my head explode.
I've been camming successfully for years, and have done well, made good money and had no problems wherever I've been. I can barely get through their version of the verification process right now :( My recommendation would be to start on another site for your first site. Somewhere a little easier to master.

Word UP Bambalina, way to lay it all out there Lady, cheers!
