I know you've seen me do that. I have some peep toe pups with stiletto heels & ankle straps that are very '40s style... I totally wear those on stage. It just depends on the outfit. Last month I was wearing some black sequined stiletto pumps because my new lucite heels refused to break in even with the hair dryer trick, so I would switch in & out of shoes so my feet didn't go numb.
I think you met the gal I was referring to when we were up in SD. She came into the club with her friend as customers, they were hooking. Her friend tried getting up on stage to dance & the manager immediately freaked about them being in the club & made the friend exit the stage. She was the crazy gal I met in WI. Very pushy woman, large tummy that she tried hiding with:
- A semi-thick silver beaded stretch belt
- A red crochet shawl, but doubled over so that she could wear it around her hips. It barely fit so the knot was a bit awkward.
- A plain black bra
- Red cowboy boots
- Red straw cowboy hat
Some girls could pull this off, but her look was not coming together... which really was a shame. She was far past her prime & really "out there". I'm pretty sure she must have been on crack. I'm sure if she'd acted & performed in a way more becoming of an entertainer, I probably wouldn't have felt so awkward being around her. As it was, I was she was following me around a lot, asking for tons of help, & sort of "twitchy". I just kept waiting for her to totally spaz out from whatever she was on.
I totally agree. She was pulling of a sporty soccer girl look with the cropped tank top, booty shorts, knee high socks, & sneakers. Its not something I could do... but she looked adorable!
Looking really stiff on stage-like, most older strippers "flow" or are more "liquid" in how they move-it all goes together nicely. But new strippers are jerkier, and aren't flexible enough to make the moves look good or easy. One new girl at my home club couldn't make her legs go straight in a V while lying on her back, so her knees were bent at an odd angle. Or dance like they are at a night club, not a strip club. Another girl, I was just embarrassed for. She was soooo bad...I could barely watch her without wincing.
This is how I normally tell new girls. Or they may just stand around looking lost, ask for help on hustling guys, or look confused when you use strip club language.

lmfao are you talking about my FB? lmfao yea, that white corset came from Frederick's for like $60! haha....but I made it work. lmfao
unfortunately, I turned in my bunny ears after I was a playboy bunny for Halloween when I was 15. *sad face*
There is one girl at my club who wears a blue bikini and mukmuks (like uggs) every shift. She's a veteran dancer - its just insane!!! Funnily enough - she does pretty well, but I hate how it sometimes brings down the tone of the club...
As for newbs -
Standing at the back looking scared
Approaching ONLY the younger/more attractive/more hipster-y crowd
Clearly staring at the stage shows with their mouth open in AWE
Not picking up tips from the stage as soon as its put down, but leaving them around
Introducing themselves with the wrong name, stumbling over the name, or correcting themselves on their name
One newb at my club was on stage, and hadn't picked up her tips. The stage exit connects to the stairs to the dressing room at the same point as the door from the floor. I was coming off the floor to have a quick smoke, as she was coming off stage. She looks at me, and says "hey - I left some tips on stage, would you go get them for me?" W. T. F. Do I look like your mommy or your assistant? Sure I'll go pick them up. And keep them. For me. I was so shocked at her rudeness and arrogance that I couldn't speak for a good couple minutes!! NEVER do this...
non-stripper shoes...they just look ridiculous! and "normal" thongs. makeup not done right. awkward stage performance, hasty pole moves with no control, moving too fast. i can't find it, but the beginning of showgirls when nomi is dancing on stage.
I'm pretty confused about the shoes issue. I think at all the clubs in OK you have to wear at least 3" heels. They don't have to be "stripper shoes" but most of them wear them. I really can't imagine wearing uggs on stage (mostly cuz I hate the style lol). During one competition at my club, this girl (a veteran, as she'll have you know within minutes of meeting her...*sigh*) wore keds on stage. It didn't really work.
As for the newbs issue...when I was a brand new newb, I was so stiff and jerky. There are some girls at the club who dance waaaaaay too fast and refuse to touch the pole at all. Others are just really insecure about their moves. And one of them does a basic ballet routine, but she absolutely refuses to touch the customers, which makes her pretty unpopular with them.
I'm not saying I don't display any newb tendencies (I've only been dancing for about 6 months) but I like to think I got the most horrendous ones out of the way.
As for the money thing...I know that as a stripper we can make a shit ton of money. But seriously, I am happy if I make over $100. I don't need a shit ton of money. If I can make enough money to cover rent, groceries, and school, I'm happy. I don't think it makes me a newb to be excited about making that amount, just easy to please. :)
Ditto with the general awkwardness.
Wearing outfits that just AREN'T flattering.
Ditto on the shoes...though there was a girl at my last club who had been dancing for months, and would only wear FLIP-FLOPS...seriously, flip-flops. I still can't believe they let her.
Generally newbs think we are all going to hang out that night after work or something. Like the overeager new girl saying "wow that was really fun wow we made lots of money wow where are we going now"
I've seen a lot of new girls get completely shitfaced the first few nights. Sometimes its due to nervousness, but more often than not it seems like they just haven't learned to pace themselves yet.
Hoping for a customer to buy them a drink. Ive seen a few newbies that the first few hours they are working they are longing for someone to buy them a drink. Not tabledances/VIP's, just a drink. Its their goal for the evening. And they havent enough money yet to buy one themselves, so they are on the hunt to get a drink

the bunny in headlights look for the first (few) shift(s)
Getting upset when a douchey customer says something mean to them and theyre not used to it.
getting naked too soon during a dance
When your head starts pounding -_- usually it's caused by their incessant jabbering. I wish some of them would retain the frozen deer in the headlights look and be too petrified to speak.
At 3am completely smashed and locked in a wobbly standing hug with a customer, who's bought her drinks for the past 2 hours bt no dances, and is now too drunk to buy any, yet she's convinced her time has been an investment and he's about to max out his plastic on her.
well all you girls were newbies too correct? Is that how you guys know how to "spot a newbie" because those are what you guys did when u all first started out!
^ Sometimes. Though I bought a pair of real stripper shoes before my second shift, once I found out where to get them from another dancer (there's only one store anywhere near me that sells stripper shoes). There's just a learning curve. You've got to learn to be comfortable in your own skin while walking around in six inch heels and talking to, and being rejected by, men. You've got to learn to chill out and relax while on stage. You've got to learn to breathe and slow down during private dances. You've got to figure out which looks work for you, and which ones don't. You've got to learn to identify and separate the real customers from the time wasters. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, starts their first ever shift dancing as a total pro. Though, if you read the stuff on this site and take it to heart, you'll definitely be ahead of the curve as far as newbies go.
Yep, we all had to start everywhere. Everyone eventually gets the hang of it but yes, having been there makes it much easier to spot someone who is new=P
I *have* to add--Ballet flats are so fun to dance in--customers really love them too=p
