about being self employed
People dont know what i do for a job, i just say im self emplyed an do abit of home work on my computer, try an make it sound boring, and a bit of modelling on the side.
But coz they know im self employed, they automatically assume i can take a day off here an there wen ever, drop my work to go out, or do a favour.
I find this irritating. Just because im self employed, does not mean i can drop my work to go out with you. Worst thing about self employed is, i cant call in sick, to drop a day, and still get paid, i cant get paid holidays off, if i dont work, im not getting paid, so what makes ppl think i can just not work wen ever they want me for anything? so annoying.
I wouldnt call them up and say "oh tell ur boss ur havin a couple hours off coz i wanna go shopping" or whatever. Ide get told "i cant do that ill get fired". yeah, i cant drop 2-4 hours out my schedule, im tryin to earn doh! lol
just a lil vent coz its happened to me yet again, grrrrrr.

Re: about being self employed
*hugs*
People tell me:
"since you aren't doing anything" ....
" since you can work whenever you want"...
Maybe we should say :
" Ok, you want to go to the mall? well that will be 2.99 per minute ".

Re: about being self employed
I have had this problem for a while now. It got to the point that I had to stop answering my phone. My bf's mom in particular has a lot of time on her hands, and use to always want me to take off work to go do something. I finally had to put my foot down and tell people I am working. I can't take off and go out with you, and not work.
People think just because you are home, you have all the time in the world. Not just with adult work either. I also do non adult work from home that pays me a regular bi weekly check, and so that is the job people know of. They could care less if I am working. They call, show up unannounced.
My bf comes home and thinks I should stop working and whines like a baby if I don't. It's really annoying. I now transformed my spare room into an office. I have a futon, desk, desk top, flat screen tv stand and cable in there now, and a lock on the door.

Re: about being self employed
OMG, I deal with the same thing, and it's annoying. I think family and friends think that just because you're your own boss, they can just feel free to interrupt whenever they want, and that's not cool. They're not helping me with my bills.....
My sis is always knocking on my door asking "Hey, T, can I borrow your radio?" or trying to have conversations with me when I've got my door shut/locked. Sometimes she'll just text me what she wants to say/ask instead, which is cool. :)
Whenever I'm logged into cam sites during the day, I make sure I'm half-dressed (bra/panty/pants)...that way if the UPS man is at the door, I can just throw on a top and run downstairs.

Re: about being self employed
My favorite is when my parents, and my fiance's parents ask, "So are you gonna get a job? When is [fiance] gonna get a job? Is he sending out resumes? Are you gonna go back to school?"
As if we're doing nothing? I guess working from home means we're lazy bums that never ever work and our life is going nowhere unless we get a "normal" job and/or go back to college to major in... something.

This, a million times this.
In the morning: "Six hours today? Sounds good! I believe in you baby! I know you'll really kill it today. Work hard!"
After I've been on webcam for approximately two hours: "When are you coming out? I miss you. Are you gonna take a break? Maybe you can take the night off early..."

Re: about being self employed
I found it a bit rude when my "uppity" aunt (who I rarely see) asked me "Do you think you'll ever go back to college?" and when I said "Probably not," she was like "Oh no...don't EVER say that!!!" *rolls eyes*
Later when telling my mom about that conversation, my mom was like "Oh please...is she gonna pay your college tuition for you?" :P
Some people are real quick to tell you what to do with your life, yet none of them are offering to help with babysitting or money, etc., so they need to just zip it. :)

Haha... he also sees me putting on make-up & my skimpy clothes, then gets a hardon and pesters me for sex five minutes before I'm gonna get on webcam. Um, okay, so you're gonna smear my make-up, mess up my hair and leave my vag red and sore right before I start work? Yeah, I don't think so. Then he proceeds to whine.
Sometimes he wants sex immediately after I come OUT of webcam. Ooo yeah, the first thing I want to do after shoving a dildo in myself for the past six hours is have EVEN MORE SEX! ::)

Re: about being self employed
I have stopped letting anyone know that I don't have set hours. They really don't need to know that I don't. Besides. there ARE times when it's busy and I need to work, and other times when it's slow and I need to be sleeping. It's not all that flexible sometimes.
My standard answer when I don't want to take time off to do something is sorry, but I'm scheduled to work. Tell them you are working for a new place and you have to stick with a set schedule.
People will use you if you let them. Just don't.

OMG This sounds exactly like my man. I mean, I understand he's a man & he needs some lovin too, but for fuck's sake atleast let my cooch take a break!
Don't get me wrong, we have a fantastic sex life, but right after logging off from camming sex is the last thing I want to do.
I have one close friend who knows what I do & she will call and say she's on her way over. I'll tell her "sorry hun, I'm working right now" and she'll say "oh that's ok, I won't get in your way" Ummm, then why are you comming over? It's not like I'm going to be able to hang out & talk to you while I'm on cam> ::)

Re: about being self employed
Damn, I lie through my teeth about what I do for a living. Can I just ask you ladies what you tell people you do? Maybe I should start a new thread about this but whatever I tell people I do for a living always makes me feel like I sound really phony. Are there legitimate money-making jobs that you can do from home, and if so, what are they? Maybe I can start saying that's what I do...

Re: about being self employed
^^ You can say you are a freelance web writer & you get jobs from sites like Elance and Guru. That is a real work-from-home job that I used to do for a good year or so before starting webcam and I still write articles from time to time for some of my old clients.

Omg, my boyfriend does this too, and it's so annoying. We have plenty of sex the rest of the time, right after I'm done working is NOT when i want to do it. I am completely not turned on after being on cam.

Re: about being self employed
Ugh! My hubby does that too. I told him I wanted to get on earlier than I usually do tonight (meaning he would alone with the kids for an hour and have to put them to bed.) After 30 min he tells me I need to check our daughters homework. Which turned into an hour.
He loves to use my toys on me which usually isn't a problem except he wants it right after I'm done camming. That is the last thing I want. Plus it's 3AM and my alarm will be going off in 3 and a half hours so I don't think so.
A few friends know what I do but my family doesn't. They think I work for a company called ChaCha online.

Re: about being self employed
I find it helps to tell people that since I'm self-employed, if I'm not around to do the work, it doesn't get done, which means I don't get paid. Most more or less get it then, but if they need further explanation, I just say "look, being self-employed doesn't mean you don't have to WORK! It actually means you work MORE." And they usually back off. haha
Or you can always use the easy stand-by, "I have a deadline."

Re: about being self employed
For you girls with bfs who want sex before and after you cam- why not just incorporate them into your show? I'd think girl/guy shows would pay better than solo shows? or am i wrong? thats what i would do.

My husband wont do it. I've tried.

Re: about being self employed
sex with your BF or husband is not just sex, so i can see why some would not want to do it on cam, on cam its a show, u gotta get the right angles, make sure the viewer can see, and do the positions etc that your viewer who's paying wants. Its not gonna be like real sex where u can get lost in the moment with the one you share your life with.
However, if your bf/husband is into this, try it :)

Re: about being self employed
I would love to do b/g shows with my fiance. I think we'd really BANK it. Unfortunately he's not cool with it though. I guess I can see where he's coming from. He wants to keep our sex life private and special -- not turn it into a show for a bunch of horny pervs to wank over.
DominoDiva is right... I don't think we could really let loose and "get lost in the moment" while we're on webcam, as there are so many things be distracted with.

Yeah, we're trying to get a couples account set up on AW, but they won't approve our documents for some reason. When I signed up, i got approved the next day, so I don't know what's wrong. And I don't really want to do couples cam on Stream. So until our account gets set up, he's outta luck :P

Re: about being self employed
Thanks Smurfette, I'll look into that!
And I think having sex on cam can be fun if you don't take it too seriously and make it about enjoying yourself more than trying to please the customers. You could also have him not show his face if he's not comfortable with it. When I've done it, I didn't really think of it as putting on a show...just really enjoying myself while other people watched.

Re: about being self employed
i haven't started camming yet but have been doing bodyrubs and in the beginning came up with this all to elaborate job to tell my mom-she ask so many questions and wants so many detailsi had to come up with something-i keep trying to figure out a way to quit or get fired and come up with a much easier story. whenever people ask and im with my boyfriend he just silently smirks as i say "promotional modeling" or oh just in school still figuring it out.
I am signed up with streammate but haven't started yet. im sorta nervous :/
