What's easier on your body... pole work or floor work?
Just curious! What do you think is easier on your body... pole work or floor work? My club doesn't have a pole but I always get really bad bruises on my knees & shins from the stage, and they hurt like hell. I've never used a pole, so I have no idea how it would be different.
Thoughts? :)

I'd have to say floor work for me. Although I've come back to work after having to take 3 weeks off and my bodies tolerance has dropped. Knees are sensitive and bruised again from kneeling and my inner thighs from using the pole.
This usually goes away after a few weeks though. Pain in the ass to deal though...:-\
Also, the clubs I work at allow us to use a little rug when we dance for floor work. I know other clubs don't always permit them, but if the club you dance at is floor work only, this should be considered.;)

That's a toughie. Pole work takes a lot of strength and can be rough on your arms, legs, and back. Floorwork is just brutal on the knees though!

Floorwork - like Natasha said, my club allows little blankets or towels for floorwork...anything from leopard print and black towels to a dr suess or sponge bob!! It really takes the stress off your knees, and stops splintering and bruising...(plus you can slide across the floor rather than drag...soooo much easier!)
Polework - easier on your knees, but I always had giant inner thigh bruises, as well as my inner forearms, and it takes so much more strength...one club had a spinning pole and I LOVED it - made life so much easier!
Either way, if you are worried about bruising, start taking an arnica supplement - I bruise like a peach and it really helped! (that and fake tan..and fishnets for the really bad ones!)

maybe I should start taking that...Im really fair so I bruise easily.
I think floor work is toughest on me.

Ooh I didn't know they made arnica supplements... Gotta get me some of that!!
Now I'm kind of glad we don't have a pole at my club... that sounds pretty rough. I was thinking about switching to a club with a pole so I could avoid floor work, but it looks like you can't win either way. : \
Towels and rugs, holy crap that's a great idea... I've never seen those at my club, but we all have bruised legs so I think it would be a popular suggestion. :)

Arnica definitely works, I would love it if I could find some that weren't wal-mart style watered down versions of the real thing.
I took arnica when I got my implants, for a week before surgery and then a week after and had no bruising. I had forgotten about that...I bought the pharmaceutical grade from my docs office though, it wasn't cheap. It was 10 bucks for a one week supply. The way my knees are looking right now though I could certainly use it. I'll be wearing fishnets tomorrow to cover the bruises!!

Floorwork always just WRECKS my knees. Pole I got used to, and I would only get any bruising or aching when I started doing a difficult new trick, but floor bothers me no matter what.
