Chicago Blizzard
So I was looking at these photos of the cars that were abandoned on Lake Shore Drive overnight due to the blizzard. Its crazy. Then I noticed that there is a pick up truck FULL of snow inside...because the door was left open when the driver abandoned. So I say to myself, WHO DOES THAT? Who leaves their vehicle with the door wide open?
Then I go on a few more photos, and I see the bus. Full of snow. Door wide open. WTF?
Soooo am i missing something? Are you SUPPOSED to leave the door open when you abandon your vehicle?? LOL I just don't get it.
Looks like those movies where you see abandoned and wrecked and burnt cars across the highway...

Re: Chicago Blizzard
It totally does look like a movie.... I guess when you have 70 mph winds and snow you not exactly thinking straight..... There are still cars stuck out there.... And the ones that have been towed are hard to find.
I live in the suburbs and the blowing snow was crazy. Nobody I have talked to can remember a storm like this. NWS was also talking about 25 ft waves crashing onto LSD, which if you were stuck in your car, wouldn't you want to get out too, as fast as possible.
I guess the good news is that those that left their cars made it to a hospital that took good care of them....
The cars are another story. I guess when the city towes your car to lot, it is almost impossible to find....
Took me until 1 PM until I made it out of my complex.... Could be worse I guess.....

Re: Chicago Blizzard
Ashamed to report that there's one lady in my FB network--not a friend--who was one of those morons that tried to drive on Lake Shore Drive last night, got stranded and had to be rescued. The silly bitch is now bragging about it on FB. Note: Drivers were warned not to attempt this daffy stunt, which put them, their vehicles and police/fire resources at risk.

Re: Chicago Blizzard
The reason drivers were being warned to avoid LSD was because they were concerned about large waves crashing onto it. Those waves never developed, if they had then LSD would have been shut down much earlier. The traffic jam was caused by several accidents on an icy patch. Those accidents could have happened on any of the other through streets or highways just as easily as what happened on LSD. The problem was the city totally screwed up in removing the cars after the accident. By the time they cleaned up the accident the cars on LSD were snowed in and couldn't move. The situation turned into a big panic fest with literally hundreds of cops and fireman getting the people out of there. In the panic some people just didn't make sure their doors were fully closed.

Re: Chicago Blizzard
Makes sense that the accident would stop traffic so long that snow could build up enough to trap vehicles. I was wondering about that.
And I thought the water would have been frozen....so Im curious as to how those huge waves were expected. Shows what I know.
I still woulda at least closed the door!

Last weekend it was 71 here in Dallas. We got an ice storm on Monday night, was 12 Tuesday morning and the roads were so bad everything's been shut down until Friday. Saturday I went for a light walk, had to wear shorts it was so damn hot, now I could go ice skating in my front yard...... Texas *sigh*

Re: Chicago Blizzard
It's completely creepy here. I live off a major street (Route 50 aka Cicero Avenue) and there is no traffic at all.

Re: Chicago Blizzard
Kelly...be careful posting that info ^ babe. But that is pretty creepy for it to be silent all of a sudden.
Florida is crazy too. It was 70 two days ago. I wore a tank top and heels all day. Which happened to be bright yellow cuz the sun put me in that kinda mood. Then yesterday was about 40 and today was like 35. It doesnt make any sense at all. Mother Nature is really goin thru something!

Re: Chicago Blizzard
It's a major street that goes pretty far so not worried. I think it goes to Florida. But yes it's like a ghost town. Nothing is running.

Re: Chicago Blizzard
Snow is gone. Now for the fun windchills: -7 today. I have to dig my car out. Ugh.

Re: Chicago Blizzard
Sincere good wishes for all those who are digging their cars out of all this snow; I'm sure that it's no fun at all.
(I'm one of the very lucky ones here in Chicago. I don't have a car and I live close to an el station; the trains have been running just fine.)
And the point of my post? Zillions of thanks to all the hardworking folks who cleared the streets and their own sidewalks! May you and all those whom you love be blessed forevermore!!! :)
