apartments, renting, job status, and proving your income
I'm looking at getting an apartment soon, and I'm going through the process of applications. I have an appointment on Monday in which they want me to prove my income, so I am bringing in bank statements and tax forms. However, they also want to know what I do for a living, even though they know I do "contract work" (I have legit 1099s from other contract jobs but I don't want to claim I'm still a body piercer). So now I'm wondering what I say I do for a living. I don't want to lie, but I also don't want to get turned down for housing because of my job.
What do you ladies do when in these types of situations?
Re: apartments, renting, job status, and proving your income
You can say; professional dancer (erm), preformer, entertainer. You can always lie, I dont see the harm as long as you can pay your rent it shouldnt be a problem.
Im not sure how it is in the US, but here (depending) on the management its easier or harder to get away with things. I told my landlord what I did (stripping), but she told me, when you hand me all the papers, write down waitress for the owner to approve you. I just needed a job letter stating how much I made, and a credit check. On papers I do write that I am a waitress for X. I dont see the harm in writing down another job, if you arent comfortable with putting down a dancer, then write a more "regular" job.

Awesome. I used to be a house cleaner, so I'm going to say that. I've done it with and without an agency too.
Thanks everyone! Wish me luck on my apartment search!
