Affordable lighting for webcam
I just got signed on with CWH and I never done webcam shows before and I look pretty wash out on it( I am used to pictures and professional video camera) does anyone use lights for their cam shows to improve quality if so any suggestions on which ones to use? I appreciate any advice.
Re: Affordable lighting for webcam
i keep meaning to order this:
http://www.amazon.com/PHOTOGRAPHY-CO...d=JZPVHGQA3E8U
but i have a floor lamp with three lights on it from target that works fine.
Re: Affordable lighting for webcam
I use lamps from canadian tire similiar to walmart. I use the 60 watt energy saving bulb that produces white light and equivalent to 100 watts
Re: Affordable lighting for webcam
Since I usually cam in the daytime, I use a combination of natural sun light and some floor lamps I have in my house. It sucks when its cloudy though because just using my lamps makes me look yellowish. I need to buy some different bulbs.
Re: Affordable lighting for webcam
pink lightbulbs - amazing :)
Re: Affordable lighting for webcam
I've heard of this pink lightbulb thing for a while now, but everytime I try to find some, I Google pink lightbulb and so many different hues and shades of pink come up I can never work out what sort of shade would be best. What sort of pink is best? A pastel or a much stronger magenta type colour? Sorry for the questions but I've heard about this so much and I'd love to try it!

I have these in my overhead ceiling fan, 2 of them... then 1 of those halogen floor lamps... I got mine at target for like 6 bucks because it was on clearance, it even has a little armed spotlight off the side, then a small touch 3 way style light from five below... my lighting all together probably costed me 25, and is great. I got my bulbs at home depot or lowes... either should have them. I knew about them because my mom got them for me when i was younger... and everything i owned had to be pink lol!! they are awesome though, really complimenting to skin tone, and camouflaging stretch marks, cellulite and whatnot.
http://www.target.com/Room-Essential...i_detailbutton this is my lamp... take aside one day to play around with your lighting... that way you know what works. maybe even mark the spot on the floor or desk that you want the light at with a piece of masking tape or something, so you always get it just right.
Re: Affordable lighting for webcam
I second the pink lighting, it's amazing! I got mine on amazon for very very cheap.

Re: Affordable lighting for webcam
:) the least i can do! I love this forum so much :) just one last little tid bit... I used the logi pro 9000 this cam is VERY dependent on lighting. I always take the right light feature off, and then the exposure defaults and all that. I play with my contrast, color and brightness levels as well... these things combined will make you look amazing on cam.

^^^^ This.
I used to buy pink bulbs, the blueish 'daylight' bulbs, and everything in between. But the BEST thing I ever did for my lighting was.....
.... to replace my old webcam with the logitech pro 9000. It is THE BEST CAM for working in sub-optimal lighting conditions, BAR NONE. You MUST figure out how to play with the cam settings though. This is key! Turn off auto-focus, turn off right-light, and play with gain, exposure, saturation, until you get it right. It sounds more complicated than it is... these days it takes me literally 10 seconds to fix my cam settings before I log on. Sometimes I even make myself a tiny bit more 'yellow' than i actually am, and VOILA, instant tan! Ha ha!
If you are looking to get a new cam, RUN DO NOT WALK to the logitech pro 9000. Even if you are NOT looking to replace your cam... you probably should. ;-) I thought my old one was just fine, and then I tried the 9000 and was blown away. No-brainer.
Screw the lightbulbs, girls, you're wasting your time. Just get the good cam already.

Re: Affordable lighting for webcam
I'm also having a huge problem with lighting. My problem is that, when I put my floor lamp behind my comp/camera, then I move my face close the camera, it makes my face look like... well... you know when you hold a flashlight under your chin? except worse! I also have a clippy desk lamp, but the same problem occurs. I'm going to try the pink light bulbs, but will they solve that problem for me? I can't use my ceiling fan lights cause I'm taking them down. My foot, the pole, and the ceiling fan don't get along when in the same room. I have reveal light bulbs and I have the energy coily ones. Would it be better to use a bunch of low watt bulbs or a few high watt ones? It's either too dark or I get shiny flashlight face. I can't use natural light cause I live in a complex and my windows face the road/ everyone.
Re: Affordable lighting for webcam
I got this lamp from WalMart -> http://www.walmart.com/ip/your-zone-...multi/13274566 and use it behind the camera with the white light covers and Natural Lighting bulbs. It has 3 settings, one of which uses 2 lights, another uses the other three, and the last one uses them all. I love it because the way the switch is set up means you get at least 2 different lighting profiles :3
Re: Affordable lighting for webcam
this is what i use. i have a few of them.. i think 3.. i clip them on the edge on my desk and becuase of the versatile wire u can move the direction of the light wherever u want it...

exactly what I use. Mine burn bright like 100 watts, but are actually 60 watts. I bought a pack of 6 of these energy bulbs for like $10.
