Maybe I am alone but this whole fixation with breast milk makes me sick. Between the breastfeeding nazis who attack formula feeding parents to this idea from PETA where breast milk ahould be added to ice cream (an idea declined by Ben and Jerry), to now this idea where one can buy breast milk online it's just bizarro. Breast milk should only be used for the baby its intended for or not at all (in the case of formula babies). It's not for anyone else and I wouldn't buy breast milk ice cream.

No. You're not alone. I felt physically sick when I saw the above item on our national news the other day.
Breast milk is a precious nectar reserved for one thing...and one thing only. Feeding your own baby.
As an aside, I was watching a Natural History documentary the other day - about a tribe in India - the 'Bishnoi'.....who rescue abandoned fawns....deer and goat fawns. Apparently they regard these young animals as sacred.
Anyway....the women of the village...like...human women.....consider it a massive honour and religious priviledge - to personally BREAST FEED the abandoned fawns - until they are old enough to be weened off human milk and onto solid foods.
Re: 'Lady Gaga' Threatens Action - Over 'Baby Gaga' Ice Cream
As far as the lawsuit, that's ridiculous to me that she is threatening a law suit over that.
I'm a volunteer Lactation Consultant at the La Leche League, but I'm no boob nazi, and I find the idea of using breastmilk in icecream interesting but probably not the best for human consumption. If you want to make icecream from your own breastmilk, go ahead, that's great! But seeing as illnesses, medication, nicotine, alcohol, and diseases can be passed through breastmilk, I don't think its a wise choice to do. The amount of milk it would take to make that icecream should be donated to mothers seeking breastmilk donors for those who cannot breastfeed.
The PETA thing was a stunt to spread the concept of not drinking cow's milk because cow's milk is meant for calves and not human consumption, but it came off as ridiculous and more people tweaked out about the idea of breastmilk than seeing their message.

I don't think the lawsuit is ridiculous... it doesn't mention it in that article... but the company also had their servers dressed similarly to Lady Gaga as well.
So it's pretty clear they were trying to make money using her image and are now trying to get out of it with a cheap excuse.

That is bizarre and reminds me of this story where a woman breastfed a monkey. That is weird to no end and I think she was a scientist of some sort. It's terrible these animals lost their mothers but human women breastfeeding would be like a human giving their newborn baby cows milk. I've been seeing some strange breastfeeding stories lately like one where women are selling (not donating) their breastmilk. I doubt I would breastfeed anyway, but if I was to and couldn't I would buy formula instead of buying breastmilk from a person I didn't know.

Ah I didn't know that extra bit. Then that makes sense why she would being suing them!

Um...formula is cow's milk unless you buy the soy kind...but I get what you're saying. Did the woman like actually put the baby monkey on her breast? :O If she pumped and did a bottle, it wouldn't be that weird to me because of how similar monkeys and humans are, but actually letting it suck on your breast? There is not enough vodka in the world where I would be okay with that.

I believe (I could be wrong)it's a processed form of powdered milk. There is of course like anything better quality formula and I know if I have a baby I will likely buy the soy stuff (or pump). I am Googling it now and apparently there's many different kinds depending on needs. Since I've never had a baby I've never really investigated this further but it seems like the better brands are better. But yes she put the monkey on her breast which I found rather creepy. Personally I would buy that monkey formula I would not like to nurse a monkey.
Re: 'Lady Gaga' Threatens Action - Over 'Baby Gaga' Ice Cream
I think Lady Gaga is being selfish, honestly.
Also, I don't think the ice cream is that bad as long as it's healthy and she isn't drinking, doing drugs, or anything that could harm the milk.
Re: 'Lady Gaga' Threatens Action - Over 'Baby Gaga' Ice Cream
She is a brand and if she isn't making money off of it and it repulsed her, I don't blame her for suing their asses...no one on here would want their content used in association with something they did not approve and Lady Gaga is on a whole other level!!!!
I LOVE HER!
Re: 'Lady Gaga' Threatens Action - Over 'Baby Gaga' Ice Cream
It's not selfish to protect your brand when it's your career. It's copyright, and if you let things slide, everyone thinks they can take advantage.

I can't imagine ever putting a hairy little monkey to my breast. Ugh just the thought makes me squirm in my seat YUCK! And yeah, there are tons of kinds of formula out there, but I am waaaaaaay to lazy to ever have bothered with formula and bottles. Of course I breastfeed for the awesome benefits but the idea of waking up in the middle of the night, preparing formula, sitting with the baby while she eats, rocking her back to sleep and having to wash the bottles turned me off to the idea so fast :P Kiddo wakes up in the middle of the night hungry? I roll over, pop the boob in her mouth, back to sleep for me. Laziness at its finest! ;D
I know tons of boobnazis out there rip on formula feeding moms, but they get a pat on the back from me for their incredible work ethic. (/thread derailment)

You sound laid back about this, which I like. Way too many people get heated over this topic (there was a thread about this awhile back and it got nasty)and it all boils down to choice.
Yeah the idea of a monkey nursing on me reminds me of a horror movie. However, I will admit that though I am not lactating and though he's weaned my cat tries to nurse on my boob (no kidding). He'll even grab my shirt near the boob. Because I love him (and because it's usually while sleeping)I let him.
Re: 'Lady Gaga' Threatens Action - Over 'Baby Gaga' Ice Cream
Yes she should sue. They do not have the right to make money off of her name and image. I hope she gets it all. They could have called it anything else but that.
Re: 'Lady Gaga' Threatens Action - Over 'Baby Gaga' Ice Cream
The fact that the world’s biggest superstar is now prosecuting the world’s smallest ice cream parlour, is akin to the actions of a big baby, rocking in a corner with some wet wipes crying over spilt milk.
In this case, breast milk.
It is worth noting that this ice cream was on sale for just a few hours before it was banned by Westminster Council, so it’s not as if its been a best seller for a parlour where the paint is barely dry and the doors open just over a week. Nobody seems to have told her it is no longer for sale.
Yet a global superstar has taken umbrage at what she describes as a ‘nausea-inducing’ product. This from a woman with a penchant for wearing rotting cows flesh. At least our customers are still alive when they contribute to our ‘art’.
Perhaps I’ll deliver my response wearing a fillet steak jockstrap, celebrating the fact that it is mothers milk which has weaned humanity for thousands of years and it is the drinking of milk destined for the calves of other mammals which is in fact questionable.
She claims we have ‘ridden the coattails’ of her reputation. As someone who has plagiarised and recycled on an industrial scale, the entire back catalogue of pop-culture to create her look, music and videos, she might want to re-consider this allegation.
How can she possibly claim ownership of the word ‘gaga’ which since the dawn of time has been one of the first discernable phrases to come from a baby’s mouth. This is why we chose the name. She owns no rights in the primal utterances of our children.
The costume used by The Icecreamists in fact referenced Madonna’s Jean-Paul Gaultier designed conical brassiere for the 1990 Blonde Ambition Tour (which it self was inspired by 1950’s cone bra’s). It had no relation to the Lady herself.
We could also argue to the contrary, that it is in fact HER shamelessly riding on the coattails of the publicity generated by The Icecreamists breast milk ice cream.
Worse still she threatens me, my family and my personal assets (ask my ex-wife, she knows where they are), in an example of heavy-handed legal thuggery straight out of an episode of the Soprano’s.
It all sounds and tastes like sour milk to us.
Should we be unable to defrost the pop-demagogue then we will adopt a Churchillian position: we will lick her on the beaches, we will lick her on the streets of Covent Garden and we will lick her in court.
She can bring her legal team, we will bring our ice cream. (And some spoons for sharing).
Ultimately like her, The Icecreamists are a melting pot for pop-culture, satirically referencing and celebrating the freedom of the internet and materials in the public domain.
Why do we do this? Because we are ‘born this way.’
Finally, we note that her latest single sounds uncannily like Madonna’s ‘Express Yourself.’ What a beautiful, poetic irony to end on.

Re: 'Lady Gaga' Threatens Action - Over 'Baby Gaga' Ice Cream
And here is the latest from Matt
On 25th February The Icecreamists were busted on their opening day of business by the establishment.
Westminster Council declared breast milk ice cream as ‘possibly unfit for human consumption.’
13 days later we discovered…
Can breast milk kill you? No.
Can you catch aids from Mr Nippy? No.
Can ice cream really be THIS controversial? You bet.
Can humanity and the children of the world breath a sigh of relief? Yes.
Welcome to what our customers are dubbing ‘Gaga Gate’ and what we are calling Apocalypse Now with ice cream.
Kids, put down that Jack Daniels bottle you were suckling on after being told breast milk was a hazardous material and go back to mummy, because breast is best and it’s back on the menu. We are free to reproduce.
Citizens of Great Britain, pick up your spoons and go back to your dessert bowls because the men in white coats at Westminster have boobed and declared breast milk ice cream SAFE after a week long cold war that saw The Icecreamists do spoon-to-spoon combat with hysterical over-reacting sour-faced bureaucrats and the ‘enemies of enterprise.’
Given that mothers milk has weaned the human race for thousands of years and there is not a recorded incident of anyone dying after suckling on their mothers breast, it’s odd that Westminster Council chose to wade in like Hans Blix UN weapons inspectors looking for weapons of mass destruction.
Having seized two scoops of bio-hazardous breast milk ice cream deemed to be a possible threat to public health, these were then sent off for biological testing in a secret laboratory deep in the English countryside where highly trained scientists poured over every molecule as if they were looking to contain an outbreak of the Ebola virus.
Then the politically and PR motivated folk at Westminster went to the press before they had even written to us notifying us of the situation, thus fuelling the media story and the damaging assertion that our ice cream was a risk to public health. They did this in the full knowledge that our donor had been screened to hospital standards and that our ice cream was probably the safest food in London.
Of course all this comes from a council which less than 10 feet from our front door promotes death by alcoholism, tobacco addiction and any one of a number of other dubious legal substances.
It also brought into question the reputation of our donor; the eloquent and articulate exponent for breast-feeding, Victoria Hiley, whose breasts, appearance and HIV status have been discussed online worldwide for the last two weeks. Victoria’s article for the Guardian here explains her feelings about the situation. It’s been one small lick for man, one giant scoop for motherkind.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/theguardia...ga?INTCMP=SRCH
They thought breast milk ice cream should be busted, but as it turns out in this the mother of all meltdowns, its the authorities that boobed.
As a new business we have been up close and personal with both the authorities and a global superstar, sandwiched in an indecent squeeze that threatened to suffocate The Icecreamists at birth.
Whilst we still have to deal with Miss Germanotta, its probably time for us to say thanks for the mammaries and get back to our mission; liberating the world one lick at a time with lashings of great boutique ice cream, crazy cocktails and some very bad puns.
God Save The Cream!

Fuck Matt O'Conner.
He tried to profit on someone else's brand and image and thought he could get away with it. The little bitch got caught with his hand in the cookie jar and instead of apologizing, he rants and raves about how unfair it all is.
Yes, it's totally unfair that someone who built a name for themselves won't hand it over to him so he can make buckets of money. What a fucking loser. I figured this would just get resolved quietly, out of court, and he'd stop using other people's image to sell his ice cream but after hearing his responses; I hope he loses everything.

Hah yeah I've seen some of those nutty arguments and they simply make me frustrated. It's a deeply personal choice that has so many factors involved it's hard to ridicule one's choice over the other. I do believe all women should make an attempt, but sometimes their are mitigating factors that even an attempt can't be managed (women with histories of sexual assault comes to mind). Mothers need to stop beating each other up over the boob vs bottle debate and support each other.
Aw your cat! That's adorable. I've noticed cats try to nurse and knead their owner's breasts if they were weaned too early or taken from their mother before they were ready. They just want to be nutured :P I'm not a huge fan of cats, but there is something so adorable about a cat doing that

If I remember correctly, Lady Gaga says she pulled her pseudonym from the song "Radio Gaga" by Queen, and you don't see Queen knocking down her door to steal her disco ball bra. Also, why is Madonna all up in her grill over "Born this Way"?
I think the owner of the shop was doing a whole lot of wrong playing off of her image for their ice cream shop and doing what he did, but the idea of Lady Gaga going after some small town place for "using her image" is just beyond comprehension. That would be like the Presley family suing every fat Elvis impersonator in Vegas for using his image.
The whole thing just screams weird to me. Why the hell would you even bother with breastmilk ice cream in the first place? Were there enough people coming in an saying "Hmmm I see soy and almond ice cream...where is the boob juice ice cream? I want me some tittermilk!" that they needed to make it? /:O

Re: 'Lady Gaga' Threatens Action - Over 'Baby Gaga' Ice Cream
It would seem that Matt O'Connor already has something of a reputation as an activist, attention seeker and overall arse - seeing as he's the founder of 'Fathers4Justice' and already has aggrieved an ex-wife and several aggrieved ex-girlfriends, as well as (now) an aggrieved pop 'icon' (sic) - one Ms. S. Germannotta.
Well...watch out. He has just announced that he has plans for another range of ices - this time on sticks - made from 'other kinds of bodily fluids'.....Oh Gaaawd..!!:O
However - the aim of my OP was to point out the complete self-absorbtion and narcissistic behaviour of all these people. As has already been pointed out - 'gaga' is probably the first word uttered by every single human being ever born - and no-one has a copyright or trademark on words or speech!! As for matey boy O'Connor - he has a long track record of self-publicity and general idiotic behaviour...so this ice cream business is just one more example of a deliberate, and clever ploy to keep his name in lights.
Finally....(and most importantly) - 'Kellydancer'....my cats attack and knead my boobs as well..!!;)
Re: 'Lady Gaga' Threatens Action - Over 'Baby Gaga' Ice Cream
Um, that's disgusting! Who the fuck would eat that shit! :O
