Personality traits for stripping success?
What personality traits and skills are most important for being a successful stripper? I think I'm pretty enough, I know men find me attractive, I have boobs that might be if anything too big, and I've been dancing my whole life and have performed on stage, but reading this forum makes me think all of that doesn't really matter. I'm shy unless I'm performing and I'm not very assertive and if I were to be honest, I can be kind of timid. Can I still be successful in this business?
What are the traits that successful strippers all seem to have?
Re: Personality traits for stripping success?
From what I've seen, timidity will not get you far. If you expect every guy to approach you rather than the other way around you'll lose out on a lot of money. I'm not shy, bit I do worry about other people's feelings and I can see that standing in my way. I have no problem approaching a guy, but if he's not paying me I feel a little guilty about walking away. But it's something I've identified as having to get over. I don't think it's personality traits that will make you successful, but rather the understanding that you're trying to make a living here, that you're working hard for the money, and that you deserve to be paid for your efforts. For some people, myself included, it can be difficult to differentiate between self recognition and selfishness. But if you have the drive to succeed and the ability to be clear-headed and confident about the decisions you're making, eventually you should be fine. That's how I see it, anyway.

Being a bitch and knowing I'm hot hasn't slowed me down. Being fucked up, evil, sadistic and bizarre works just fine with me. }:D
Re: Personality traits for stripping success?
You have to be a bit of a free spirit. If you don't enjoy what you do you'll never be very good at it regardless of how pretty you're. :)

Professional.
You have to know it's a business, not a party.
Re: Personality traits for stripping success?
As far as actual personality traits (or the ability to fake them):
outgoing
happy/fun
self-confident
thick skinned
level headed/not just there to party
Those are the types that I see making money pretty much no matter what. There are different styles you can use to portray all of the above -- one of my favorite dancers is gothy and arrogant, but in a way that makes you laugh and love every second of it.
I'm shy too, and I really think dancing is helping me get over it *fast*. It's trial by fire; you won't last long if you don't learn to step up and talk to people. I'd say just try it out if it's appealing to you. If you hate it, no harm done and now you know!
Re: Personality traits for stripping success?
You have to have a thick skin. Guys can be assholes and a rejection streak can hurt (especially if it feels like you're the only one having a bad night).
Its important to be in control of your own mood. Even when you're miserable as fuck on a shitty night you have to plaster on a smile and look like you're having a great time.
Re: Personality traits for stripping success?
You need to be assertive about your boundaries and comfortable saying no to people. You need to be positive and able to stay upbeat and cheery while at work. You need to be responsible and level-headed and treat stripping as you would any other job - just because there's drinking and partying going on, doesn't mean you have to partake. You need to be thick-skinned since you will get customers and dancers who try and bring you down, and also need to be confident and comfortable with yourself. A sense of humour and intelligence (especially in terms of ability to hustle, converse, and relate to people) is invaluable and will get you farther than a pretty face or nice rack will. Stripping isn't all about looks, and you will be surprised by some of the girls who make bank.
