it ALMOST ALMOST happened...
...okay im just venting here and needing some guidance..lol:'(
i told my (who i thought was my good friend) that id be dancing by the end of this mnth and she said it was a bad idea and that id become a druggie and/or a prostitute. and that id be just be worthless to everyone as a dancer and that id be treated like im nothing
I just felt like she was belittling me to make me feel like garbage..which worked..but only bc i thought she was my friend
I have a lot of debt--school loans, medical bills credit card bills, car note, and i KNOW i wont find a job quick enough to pay for them AND pay alot! I currently work at Target making $12 an hr..however im only bringing home $300 bi-weekly!!!! The hours suck in this economy..we re all having to fight for hrs. i dont want to live like this any longer..working for nothing and having to wait for each paycheck!!>:(
She thinks im fuckin dumb or something..im not stupid to degrade myself much more like giving bjs for extra cash or doing meth while taking my clothes off.
Ive been researching this for a yr now..and ive been on these boards for couple weeks..i read what goes down in the clubs..so i feel like if i felt like i couldnt handle it then id nix the whole idea of me dancing
i just cant stand close minded, incompetent people...
that was soo naive of her to say that::)
ughh sorry soo long just had to vent to fellow aspiring/current/former dancers

Re: it ALMOST ALMOST happened...
That is one of the big drawbacks of the job. Some people, not all, but some people who you thought knew you will suddenly act like you are a completely different person. You'd think that they were your friend, and should know better about the kind of person you are, but they hear STRIPPER and the judgmental short circuit begins.
This is when you learn what kind of people your friends really are.

Re: it ALMOST ALMOST happened...
She is dumb. End of story. However those thngs do happen, and if you find that you can't do the job sober, than it's time to stop. That is my warning to everyone cause I stripped sober for nine years and that last year I was drunk all the time. I noticed it cut into my money so it was time to quit, or at least take a break. Also stay focused. Pay those people you owe as soon as you can, and don't waste all your money on outfits to work in. I say get about ten outfits and trade and sell as you get tired of them. You will be suprised how much money one can waste just trying to make money.

lots of people have all of the debts that you just listed and they pay them off with everyday average jobs....debts should not be an excuse or reason to enter the adult industry....

Re: it ALMOST ALMOST happened...
^ I think it's a perfectly good reason. Why else does anyone get into the sex industry if not for the potential to make a lot of cash?
To the other person -I was broke when I started two years ago, and I am still broke because I spend every penny on my school tuition, but guess what - I AM DEBT FREE and about to be done with school. So moral of the story, do what you gotta do, go in with a plan, and remember stripping is a means to an end.
goodluck.

Rly? Are you kidding? Its the reason the vast majority of us started! What ever the reason, it was the best job decision I ever made and I have no regrets.

WHAAT!? haha so tell me hun, whats the reason for u getting into the adult industry?
what. was it for the fun? or for the attention? or for the self-empowerment or for the party life?..im confused by ur statement..what woman would become an exotic dancer, only to go thru tribulations of being treated like crap by other dancers/customers, sacrificing the soles on their feet, hustling every night by giving lap dances to smelly musty men..just for the fun or the attention?..or even the empowerment?..i think money is the real reason any woman would truly become a dancer..its quick money and its ALOT..why not
?

that's kinda like saying "bills are no reason to apply for a job at McDonald's"
as if the masses actually WANT to work at McDonald's. People get jobs for at least one of two reasons: either desire or necessity. Either reason is acceptable.

Re: it ALMOST ALMOST happened...
as far as dancing goes I say do what you need to do in this life to make yourself happy. As far as I know we only live once so decide what's best for you and stand firm by your decision. good luck!

Re: it ALMOST ALMOST happened...
Your friend, imo, is acting like a hugely ignorant BITCH. I'm sorry for the rude language, I don't think I've ever used that word on the boards yet, but it is just how I feel when people react this way. My parents said similar things to me when they found out what kind of job I'd had for 6 months without telling them. It angers me to see it happen to other people because things that make people feel bad about dancing are often not things that happen at work if you are prepared for the kind of things that happen at work, instead it is other people outside of the industry, shoving their noses in and trying to tell you all the things they KNOW about the industry like how you are guarunteed to become a drug-addicted-pregnant-whore and that you are worthless because of a JOB that make people question it, not to mention do all other kinds of pyschological damage to the girls they inflict their ignorance on all because, you know, they watch the "news" and therefore know everything.
Your friend is wrong, it sounds like you have a very good idea of what you are getting into, and you are doing it for the right reasons (to get out of debt and supplement the job you already have). There is nothing wrong with dancing with integrity. Yeah, don't quit your job at Target, even once you start dancing and/or make a lot of cash dancing. If you have another job you can more easily take breaks from dancing when you get burnt out, or if you have a slow week you'll still be ok. Unless you're in school or something, then 2 jobs might be a bit much. Also: limit who you tell, unless you have really liberal friends, it won't be in your favour. And even if you do have liberal friends, the more people you tell the harder the information becomes to contain. If I were you, I'd make sure that "friend" of yours doesn't talk.

Re: it ALMOST ALMOST happened...
same thing happened to me too. its how you find out who your real friends are

Oh my god you are soooo right. The reason we should get into the adult industry is so that we can enjoy being fondled, belittled and judged. Definitely not for the easy cash..

Re: it ALMOST ALMOST happened...
Happened to me. My bff told me she's never talk to me if I even as much as got a waitress job at the SC. Pushed my start date up 2 years. This was way before Stripperweb or even any internet resources. I shouldn't have listened, and neither should you.
Keep your mouth shut and do it. Your friend is not responsible for paying your bills or livelihood. Unless she is willing to pony up the cash to pay off your bills, she can STFU.
BTW, my bff eventually was fine with me stripping after she herself had matured. You'll be fine.
-
Re: it ALMOST ALMOST happened...
^What she said.
Your 'friend' is not paying your bills. Try working at a club a couple nights a week and you'll have another few hundred to play around with every month at bill time. I wouldn't give up that Target job right away though, if you're getting benefits and stuff.
Good luck!

Re: it ALMOST ALMOST happened...
aww thanks guys for the uplifting advice! ^_^ i just told her to keep her mouth shut about my plans and just continue being my friend if she wanted and left it at that..sooo

Re: it ALMOST ALMOST happened...
You make $300 a week making $12/h? You must be part time..I didnt know part time employees at Tarjhey get benefits thats really good I would def hang on to that job even if I dance..
-
Re: it ALMOST ALMOST happened...
^^^ no every 2 weeks..and yes im part time..i only get like 15hrs a week and i get paid $12 an hr
and yeah the benefits come in handy..soo def keeping Target for a min longer haha

Re: it ALMOST ALMOST happened...
Hey luxi_kitty!
Just want to say Good Luck in the start of your dance career! Having worked in Atlanta for my first 4 years of dancing (and being a full-time student) I can tell you it's been a really great decision in my life. Yes, it is tough sometimes (for all the reasons you mentioned ^earlier^) but it offers so many opportunities if you use it the right way, which it sounds like you will. :) Because Atl. is in the Bible Belt (actually, really anywhere I'd give this advice...), I suggest you don't mention it to most people if you're not sure they'll support you. I always found it funny that my money was pretty great most of the time I worked down there despite the fact that so many people were "against" in the real world.... Ha.
As for your frenemy... Don't listen to her. People are scared of what they don't understand and, as others have pointed out, there will be plenty of people who want to give you their two cents. Keep your head down and do you. Personally, I have always been motivated by a challenge/when people think I can't do something so it's kept me in line with this whole dancing world. I keep my goals in mind and remain accountable to myself. The fact that you're on StripperWeb suggests you'll do the same. :)
Again, Good Luck and have fun!

I wouldnt want to be friends with someone who said that she/he would turn their back on me if I started dancing. I would shitcan that person. Hey if they can do it to me easily--which they have then I can do it to them for their ignorance. F them.. Not having alot of friends may suck in my case but I would rather be w very few true friends like I do now than to worry about the people who care solely about their image..So many fake bs people...

Well yeah but the "average person" also makes a good bit more than $150/wk too ::) you can't afford shit on your own at $150/wk...when I lived in a shoddy arm efficiency in the heart of the ghetto 6yrs ago even THAT was $110/wk and $40/wk left over is NOT enough for food, utilities, car (or even a bus pass). DUH
