For one thing, going to school when you don't know exactly what you want to do wastes time and money. Also, the degree that I have is absolutely useless, since being self-employed means I don't need any qualifications to impress anybody to hire me... meaning I basically wasted my college years and money.
For another thing, as Melonie has said over and over, there is not very much value anymore in having a degree, unless it is a very specialized one. In my mind, the benefits of being able to work full time and not pay for school far outweigh the benefits of graduating with a liberal arts degree. The only reason these days I would advise somebody with a decent earning potential without a degree to go to school would be if they were going to get a degree that basically guaranteed them them a job when they graduate... like a math or science degree.
