What's the minimum I need to start camming?
I would like to start camming when I move into my own apartment in July and figured if I had a goal of what I needed/wanted to buy for camming it would motivate me in making money dancing (I always make more when I have a specific amount in mind for a certain goal). I know high-speed internet is a must - literally the only company around here is Comcast. Does anybody else use Comcast and know which package would be best? Right now I'm on my roommate's Business-class which is awesome but you have to have a business name to register for it :( so I won't be able to get that.
I also have a shitty webcam so I know I need a new one. Aside from the cam, the internet, and some outfits, is there anything else I need in the very beginning? I want to be prepared but I'm also one of those people who tends to go overboard in spending money to prepare myself ::) so I'm trying to stick to the basics on this and not blow all my money before I start making any lol
Also, I'm been looking at this site .com - does anyone use that? Is that as good a site for beginners as it advertises?
Re: What's the minimum I need to start camming?
.com is a studio for streamate. you're much better off doing some research here and signing up for a site on your own...that way you don't have to give them a percentage of your pay.
the most often recommended webcam for new models is the logitech 9000. it runs about $50-$70.
you literally don't need anything else, other than a good internet connection (cable is more than sufficient) and decent lighting (if you have good overhead lighting you should be fine, but you can go crazy and buy extra lamps, pink bulbs, etc. if you are so inclined).
really, it's not rocket science.
Re: What's the minimum I need to start camming?
If you can get from comcast a package that is over 3mbps then your fine for camming. from visiting the comcast website you can get a package for $29.99 a month
as long as your webcam is not built-in your computer you will be fine. just make sure you have enough lighting. you can look up webcam lighting online to get ideas of how to set up your lighting. 100 watt bulbs are needed at least 2 lamps.
computer, cam, high speed internet, a panty and bra sets, lighting is what you need to get started.
is a studio for streamate. do not sign up with them.
Re: What's the minimum I need to start camming?
K, lets see.
- Sex toy(s), if you will use them.
- Baby oil and/or lotion, there will always be an ocassional guy who will ask you for it, and you can always use it if it's a long show and you're out of ideas.
- Baby wipes (for removing the oil), but a towel will suffice, too.
- Lube
- Heels nearby (don't buy this just for camming, I'm assuming you already have a pair of sexy heels)
- Pack of smokes if you're gonna offer smoking shows.
These are really not a MUST, only suggestions.
That's all I can remember now and it's not a big investment. Don't go overboard spending money just to start. Start with the basic stuff and, as you make money, upgrade. As far as outfits are concerned, that's a matter of personal taste, but I'm usually wearing a sexy top + stockings, so you don't need to spend money on that at all in the beginning. You can use some sexy stuff from your closet and see how will things work out, or buy a couple of stuff only (you don't need Agent Provocateur for camming)
Good luck!

i have comcast, get the blast option! that is the fastest internet speed option, trust me, you will need it for camming. i pay like $35.00 for internet right now, a deal you pay for a year, which is great. also i have a logitech quickcam pro 9000, alot of models use this and it can cost anywhere from $60.00 to $80.00, depending on what store you go to and what deal you get on it. best buy usually has good deals on them.

Really all you need is decent lighting, a relatively private place to work, reliable internet and a webcam. Ideally you should upgrade as soon as you can but as long as you are visible on it and it's fully functioning you should be fine! You don't even need to spend a lot on outfits in the beginning - if you are a stripper you can use some of your stripper wear, or you can even use your bra and panties! I'm sure you have those, right? ;) I, as well as a lot of other ladies on here encourage new camgirls not to invest TOO much in the beginning until you have tried it out a few times and really know that it's something you want to do - otherwise, it's just an unecessary waste of money.
In terms of Internet Modeling.... NOOOOO DON'T DO IT!! They recruit for Streamate and if you sign up with them they will take a percentage of your earnings as long as you are signed up under them. It's best to just sign up directly with Streamate, which imo is one of the best for newbies because there is already traffic so you don't have to promote yourself to make money there, and it's pretty straightforward :) HTH!

Good list I will add GOOD lighting (daylight bulbs or pink lightbulbs will work. you can even have a shitty webcam but with good lighting you'll always look good)

Just wanted to let you (and everyone else) know that the Logitech 9000 is on sale at Amazon.com AND it has a rebate right now. You can get the webcam for $45 after rebate.

Yeah,I'm on that comcast plan to. I think they encourage you to get basic cable which is 19.95(we don't need all the channels, don't even watch tv) and then to add high speed internet(its only 9.95 here) comes to 29.95. If you need to rent a modem(we do),that brings the total to 34.95 a month, modem is about $5. If you hook all of that up to a desktop and cam on your laptop, you'll need a router. This is what I do(we have 3 desktops & 2 laptops) and it comes in handy. Comcast rents out routers to. I also went with the 9000 and I love it!! For everything else, yeah read the other comments. I never put that much thinking into it when I first started. I just turned on my cam and started making money ;D
Re: What's the minimum I need to start camming?
I'm curious what type of computer works best for camming? Desktop? Laptop? I am am Mac user all around so I'm looking to get a basic PC for camming purposes. Can I get the cheap basic model?
Re: What's the minimum I need to start camming?
Oh I prefer laptop. That way you can move from space to space without being tied down!! A quick and easy way to offer different types of shows.
Re: What's the minimum I need to start camming?
Yeah that is what I was thinking too! Does it have to be a really good one though? Or can I go with a cheap model?

When you first posted this, Amazon was out of the camera :( But it currently is only about $48 and I just ordered it! Thank you so much! I'm excited for it to come! ;D
Re: What's the minimum I need to start camming?
Also, I want to start familiarizing myself with the common fetishes that come up on camming. Unfortunately, there's no website with just a list of "common camming fetishes" lol If I was just able to get some suggestions though, I can look up what they are on my own.
Re: What's the minimum I need to start camming?
There are so many fetishes. I wish I had time to list them all, but I have something I need to do. Foot fetish is a big one. I'm always getting guys in free chat asking me "Can I see your feet/do you have pretty feet?," and I keep telling them to please tip (then they usually just leave...lol). :P
Re: What's the minimum I need to start camming?
So now I'm actually at that point where I'm starting to want to buy shit I don't need before I start actually making money and I need someone to talk me down... lol
I really want to disguise myself on cam and I would like to wear a wig - only problem, wigs are expensive. I've found the exact one I want to order but it's $240 - not something I can really spend money on at the moment. However, I'm really hesitant to try to not show my face on cam at all. I don't want to show it without a disguise but I don't want to not show it... Idk, the idea of sitting in front of a camera without being able to make facial expressions just seems so odd to me. I know a lot of girls do it, I just don't know if I'd be good at it without being terribly awkward.
I know I shouldn't drop this much on a wig right out of the gate though. Should I maybe just try to disguise myself with makeup and then when I have the money for my wig, make new accounts? Or is that still too risky? Should I just practice not using my face?
Re: What's the minimum I need to start camming?
Don't spend a bunch! You can always buy stuff later.
The one important thing is a wig for disguise tho. You really don't need an expensive wig to look good on cam. You can adjust your settings to make an inexpensive wig look good. (invest in some wig powder to take out the unnatural shine). I like the WigWand powder (its inside the wand and the powder lasts forever and ever).
Find ForeverYoung brand wigs and take a look and see what you think. Amazon and a lot of other places carry them. They are usually under $100. I love them, currently own 2 and planning to buy a couple more styles.
