Webcam modeling noob here... Asking for some advice.
Hey everyone!
Well, first of all, I think I do have the gear to do the job...
PC specs:
* Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 OC'd to 3.4GHz
* 4GB of DDR2 RAM
* ATI HD4870 512MB
* Windows 7 Ultimate x64
* Logitech C910 Webcam
* High quality clip-on microphone.
* ADSL2+ internet connection (5Mbit/s down and 620Kbit/s up)
* 2x 19" widescreen HD monitors.
I think I'l upgrade to a fiber optics connection (20Mbps down and 20Mbps up) for HD streaming.
Am I properly covered to be able to do the job? Should I upgrade my internet connection?
Now, the question is... How much can I REALLY make consdiering I don't really have experience and I'm just about to start?
I'm thinking of doing it full time for 6 months to save money (8 hours shifts, 6 days a week). On ImLive they pay around .90 a minute I think? so I think that maybe, even if I don't get many customers, if I work that much I could make at least $1,800USD a month to cover my expenses (I spend half that amount a month but I'd like to save as much as I can).
Could that amount be reachable? Please be honest.
I'll also read all the threads related to webcamming. It seems like there's a lot of useful information.
How stressing is this job? What experiences have you gathered out of it? What tips could you give to me, being a beginner?
And other thing: How much could this work compromise my professional future in the IT industry? I've heard of some people who have dome camming to get through college and didn't really get affected by it when loking for jobs.
That's all, thanks for reading!

I haven't cammed, but I've interviewed a few different cam models so I can say that it varies in terms of income. The common trend for people to do well is to be consistent with hours (so this way you can build up a regular clientele and following).
I'd recommend you check out these interviews (we do skype video interviews)...they are a little long (about an hour each)...but if you have an ipod there's an audio version so you can just download it and listen to it while driving, working out, housework, etc...
Hope that helps...
Re: Webcam modeling noob here... Asking for some advice.
Thanks! watching the first interview atm.
Amber is a really nice girl!
Re: Webcam modeling noob here... Asking for some advice.
I'm watching the 2nd video now, I really can't believe the variety of people that do this and the fact that they can make money out of it no matter how diverse they are.
I would like to hear other camgirls here too, it'd be nice.
So I guess my computer gear will be enough for the job?
Re: Webcam modeling noob here... Asking for some advice.
I wanna bump this to get more input.
Also, when I move out to my new place, I'll post pics to see how I can decorate and improve it for camming lol, ok?

Glad you got some use out of the interviews. I'm sure it's a slower day thanks to it being memorial day here in the states...so I'm sure once people are back on they'll be able to give you more input. Good luck!
Re: Webcam modeling noob here... Asking for some advice.
Thanks (:
One more thing... Should I get a 10Mbits down and 10mbits up connection or a 20/20 connection? there's just a difference of $25 dollars for those packages.
It'll be for HD streaming, remember that, and maybe streaming to multiple sites at once.

Bump time! lol
Nice to see we got our own subforum now!

Your connection SHOULD be fine, but the $25 would give you peace of mind, and make any sort of streaming a non issue. Your PC specs are great, so I wouldn't worry about that. The one thing I did notice about the c910 when I had it is that it tends to be a little heavy on the red, and it lacks a white balance feature software side. The red made me look blotchy when I wasn't. It was enough to get me to switch to a Quickcam Pro 9000. I've had a few girls say the same.
Re: Webcam modeling noob here... Asking for some advice.
So I should get the Quick Cam Pro 9000 instead?
Can it stream at 720p?
Re: Webcam modeling noob here... Asking for some advice.
My advice to you would be to send private messages to women who seem "nice" before you get bitched at for asking newbie questions....(just looking out)

I think you have the gear to do everything just fine.
The OS is killer and I would upgrade the cam to something kickass - check out the threads on what cams to buy with a remote - trust me :) Custys LOVE THAT!
Fiber optics is kick ass.
It is demanding on hours and with customer needs - once they get hooked on you - it's end of story. They want and that's it. If you want the money - stick with it. But if you want to come to some terms of agreement with them - talk to them about with what you want to do and see if they will work with you.
As far as your IT career - I have a Computer Forensics/IT degree and even though that was before camming, I don't think it will affect you. If that is what your end goal is, go for it. If you aren't going to go on with camming forever, do it as long as you want as a means to an end. If you want to do it as a side job, do it as an extra precaution to safe guard yourself against some things.
As you go farther in your IT career, you will learn some pertinent things that will show you what you can do to safeguard yourself against people finding out what it is that you do with camming. Being that only IT people know those things - you are at a very HIGH advantage than the other girls. Sorry girls, but if any of you have an IT backround, you know what I am referring to.
As far as jobs go, just be VERY careful with how you pursue your camming career and how many companies you work for and how they show up on an employment check.
If you are not in school - I would do it FULL Time. Set a schedule, stick to it. I would do C4S and KinkBomb and start banking your income. Bank it in EVERYWAY you can. Make about 30 Videos and upload them3-4 at a time. Take about 100 pix at a time...upload about 3 pix sets at a time...see what happens. Also - do your fetish research too. :)
If you are in school do the same thing with the pix & vids - passive income kicks serious ass and sells no matter what IF you stay current with it. If you want to cam - MAKE SURE YOU STICK with the schedule no matter what - schedule a group show or two...:) Get it going. I think you will do a KICK ASS JOB!
xoxoxo HOPE that helps! Let me know if you need anything else.

Newbies only get bitched at when they ask the same questions over and over.
Her questions were very specific and concerning - which is why I believe I don't think she's gonna get bitched at for asking specific question such as those ones.
Some people aren't just bitchy Amy - they are just honest. There's a large difference. Alot of people mistake honest and realism for being bitched at and that's ok. It's a very common misconception. :)
Re: Webcam modeling noob here... Asking for some advice.
Check out these posts...
I normally DO NOT do this for newbies but since you have been one of the awesome contributing members in threads I have seen - I am so happy to help!
Also - make sure you search on selling clips and videos and pix! :)
