How can I dance without transportation?
I have been pondering this for weeks before I decided to post it here, because I can't come up with an answer on my own. :-\
This girl and I were going to start dancing for the first time this summer. She's danced before at different clubs around here in past years, so I thought it would be great to have the advantage of becoming "business partners" with someone who knew the industry in this region. Plus, she has a car and I don't.
Well, it looks like things are falling through with this girl. She keeps giving me the runaround, has stood me up every time I try to plan this summer hustle. She's a nice person, but I can't deal with someone unreliable like that when my money's involved. I want to see if I can do this on my own.
The only barrier that's keeping me from taking the plunge is the fact that I have no car. In my city, the most ideal clubs are in the surrounding towns, and each town is anywhere from 15 to 35 mins. away.
I know there are other forms of transportation, but I've been told that personal transportation contributes more to the safety and security of an exotic dancer than taking a bus or a cab.
So does anyone have any suggestions? I'm at a loss :'(
Re: How can I dance without transportation?
Go to the club you want to dance on your own and start.
If you take public transportation, whether a taxi, driver, subway, or bus know how long its going to take to get from there to your house. Know the generally area, is it a good or bad area, is it safe during night hours?
I have known girls who took the bus and subway home from work and they were safe. Be smart, dont dress up from work, have a cellphone near you, even pepper spray (if allowed), see whether other girls travel your way when the shift is done. Its deff doable.

There are some girls from around that area on this site, maybe one of them would be willing to carpool with you for some help on gas money? I don't want to point out which members are from around you in-case they'd rather not feel put on the spot, but you might want to change your post & put at the top that you need a carpool partner in the area.
As an alternative suggestion, there are some small clubs in WI that offer entertainers housing for cheap & book entertainers for 1-2 weeks at a time. If one of those would work you could catch a bus, or get a friendd to drop you off & pick you up a week later.

I know that the surrounding towns are pretty small and isolated, and crime is scarce in those areas. But the isolation is part of my problem--no public bus really goes out there, and there is no subway system. To take a taxi would be costly, and I'm barely scraping money together to begin with.
But thank you for the tips, it's at least got the cogs working in my brain! :)
Re: How can I dance without transportation?
Before I got my car, I would take the train or bus as close as I could, then get a cab the rest of the way. It definitely worked out financially and I had the money for my car at the end of it. I never felt unsafe or in danger, or had anyone try to follow me or whatever. I agree that it's always a good idea to carry pepper spray, and don't leave the club drunk. Have your wits about you at all times.
Re: How can I dance without transportation?
After I totalled my car I posted an ad on craigslist asking for a FEMALE driver who could take me to work regularly. I know that's super risky and I did get a lot of emails from men who may not have been the safest choices, but I ended up finding this girl who goes to the same school as me and is really sweet!
I pay her 15 per way, so 30 total. And the club is about 15 or 20 mins away from me. I pay her that much because it's a little less than a taxi would cost, and I'm not going to only pay her how much gas would cost because she has to go out of her way to do this on a regular basis, so i think it's fair.

Thank you, that's a good idea. I put up an ad on CL, but deleted it after a few days because of the creepy replies I knew i would receive. Specifying "female" may help.

yeah i definitely got a lot of creepy replies, but there were a couple that seemed legit also, including the girl who gives me rides now.
so ya definitely say you're looking for a FEMALE and no males need to reply
good luck!
Re: How can I dance without transportation?
can you dance during the daytime? If you are new to dancing the day time might be better for you so that you can get your feet wet.
public transit during the day is a lot better then at night. I would go that route. Stash as much money as you can and then buy a cheap car. You can probably get a decent car for under $2K

Definitely agree with this. I bought my car for $2400 with the idea that if it would just run good for one more year, I'd have graduated and made plenty money out of it, and then if it died, that was fine. That was almost 3 years ago and it's going strong with nothing done to it but new brake pads. That car has earned me its worth many many times over!
