I have written SM support with all my questions twice. I have not heard a word back. I have Liz's email. I have only written her for super important, can't-wait issues. She has always replied to me. I will not bother Liz with technical issues. SM support techs should answer us.
Does anyone have an effective way to produce results from SM support?
My Introduction to you extremely talented ladies who work on SM:
I am a freelance writer with a few gigs, but not enough to support me. I knew I was moving back home to the big lake from a southwestern almost-big-city after taking care of a relative for a few years. I knew I would not have decent ISP when I got home. Chaturbate saved me because I received a decent stream from the best satellite available where I live. FOR THREE LONG YEARS!!! I also could not take writing gigs because of unstable internet connections associated with satellite internet. If I miss a deadline, I lose customers, repeat business, and references.
I am disabled with a bad hip and back. I have to work online or go on disability. I don't do well with government subsidies. Cable, a blessing to me, arrived last fall. It is still not cityfied ISP. But, I can afford bandwidth in order to finally make more money with SM. With the money I make on SM, I can promote my writing services. I'm a talented and locally respected author and historian.
I am not a dedicated successful actor on CB. I actually learned to read Tarot Cards as a gimmick, and I accumulated a few CB tarot customers. After the token exchange, I make between $5 and $10 bucks a reading on CB. When I first realized that I had to get back home knowing that I had poor internet, I thought I had signed up with Streamate. But I had not. I had signed up with an agency who supplied SM with models that paid me through PayPal minus 5% of my earnings. Their website was extremely cunning and vague. I had no experience with camming at that time. I only knew I had to supply myself with some online income.
I found out through StripperWeb that PayPal will close your accounts for anything connected with porn. I immediately quit the agency. By the time I moved home and was 6-months free from the agency who could have screwed up my credit and all that crap, I had sloooowwwww ISP. I tried everything to continue on SM, but alas, it was a no-go.
That's where Liz at SM comes in. I wrote her very short emails during my moving and ISP probs, and she answered me quickly all three times.
I won't write to Liz that SM support is ignoring me. That exemplifies the "whiny female". I don't do counterproductive. It looks like everyone with tech probs is in the "I guess this fixed that with SM Connect" or "I found this worked" state of mind here.
Why should we have to go through guess-work when SM employs IT professionals? We are professionals as well. How do we fix this problem if we can? Maybe I'm trying to lead a horse that won't drink to water with this issue.
I am not going to use up "Ask Liz" privileges on trying to get SM support to talk to me.
^ you're right, there should be better model support.
SM is a demanding site from a technical standpoint. you have to have decent tech, internet, and a decent set up or it's a waste of time. my earnings nearly doubled when I got a gaming laptop, upgraded my cam, and my internet speed was doubled.
Wth is SM c2c Beta? I see it mentioned and this is the first I've heard of it.
The SMConnect is a pain in the ass. It boots guys constantly, I can only see the names of two guys in my room at a time, guys see each other's messages, & I can't hit break on the 30 second countdown in order to give myself enough time to get dressed.
Yeah, OK, I won't waste my time quenching the thirsty horse. It sure does look like I need to hit up some young geek squad dude at Best Buy who likes cougars...Unfortunately, I can not wear my baby doll nighty with lace panties to Best Buy. I would like to find a weak link in the SM corporate chain that will get us better answers in the tech department. I figure it will take about 2 more years of camming for me to earn a decent living writing—legally and paying taxes. I wish to find that technical loophole in SM's corporate structure and our contractual agreements that will allow us to obtain excellent tech service on the export end of SM's porn biz—but, that also seems to be an energy waster.
I'm so done trying the new streaming options. The promised boost in placement didn't appear and my stream was laggy and pixelated.
I'm actually appearing higher in placement streaming at 720p with FMLE or OBS than at 1080p with SMConnect and my stream looks clear and everyone can hear me.
i understand. I tried OBS w smconnect but annoyed by small things latency disabled.
smconnect
ive had issues like stream health not on the page
Today using smconnect I was in GS, the last 3 minutes threw me in free chat, a member took me private
Goldshow timer disappeared
member names still in guest and paid chat
during his private i got a pop up saying my GS fucked up but still credited me
then it kicked all names from all chats but his cam was on
I was so confused lol
fun times lol
It would have been absolutely educational if SM or that ripoff agency had explained the techno-info to me at the time. If it had not been Hyori on the scene in StripperWeb three years ago, I doubt that camming could have saved me...I have a deep respect for her technical knowledge and YouTube videos.
"We detected your GOLD Show timer did not end properly. Your GOLD Show has been stopped and you will be paid normally."
2nd gold show threw me in free chat with 1.30 mins remaining in gold show,
Anal all up in free chat
The guys are being awesome. I send them a clip if shit gets cut off and I am credited.
I agree with Caramelcraze that SM is very demanding from a technical standpoint. Not only is having a good strong setup very important, but taking the time to learn and research to do your own tech is a big thing. If you are interested in that kind of thing, there are many resources available on the net for free. You just have to invest the time to research and learn.
With the speed of technology progressing, it's good to never stop learning in that field, if you want to continue with streaming.
I doubt SM is going to ever offer IT services to models, since they are spending money on developing new software and setups to make things easier for models to stream. It's taking them some time to get their SMB/SMC right, but I think they will have a great setup once it's complete.
Even after it's complete... You'll need a strong computer, lots of bandwidth, good lighting, and patience, for SM to payout well for you. And- the knowledge to troubleshoot on your own when things go wrong.
Aside from that, SM has info on their help pages about setting things up. It's in the help area of SM models.
Vanessa also has a channel to help with things in more detail. She has over 100 videos and uploads regularly: https://www.youtube.com/user/AWModels
I personally started writing a technical help troubleshooting guide, which I was going to post here a couple of years ago. I ended up ditching it, as I realized that it wouldn't help much. The reason is because there isn't "a one for all" solution to issues, because all of our setups, lighting, network setups, internet providers, speeds, computer specs, etc are so different. I wish it were that easy, but unfortunately, it's not.
That's why it's good to learn your setup, and invest time in learning to be your own tech.
I hope that helps a little.
I try to help on here if I see a question, but I'm not on here every day. But if so, I'll be glad to help any of you girls if possible.
I sincerely thank you, Halo88, for that information. Learning is exactly the objective of my inquiries to this thread. Five years ago, I found that no one addressed technical issues when I wanted to supplement my income by camming. I found StripperWeb! Hyori is wholly responsible for the techno info I have researched and learned from. You just expertly laid out the best way to deal with bad tech on a cam site that does not help with the applications they push out for us to try out. I wish I owned a techie brain, but I don't. I am artsy all the way...It takes me several go-rounds to do math problems and one time to create something gorgeous out of nothing.
To take the the SM bull by the horns is to learn what works for you and your equipment. That is key. I do not have the education for that.
That being said, Halo, I wish I had known three years ago about the need for a techie-mind in camming. I did not achieve a long-term relationship with highspeed internet after my first brief encounter with SM through a rip-off agency.
You have hit the SM nail on the head with self-education on tech issues for success on SM. I hope that we can be more transparent on different specs on different computers on this thread. That's a tall order. Better bring me a beer in a Pilsner glass...
So what is everyone mainly using, SMConnect or SMBroadcast?
im using connect
I've been using SMConnect Web Encoder for about a month now which has it's annoyances but has increased my income and placement quite a bit. I switch to Flash Classic with regs that like phone option, but other than that it's SMConnect.
Connect for me to
Mostly me too. I've been going back and forth between the two, but it's starting to drive me crazy, so I just need to pick one and stick with it. When I first started with SMConnect I was streaming at 720 and I was doing really well and now for the last couple of weeks I've been streaming at 1920x1080 and its been so slow, just a ton of in's & out's and tech problems. I even contacted support and they had me run some special test to see why my streaming had changed but all they came back to me was "we're working on it".
thats what it has me streaming at - and i am having to ask constantly if they can see/hear me because it is randomly dropping my stream- I have a brand new good spec laptop - im hardwired - good cam - 11.32 upload - so IDK
I have been using smb with beta c2c. There are just too many features missing from connect to make my hustle work. I look forward to trying it a few versions down the line. I won’t be their guinea pig if they can’t give me the tools to make my income (phone/blocks specifically). My rank is the same as before the 15th which makes sense because I was already using it.
I had to switch back to flash just now - guys kept telling me they could not see me over and over the past hour and a half - to bad because I really like use Connect
I've been using smb beta c2c pretty much since it came out. I have a lot of phone guys so I'm not using connect until they add the rest of the features. I like the beta c2c anyway. It works well for me.
I use smbroadcast with the c2c beta and have been for months. I'm geoblocked so i have no clue what my placement is. But I get steady traffic and the feed is super clean most of the time, and I adore how well cam to cam works in real time. It's definitely boosted my earnings. If anything gets glitchy, usually a restart or switching browsers (I go back and forth between chrome and Microsoft Edge) will smooth it out.
I tried smconnect for like 5 minutes once and I absolutely despise the layout.
