Until you are paying self assessment taxes you won't be able to do it then as technically what's happening is AW is switching the vat burden from themselves to you under 'reverse charge provision'. This means that you account for it yourself. Even though you don't actually need to do anything for it in your own accounts unless you earn over the threshold and are subject to VAT payments, you need to actually be paying tax to establish that in the first place. It may be worth an email to AW to explain you're in you're first year of self employment and don't yet have any proof of taxes paid, but will they accept a letter from HMRC or your accountant to show you are nevertheless registered as self employed. They may make an exception but don't count on it. Do submit the paperwork when you can though, as it's worth saving yourself the extra money x
