Short songs for auditioning
So, my primary concern right now is getting hired. I'm excited about dancing and wouldn't be so concerned about song length normally, but I'm a new dancer and would rather choose 2 short songs for the audition. The club is a "rock and roll" club. Any suggestions? I've got one song down...need one more. Auditioning on Friday. If you can help a girl out, I'd greatly appreciate it!
Best,
Margaux

Dropkick Murphys - Shipping Up To Boston ..... 2 minutes and 30 seconds. :)
(not to mention it's a fucking badass song)
Re: Short songs for auditioning
A lot of Linkin Park and Evanescence songs are super short. I am not much of a fan but use them for auditions or when the crowd isn't tipping and I want to keep things brief.

Not all clubs cut their songs. A majority of the clubs I've worked for ( 50 ish across the US ) play songs to their entirety and will not cut them for anything. OTOH you do work for a corporate club and most of them cap off songs at the three and a half minute mark. I personally wish all clubs would do that because it sucks to be stuck onstage to a 5 + minute song or giving a lap dance to a never-ending song. BOTM has a valid point and it might be best for the OP to call the club she plans to audition at and make sure what their policy on song length is.
Re: Short songs for auditioning
Good ideas all around...
"The Haunted" is an awesome song to dance to that's short. Thanks for the ideas. Am reconsidering my first idea because it's too high energy, I think. I need to remember to go slow and despite the fact that it's the right length & awesome for pole tricks, the last thing I need is to be amped!
I'll contact the club to see what their song protocol is. It's a small club and on day shift girls run their own music. That I know.

I wish I could let them go to 3:30, but we have to cut them at 3 or even less if it's busy.
Doesn't sound like it's going to be a problem for Margaux though.

Hey, mister dj... *bats eyelashes* hook me up, will you?
(please?)
:)
Re: Short songs for auditioning
Most clubs won't play super short songs like that, so be prepared with back up songs that are in the 3-3.5 minute range.
Re: Short songs for auditioning
I haven't even been able to find any that are less than 3 minutes. "Haunted" is 3:05. I was thinking of "Everlasting Light" as another song to go with it, but it doesn't really "mesh" that well. Not sure...argh. Feeling more nervous today. Last night I was fine, but not having music down is bothering me. I need to just practice all afternoon.
Re: Short songs for auditioning
If you mean 'The Haunted' by the Flood, I wouldn't try that for an audition, probably too heavy for most clubs unless maybe it's a biker bar.
A good short rock song might be 'Lil Devil', The Cult, at less than three minutes, For a slower song I think 'Forsaken' from Queen of the Damned soundtrack (David Dramen of Disturbed among other current rock greats) might be good, it's right about 3.
Good luck girl, go get that job!
Re: Short songs for auditioning
Thanks, everyone for your help! I did well and they asked me to stay and work today. After the initial audition it was MUCH easier. I just had fun and enjoyed dancing. Naked. ;)
I ended up dancing to "Dragonfly" and "Strange Days" (by Syntax). It was just fine. The best advice I can give anyone else auditioning is to dance to what makes you feel sexy. I loved Dragonfly because it can help if you can show off pole tricks, but otherwise...would never choose this song.
I didn't end up dancing to "Haunted" and will never. Too dramatic and the girl's voice...I like it...just not for a strip club.
What I learned today is that I need music...like now...like LOTS. I almost exhausted my itunes. There were only 3 girls on and so I was dancing like every 24-30 minutes and me with practicing pole tricks (on a static pole) = me very tired right now. i'm actually going to bed. Yes, at 9:52 on a Friday night.
Thank you for all your input. I would love for more short song suggestions though. I'm spending my "dollars" on music, I think. I need to amass many a song.
It really was fun. Money not stellar, but you know...I'm easy going about this. I've never danced before and as much as I will dance my ass off and hustle, I am able to give myself a break and have some perspective here. I had a great time and I'm really happy with how things went.
Thanks again for your help.
xoxo

You're awesome! (Thanks!)
Here was my playlist from yesterday:
Everlasting Light
House of the Rising Sun (those last two went over really well)
I feel you (no one there when I danced to that...I love dancing to that damn song. Awesome)
Bad things (this too...big hit...kinda cliche, but they were into it)
If loving' you is wrong, Faithless (danced SUPER slow to that)
No, You Girls--Franz Ferdinand
Indigo Children--Puscifer
Hot Like Sauce--Pretty Lights
Vision, Vision--Loyal Divide
Moan--Trentemøller
The Passenger--Iggy Pop (which was super fun)
Let me get some--Amanda Blank
Mouth--Bush
Waiting Room--Fugazi
Journal of Ardency--Class Act
Panther--Barletta
Weapons of Mass Destruction--Crystal Method
Aforementioned "Dragonfly" and "Strange Days" by Syntax

Hell yeah Iggy Pop!
Eagles of Death Metal has a couple of good short tunes 'I want you so hard' and 'I only want you'
