you need time management skills
I often have the same issue, but i'm terrible and give in and sometimes only end up working a few times a week. But in those times i am so stressed cause i'm trying to cram in the goal i need to get LOL. Minnie's right about time management.. at the end of the day that's the thing we have to learn and practice. There is a saying which i think is true (based on when i used to work in a "normal" job for a top 100 company over here, sometimes up to 12 hours a day, then look after horse, family, boyfriend etc) - "The busiest people have the most time". It's about planning and managing time effectively so you get everything done tht you need to, and have time left over to do even more stuff :D
I don't always do so well balancing hours throughout the day, lets say I plan to do this for an hour and another thing for two hours... I mess up. I do better dividing things by convenient days, you might be the type to handle that better, I don't know.
For example, on a day i cam i take that breaks in which I already have the make-up on and room set up to do pics. I try to stop camming after dinner to do any promotion tasks while winding down, using breaks that you'd have to do anyway to switch gears helps a bit. As for off-cam obligations, I try and take full days off to visit friends, shop and do big house maintenace. Seems to work out a lil better than drumming to tweet-cam-inbox-feed pets-cook-dishes-callthatfriendinevercall-takepictures-shootvideos all in one day routine
I cam part time now (+ square job) and still do't balance it too too well (in terms of ensuring I sleep well, eat well, invest time in my relationship, see friends, have hobbies outside of camming, dr visits, exercise, etc). Its always a battle. Asides from focusing heavily on content production to cut into time needed to cam I use some of the below to cut time invested in promotions:
1. program my tweets so they post on a schedule so I don't have to manually tweet all the time: http://techie-buzz.com/featured/sche...er-tweets.html
2. program facebook updates (same idea as above): http://www.ilovefreesoftware.com/27/...s-updates.html
3. Use text messaging services to alert indy clients that I am online all at one. It costs $ for the service i use - can't disclose b/c they don't officially allow adult content oopsie - but its $10-15 a month depending on how much I text people. You can use google voice too Im sure - but the program I use allows you to separate groups of people that you text (to divide guys who I *know* get paid on Fridays to only text them on Fridays... text guys who are ALWAYS available and ready to pay more frequently, text guys who only come by on occasion occasionally) makes your number anonymous, and you can make contact notes about each person. It helps. Kind of like how if guys ad you to their favorites on mega sites the site notifies them - now you can do it on your own.
3. Put up a google alert of your cam name. A bit scary b/c you may and probably will find pirated content that way but if your name is posted in forums or listservs guys are wondering about you or looking for a review (more common with content producers than live camming), you can join in the conversation immediately which acts as a way to promote. This can be hard not to get addicted to, so set your google alerts to send you an aggregated notice weekly.
4. Exchange links like a beast - site promotion is done for you and increases your SEO. SO your page isn't cluttered with link exchanges just be strategic about what cam girl probably attracts a similar audience as your brand
5. Have an e-newsletter function on your site, a google/yahoo group, or make sure to use your c4s newsletter feature... and send email blasts out to everyone maybe 1-4 a month, depends on your perception of return and annoyance. I only use these features once a month.
6. synchronize your social networking feeds (hell even schedule all of the above) http://socialtimes.com/sync-facebook-twitter_b2207
7. Have a small handful of camgirls you tweet back and forth with (ideally in your genre), custies seem to like watching that interaction plus you help exchange customers. Don't abuse this though - do it every so often (few times a week is where I try to stay at) so people know you're real and not a bot of links... but not so much you get caught up in drama... which is where the cheapest hangerons and white knights seem to always get attracted
Thats helped me so far - plus the time management link in my signature. Its tough to balance though 0 sometimes lurking in work-at-home and small business blogs and forums gives good guidance too
i deal with this a lot, especially because i do other non-adult work as well and i've been self-employed for a long time (alongside regular employment). i love not being accountable to others but at the same time i hate it, and a lot of the traditional time management systems really didn't work for me. i found this tool really helpful for figuring out how to fit everything that i want AND need to do into my weeks. i'm still not anywhere near perfect at it but i've come a long way!
rambly-ness ahead (i'm tired at the moment!)...for me, grouping things together works well because i can't switch back and forth between tasks quickly and stay focused - i need a long block of time to focus on work, a long block of time to focus on housework, etc. so i try to divide things up so i do a lot of housework on one day, i do all the errands like groceries on another day, etc. there are a few tasks that don't take as much time that i do multiple times a week (like sometimes i'll do a load of laundry every other day or every few days instead of waiting til housework time and spending four hours doing laundry). but for the most part i find making big blocks to be really really helpful. i tend to divide the day into morning, afternoon, and evening (~4 hrs each), and try to fit camming into 1-2 of those time blocks (sometimes i do a full shift, sometimes not), and do the meals/cooking in between each block of time. so i'll spend the morning on camming, the afternoon on housework, cook in between. if that makes sense. instead of dividing up the afternoon into like four different tasks and feeling very scattered.
I find it easier to just cam the whole day... get in the groove and just do it , over and over... ( with small breaks of course).. and relax/do housework another day..
when im relaxing, im relaxing..
when im working, im working..
