Rejected for the first time ever
Ok, so i am dragging my arse out of retirement and i have a job at a club that maks me slightly uncomfortable so i went to a club tht i always read is "the best pace to work" to audition.
I walk in and the place is a dive - it's a shabby pub the kind where you stick to the carpet as you walk through. Dancers are skinny rat-faced and bored looking apart from one girl who is outsized and miserable looking.
First warning sign should have been when I get asked "do you have your song? Because some girls don't do very well because they don't have their music with them" - er it's stripping, it's freestyle and to me, i'm a lapdancer, it's really not important, i get pid to make guys horny not to do a perfect ronde-du-jambe. But no - her verdict was that i'm not a good enough dancer - which is laughable since i dance with the best dancers in London in films, music videos, jams and battles in a range of styles that leave people askijg formlessons, but no, because i don't do the poe-faced "stripper" dance i get blanked??!
I do an average stage show for an audition - i have other stuff, cute routines and sets tht i pull out for the appropriate crowds but i cant see how anyone can possibly think they have a grubby little pub that justifies the use of the routines i put together for upscale clubs or the use of my other dance skills -(point work, sure, but not in your tinly little room or at least certainly not for an audition!)
Re: Rejected for the first time ever
You're probably too good looking for a club like that. I had something like that happen myself where I was much hotter than the other girls and they made a lousy excuse. People would question why clubs would reject hotter dancers but it's many reasons, from they can control the uglies to the uglies might be easier to have sex with.
Re: Rejected for the first time ever
Oh wow id say I'm sorry but your better than some sticky floored dive bar anyways!
Re: Rejected for the first time ever
If the woman you auditioned for is insecure she won't hire you. I've seen a house mom reject some perfectly attractive and bright women for bs reasons. If she's intimidated you won't get in but plain Jane from the the trailer park down the road (we're in a country area) is a shoe-in. Brush it off and don't take it to heart.
Re: Rejected for the first time ever
Based on your first post... I would assume you got rejected for your attitude towards the club and clearly not caring enough to TRY during your audition.
...but that's just me.
If you don't want the job/act like you're too GOOD for the job... why would they GIVE you the job? Ya know?
Re: Rejected for the first time ever
^ well is it possible she DID give the place a chance, and only started dissing the club AFTER she got rejected, ie in hindsight? I've done that b4...eg, when I was younger I mite think a guy was decent looking until he insulted me, then I'd start focusing on the fact that his ears were too big, his ab area not slim enough, etc.
Also, is it possible that the reason she didnt bring out the routines was becuz the stage was too small or otherwise not physicaly accomidating? Or mebbe she was referring to stuff that she mite use while feature dancing, things that arnt typically thought of to bring along to a regular audition?
Jus some ideas. ::two cents::

Well obviously you aren't going to do a 'feature routine' for an audition... but there's a difference between not doing a feature show and only doing an 'average' stage show on purpse.

I don't do feature shows either... but my stage show is still excellent... regardless of where I'm auditioning.
Giving an 'average' show for your audition when you can clearly do better makes you look like you don't care if you get hired or not.
Re: Rejected for the first time ever
At my club there are three girls who are professional dancers. Two of them use it in their routines - but to the point that they look strange on stage because they might be good dancers, but they dont move like strippers. And it's kind of obvious that they think they're better than the rest of us on stage, but in reality they just look out of place.
The third girl dances like a stripper on stage, and uses her flexibility as a professional dancer to do some nice moves. And she looks good!
Re: Rejected for the first time ever
Thanks for the feedback all - i didn't have an attitude towards the club - i'd been told that this was the best place in london to work - but of course these things are always subjective. I'd been told that this place was well run, high earning and looked after girls so i tried out and found it to be physically run down, dingy and definitely not the kind of place for my showy routines that i usually use in bigger more theatrical settings. This was a dirty, dingy, threadbare pub with a tiny stage and no glamour so i took my sparkly custom made ass up there and did the standard stripper shit.
@bringonthemen - i've been a stripper for a decade - as well as dancing in films, music videos etc - i'm not a newb, My point is that i don't appreciate being told that i'm "not a good enough dancer" when i'm actually a professional trained dancer in lots of dance styles. But i was spoken to as though this dingy little pub was the Royal Ballet - when all i saw was typical strip club poe-faced dancing. I mean, that's fine and if they had told me in advance that's what they wanted then i wouldn't have been my natural smiley burlesquey self - i do dance like a stripper but a smiley happy one as opposed to the kind that takes themselves way too seriously especially when in such a ridiculously low-scale setting, i've worked in far nicer places than that with way better dancers than that so it riles me to be told i'm not good enough for them when their standard wouldn't last a second in other places i've danced.

Great post - thanks - this is exactly the problem i think i had. I don't dance like i am a "dancer" when i am stripping because it would look ridiculous, but i do try to use my professional skills to enhance my dancing, i.e. my rhythm, musicality, flexibility, but i feel that these are of greater use in feature type routines or lapdances and London doesn't seem to do these.

True, but i also have ten years of strip club experience and as i said in the title have never failed to get a job in a SC before. It's ok, it's not the end of the world, i just thought this was the place to come have a vent as it's not exactly a situation my non-stripper friends can understand.
Re: Rejected for the first time ever
I feel almost the same way; it has been easier for me to get jobs in nicer, bigger, upscale clubs than in smaller neighborhood clubs.
The last neighborhood club I've went to (since I wanted a club closer to my house to avoid commuting to Richmond and DC) didn't hire me, and it was very clear because I was better looking than most girls...and I've known many other girls who had suffered the same fate!!
