I just felt my building shake about 15 minutes ago. I'm in PA.
The 5.8 magnitude earthquake was centered about 100 miles southwest of Washington, D.C. near Mineral, Virginia, and was felt as far north as Canada and as far south as Atlanta.
It originated along the central Virginia faultlines where multiple earthquakes of much smaller magnitude have occurred over the last 20 years.
The Pentagon, Capitol and other federal facilities in and around D.C. are being evacuated as a standard terrorist precaution. So far no injuries have been reported.
The North Anna I and North Anna II nuclear power plants are located near Mineral, Virginia. Both are currently in lockdown mode.
Update: The quake was just upgraded to a magnitude 5.9. It's the largest earthquake reported in Virginia since 1897.
We are expecting a series of aftershocks of lower magnitude.
Ok now why was there a 6.2 magnitude quake hit at 3:12 am (their time) struck southwest of Krui area in Lampung Province. Undersea earthquake hit Sumatra, Indonesia
Here too! Upstate NY. Strongest I've ever felt up here.
I'm in North NJ, about half hour away from NYC. I was in my bed & I felt it. Fuck, I hope this is it and we have nothing else coming. :-/
I'm in Maryland and it woke me up. I was scared my building was going to collapse. What a scary feeling!
I made sure to get dressed and I'm waiting for any aftershocks.
Wow this so weird to see the east coast get quakes. My mouth is hanging open like whaaaaaaat??
Wow! That's a pretty big one for that part of the country. Did it cause any power outages, or any significant damages?
Shook my chair in NWNJ.

It really isnt something that I would suggest anyone going through The fear involved isnt worth the experience My floor is permanently fucked now. There has already been a 2.8 aftershock. WHo knows if there will be another aftershock. This isnt a joke.
Im n the D.C area no damage or injures thank goodness but honestly Im all shook up lol.
Just the slightest rocking sensation. Nothing major. I'm more concerned about the STUPID hurricane that better not come here!
Where is the hurricane going? Earthquakes....hurricanes....perhaps the apocalypse is coming!
And before anyone setts huffy and puffy...yes I know all this stuff is serious. I grew up in south fl, and have lived through so many horrible hurricanes (andrew, katrina).
http://www.weather.com/weather/hurri...ene_2011-08-20 They are saying it could get to Cat 4 because the water is unusually warm.
Dammit. The moment I get back to work all of this shit happens.
