what about your bank statements?
Your previous years tax return is the best way for self-employed people to show proof of income. Also, proof of good credit, and like tinydancer said- bank statements are good, too. I haven't had a problem proving income with my streamate stubs- because they dont say the company on there, so i just say its from a random internet source (affiliate check, whatever). You can also get a confirmation letter from an accountant. Good luck :)
Just call the apartments and ASK what they'll accept as proof of income. ;)
I've applied places where a bank statement showing I had 4 months of rent in my savings account was sufficient.
I would call them and speak professionally, say I'm self employed as an internet consultant or similar and therefore don't have payslips, and would they accept my bank statements as proof of income. I can't imagine someone wouldn't accept a year's worth of consistent income being deposited to your bank account as proof of income.
It might even be good to call some whose rentals you are NOT interested in, just to see what they'll say and to sort of practice your schtick before calling those you ARE interested in. Sometimes the way you present a question makes a huge difference in the way it will be answered ;)
Exactly what I was going to say. I had issues with getting an apartment at first. But then I gave them paystubs to match with bank statements and my tax return. It worked out just fine, girl, don't worry. I believe that there's always a way if you're persistent. :)
^Ya, we are the ones who personally deal with this kind of issue, not the financial analysts who hang in Dollar Den lol.
I was able to buy a car a few months ago with a fat down payment, a "fair-ish" credit score and 6 months of bank statements showing enough income. This was a super nice 1yo car at a Nissan dealership also, not some junker at a dive lot. I'm also good at answering creditor questions ;)
Point is, we are better-equipped to answer this type of question because we deal with it ourselves. People who have years of great-looking tax returns, regular paycheck jobs and such aren't going to be as familiar with this issue as we are.
Thanks girls. Well soon will come the test - we are going to an estate agent on Tuesday to look at a house we're interested in!! Not brought up the dreaded subject yet ::)
Why don't you test it on some agents you're NOT interested in first, just to see their reaction and get a little practice? If you feel nervous you will come off shady and they won't be likely to rent to you no matter what.
I don't go to Dollar Den much but most of the regular posters I see there are not sex workers and certainly are not "average" sex workers.
I'm still going to say that someone who has actually had to prove her income for a rental RECENTLY based on camming income is a better person to ask about how to do it, and we are all hanging out in here :)
