Didn't know where to put this!
I just joined this site tonight and just became a cam girl this week. I didn't know where to introduce myself here...but my name is Nicole! I am a total newbie, but the info I found on this site has been VERY helpful! I would appreciate any help I can get, I just gotta keep digging around on here to find what I want! So far so good though ;D

Re: Didn't know where to put this!
Yes welcome! I just joined here too, and I'm so glad I found it or else I would have joined a studio and be getting screwed! This is my second night camming and I finally did it and got a couple privates lol
Re: Didn't know where to put this!
I think I probably made a mistake...because I joined a studio I think. Internetcamjobs.com is the place I signed up through, and I have a Streamate account through them. I am completely green when it comes to this stuff. So frustrating! What is the difference in joining a studio and not joining one??
Re: Didn't know where to put this!
Thanks loveshooks, I honestly did not know that! I suppose I will be learning something new every day! Do I have to use a different name on a different site? It's completely fine if I do. I was thinking of joining MFC, but their site is confusing to me. I want to join a strong site, so LiveJasmin is out of the question. But I don't even know where to start searching :/

Average studio fee I have found for SM is 20%, stay far clear of studios, if anyone is in doubt post the url here and we can verify if its a studio or not pretty quickly.

http://internetcamjobs.com/index.php
This is the place I signed up through, which in turn put me on SM. If what you said is the case, should I just cancel my account with internetcamjobs and sign up directly through SM?

Yes, definitely, 100% cancel with them and sign up normally with SM. Ask them to request to SM to have the account fully de-activated. SIgn up through SM after that to keep all your SM earnings.

Okay, would I have to get a new performer name as well?
Re: Didn't know where to put this!
Welcome to SW :D Yes you should def cancel any account you have with a studio, they are not worth it x

Direct quote from this page:

On 'average', Adult Webcam Models with Internet Cam Jobs earn 80 cents per minute for each customer in Premium Chat and $1.00 per minute for Exclusive Chat. Per minute rates based on Adult Webcam Model rates set at $3.19 per minute for Premium Chat and $3.99 per minute for Exclusive Chat.
That means they are paying 25% of sales. Streamate pays 35%.
This site, probably like most studios, didn't tell the exact percentage they pay and worded the "potential earnings" statements in a confusing way to make a bad deal sound good.
FYI, to figure out the percentage a company pays from this example, take the amount they say you will earn per minute and divide by the amount they say customers will pay. In this case:
.80 / 3.19 = .25 = 25%
1.00 / 3.99 = .25 = 25%
Any REAL camsite will tell the actual percentage they pay, rather than write up some convoluted crap like this studio site has. This is one REALLY obvious give-away whether a site is a studio or not - if they don't tell the actual % of sales paid, they are a studio. Also if they don't have rows of actual cam models whose profiles and cam rooms you can click on and look at UNDER THEIR OWN DOMIAN, they are a studio and to be avoided.
Re: Didn't know where to put this!
You can probably keep your name. I did this before. I had an account that was inactive so long that they canceled it, then I signed up for a new one with the same name. No issues. But I don't know if they'll close the account completely right away. You can apply with the name you want to use and see what happens.
Good for you for taking action. :)
Re: Didn't know where to put this!
Generally, your studio is going to say no. In which case SM will back them up, and try to tell you that you must wait a year to sign up after quitting the studio.
BE PERSISTENT!! Talk about filing with the BBB and the State Attorney if necessary (try nice, till it is obvious nice doesn't work) and that you are mentally handicapped and shit, and they are taking advantage of you. Whatever you have to say to get them to completely cancel your account and make you not exist with SM anymore.
At the same time, if the studio DOES say no, atert writing begging letter to SM, and let them know you are brand new and need a break, and that this place is taking 10% and doing nothing and that you already have BBB and legal stuff going on, and can they PLEASE make an exception as a One Time Courtesy to you....
All of that MIGHT work...if not, then PJ may be able to help, and if not, there is always AW and MFC for a year....
