I know a few Canadian escorts who tour in the U.S. All have been questioned at the border at least once. Only one was turned away but as I understand it, her papers were not in order or something similar.
It would be BEST to have an American contact willing to vouch for you. So if you say: "I am visiting a friend " you have a name , address and phone number to give them and a person willing to say that they know you and are expecting your visit.
It is BEST to keep it on a basic , simple and personal level because if you say something like : "I've got a job interview " or "I'm auditioning for something " or "It's a business trip " there are potential issues and complications.
It is VERY rare for personal luggage to be checked and then only if you do or say something suspicious. Nonetheless you might want to think twice about packing the leather outfit.
