Anyone on here trying to GAIN weight?
I am currently 5'8 and 120 lbs. I was looking at the "perfect body" thread, and I realized, I would really LOVE to gain just 15 more pounds. I went to Models.com and looked at portfolios and I found a model who is the same height as me and 135.
I think I would look so much better if I could just add 15 pounds. Anyone else trying to gain weight? Anyone have any secrets to gaining weight, other than eating several times a day? I don't get that hungry, so I just eat 2-3 meals per day, and I drink a lot of milk.
Here is a picture of the model:

Re: Anyone on here trying to GAIN weight?
hmm maybe you could concentrate on building muscle? that model is very toned & sculpted, it looks to me like that's where her curves come from, not necessarily more fat.
Re: Anyone on here trying to GAIN weight?
i have 15 lbs i can donate to you ;D
Re: Anyone on here trying to GAIN weight?
Drink Ensure Plus 3 times a day with your meals. It's 350 calories and it will help you gain those extra pounds you want. When I was 120 and wanted to gain 20 pounds, it helped me tremendously. This is what my doctor told me to do when I told him I wanted to gain weight.

Also when you drink your glass of milk you can add 2 scoops of whey powder and a scoop of ice cream. It's delicious, like drinking a milkshake.

I'm not trying to gain weight, just maintain or tone, but I can tell you what to do if you want to gain weight (fat, not muscle). Eat carbs. Lots of them. And make that the biggest part of every meal. Also make sure you eat a good amount of calories everyday. I do exactly the opposite to maintain or lose weight.
If you want to solely build muscle, then disregard that info because I totally have no idea how to do that lol. I would assume just spend lots of time in the gym doing weight training (NOT cardio) and eat protein-heavy meals.

Re: Anyone on here trying to GAIN weight?
I tried to gain weight, but due to a bunch of outside factors (gluten intolerance/permanently hindered ability to nutrients, genetic factors, weird food requirements), the only time I've had any success was when I was weightlifting. I don't mean, just flat out pumping iron, I was doing a lot of rowing(machine), elliptical, and pushups. I had to eat like six times a day, though lol
Re: Anyone on here trying to GAIN weight?
Gosh I wish that was my problem lol. I have always struggled with my weight in the opposite end of the spectrum, I would gladly give you some of my extra weight lol...
However my ex was an avid body builder and took personal training classes and he was constantly trying to put on weight (Much like that model, muscle weight, not weight in fat)...anway he used to tell me about his eating regine all the time, it could probably help you out a bit.
He upped his protein intake a lot. Make sure you are eating a lot of protein. Lean chicken breast, fish like shrimp, salmon etc. Even though you are trying to put on weight, to get a figure like that model you want to focus on things that will build muscle not fat, so try to eat 'cleanly' (whole foods) I second the whey powder idea. If you work out at all, drink a whey shake after a work out. I wouldn't really replace a meal with them though, you could drink them through out the day like a snack also.
Energy bars may be good through out the day also if hungry- would probably work as a good cam snack too.
And if you want to buld muscle you are going to probably have to do some working out. Don't focus on cardio too much (more for dropping weight) I would focus on weighs, even like 5lb free weights. Do a few reps a few times a day....and sit ups for the abs :)
Good luck :)

Hi Sweetsam- I'm 5'9 and I look best when I am at 133. I am really busty and I look slim yet curvy at 133. Haha I wish I was there now!!! LOL. Good luck!
Re: Anyone on here trying to GAIN weight?
Yep I went through the whole trying to gain weight thing since im super tiny. Lets just say all the protein & ensure drinks+ reg 3 time meals of mostly pastas & potatoes failed me. :( Found out i have an unusual hyperactive thyroid, so my metabolism works super fast. I can only hope it slows as i get older. But ensure drinks + protein should help you put on the weight like earlier suggested. I've just accepted my petite body build.
Re: Anyone on here trying to GAIN weight?
Thanks! My family tends to gain weight after they are 30. My mom and my aunt are also very tall. Well the whole family anyways, but they both told me their metabolism didn't slow down until they hit 30. I am only 28 right now. So I am hoping that that should happen to me as well but I want to gain weight now! lol I am tired of waiting. I mean I am alright with my body now, I am not stressing about it, but it's a goal for myself I would like to accomplish. :)

I know how you feel I was determined to gain weight. I asked my doctor for appetite enhancers and that helped alot. So ask your doc to prescribe you some. The thing I hated about appetite enhancers are they made me super sleepy. They did work though, I took them for a few months. This was many years ago so they may not have the same side effects.
Re: Anyone on here trying to GAIN weight?
Sam inbetween your meals where you'll want to concentrate on protein and carbs in that order you can drink a product called Muscle Milk. It's a protein supplement shake. Just remember that when you are upping your protein you're system will react one of two ways on the other end of digestion. You will want to be prepared with some softeners, just like if you were having to take an iron supplement.
As for exercise I would definitely go with weight bearing, you can do this as simply as using your body weight for pushups, squats, lunges and such. Good luck.
Re: Anyone on here trying to GAIN weight?
You've received a lot of great advice on how to gain weight here... I just wanted to note that gaining fat can drastically change the appearance of your face. 10 pounds can make you look completely different. So if you're happy with your face... You definitely should opt for the protein/weights to build muscle to change your body type rather than just adding calories.
Re: Anyone on here trying to GAIN weight?
Thanks! That is good to know!!

adding brewer's yeast to your food can also be a good source of extra calories & nutrients :)
Re: Anyone on here trying to GAIN weight?
Maybe they have the Ensure in generic form? I am not trying to gain, but I must not let myself get to where I was a couple mo. ago..stick thin, terrible. I have a hyper thyroid, so I burn calories fast, plus manual grass mowing..ugh.
