Password Protected Internet Connection
Super dumb techy question-
I recently got new internet. I never "password" protected it. Can someone tell me how I do this?
Out of curiosity, if my internet has not been password protected up until now, is it possible for one of my neighbors to see what sites I have been on or working?
Thank you so much for any advice. :)
(I should add- the reason I am asking this is because in the past week 3 different people have come into my room and said they were from the exact suburb that I am from. I have geo restrictions blocking my whole state and since I started SM no one has ever come into my room saying they were from the same state until this week. I just find it weird and am trying to get to the bottom of it. Thank you. )

I don't really know, but that's creepy! I hope you figure it out :/
Re: Password Protected Internet Connection
Not sure if both are connected, but to set a password to your internet link up to it via ethernet cable. Put this address in your browser 192.168.1.1 or and click enter.
You should then see your routers admin panel, find the set password feature and create a password.
Note: This isnt the same for all routers but its a general starting point.
Re: Password Protected Internet Connection
with unsecured wifi, it's possible. Figure out what model router you have and log into it, you'll probably have to do some googling to figure out if it has default firmware or the internet company's, as well as which IP to log into and default login name and password. The address for it will look something like 192.168.?.? If you have the manual, it should be able to tell you most of this
you can also go to 'Network' if you have windows (I'm assuming you do), rightclick on whatever's under Network Infrastructure, and click 'View Webpage', and that should take you to the router login page. Usually from there you can figure out (sort of) what kind of brand and firmware it is if it's not printed anywhere on the router
type whichever numbers are the login for your router into your browser, login, and there should be a section that says 'wireless' or something similar. It'll be in SOMETHING marked 'Encryption', it could be just a text entry box on the Wireless page, or it might have its own
if it doesn't have a randomizer for the key, I recommend you use randomizer.org
