Where do you download music now? For free
Last time I used limewire (like over a month ago) all the songs I downloaded were some bullshit like "this is an illegal download" and just kept repeating I was pissed.
any good suggestions on a fast and reliable program with good sound quality and where I won't get thrown in jail?
fuck I just need to get a smart phone and use pandora for the gym... fml

Not a program, but I've been downloading songs on this site for ages: http://www.downloads.nl/local/en/mp3.html It's great because you can listen to the song first before downloading it to make sure it's the right one.
Re: Where do you download music now? For free
Frostwire is pretty much the same as Limewire.
Also check out Soundcloud ... I know the DJs I listen to post mixes on there and I download them. :)
Re: Where do you download music now? For free
search google for mikkisays, there's a broad selection of albums to download from there...
Re: Where do you download music now? For free
I use something called mp3 rocket
It's not free but I think it's like a one time payment of 25 dollars for life
I'm not sure it's been years ago
I've been using it ever since tho.
Even reinstalled it and such a few times with no problems when changing computers and such
Re: Where do you download music now? For free
find a good torrentz site

I either download full albums via torrents/newgroups or rip the mp3 from youtube
Re: Where do you download music now? For free
For songs - I use these free Mp3 Search Engines:
www.beemp3.com
www.bomb-mp3.com
www.mp3raid.com
www.mp3free4all.com
For albums, I usually Google the album title followed by - 'blogspot'. This usually gives me a good selection of private 'blogs' with download links and passwords. However, there are some excellent FREE Search Engines that I use as well:
www.filestube.com
www.bergfiles.com
www.filetram.com
www.mp3locker.net
www.filecatch.com
Try them out..........Oh...and if you're unsure of the song title or whatever....just 'Google' the Artist's name followed by 'Discography'....and look at the 'Wikipedia' entry. It's usually a pretty comprehensive list, and the album titles are also hotlinks to the track-lists too.

I just download songs from youtube using my video download add-on for firefox. It takes less than 10 seconds and you don't have to worry about catching any viruses.
Re: Where do you download music now? For free
^^ Sorta similar to that, I have a program from DVDVideoSoft that has a youtube to mp3 converter within it. I've almost always been able to find whatever song I wanted on youtube and put it through that. Every once in awhile, it stops working but that just means you need an updated version.

Torrents are verrry nice, assuming you have virus protection and are not looking for anything too out of the scope of atleast somewhat popular music. My seeders and peers are bitches, generally-constantly m.i.a.
I second pussyinboots entire list of online sites!! ;D
Likewise, the site Addison posted(http://youtube-mp3.org) is good, but I found my files getting fuck'd quality after a while in the form of skips. Of course, my music may also just be too avant garde for that poor little conversion engine... :O
When you rip anything but an audio file from Youtube, you'll have to convert it from the flv format. I've used a helluvalotta conversion software and would completely recommend this one for it's speed: http://www.aone-soft.com/flv_to_avi_..._converter.htm
It's FREE. Assuming you click the "Free Download" tab rather than the $29.99 purchasing one. No trials. No dice. :propeller
As for a ripper, I like Orbit's Grab(www.orbitdownloader.com), but it gets a little slow, atleast on my already slow computer, when you're trying to do, say, 8 songs at once. Can rip any damn thing off of Youtube.
Happy listening! :headphone

torrents, like missjzone said. If you don't already use torrents then:
1. google search and download utorrent once it's installed then
2. go to www.torrentz.com and search for band/album
3. It'll give you a list of sites where the torrent is hosted my faves are:
btjunkie.org, fulldls.com and thepiratebay.org
4. Click "Download Torrent" NOT direct download
5. If it doesn't automatically open up in utorrent right click on the downloaded file in your browser and select "always open this file type" then open it again
6. If you don't want all the songs deselect ones you don't want
7. If you're paranoid about security search and download peerguardian2, stops government and other known ip addresses accessing your ip address.
Also a great way to download movies/tv shows/ebooks/chocolate cake/kittens/LIFE ITSELF!!
