would this hurt me pursuing a future career in healthcare
Hey guys, I'm new to this forum and I've been reading through all the informative threads you guys have provided.
I'm really drawn to camming because of the creativity, flexibility (I love to travel and would love to cam abroad), opportunity to save up for my own business (something I'd be really passionate about, even more passionate than healthcare), and to be able to pay off my student loans that are hanging over my head. I'm even considering it as supplementary income to my primary career.
I'm hoping to pursue a degree in healthcare which will most likely require that I work with children. I was considering wearing a wig/colored contacts on cam to disguise myself but I wonder if that's enough to prevent me from being outed and having my degree go to waste. I'd also be nervous about selling clips and going all out and marketing myself so would camming still be worth it without all the promoting promoting promoting? (I'd most likely explore niche markets/fetish) Also if camming is a bad idea for one in my situation, can PSO be lucrative as well?
Thanks in advance.

With this kind of thing, its russian routlette. You never know what will hurt you and what won't until it actually does hurt you. Someone who works with you could stumble upon your stuff and alert the owner/manager, and no owner or any business wants a girl who gets naked to be represent any part of their company (I don't think its a big deal, but society does). They could also find out about it and not think its a big deal. You never know. But if you plan to work with children, it will be a big deal if your stuff surfaces to anyone you work with because people are so crazy about that whole "role model" thing.

This is why I'm trying to be super careful and only do non-nude and foot fetish stuff from now on. That way if I do get found out later on, it won't be QUITE as bad as it could have been. Though I don't even know if it's worth the effort. I just wish we could evolve more in our culture to accept this type of work as not bad. In this economy, you gotta do what you gotta do. I wouldn't even worry that much at all if it weren't for those asses who record our shows and put them where they're not supposed to be! Makes the idea of geographical bans pretty much useless.
Sorry about the rant, I've just been frustrated lately and at a turning point in my career. All in all, my advice is to give it a lot of thought. It's a great job in my opinion but your stuff is going onto the internet where they say you can never take it back, and future employers will probably not go easy on you unfortunately.

If you're going to cam, I would just go all out if you're comfortable with that. If you plan to work with children, it won't matter if you're nude or not if they catch you. What will matter is that you worked in the sex industry where your job was to sexually excite someone. That's the main issue with it.
Re: would this hurt me pursuing a future career in healthcare
Its a gamble - I know lots of people who have stripped/escorted/cammed and then gone on to work in healthcare/teaching/etc with no problems (yet...) the issue is that there is always the chance that you will be found out and that it will jeopardize your career.
Of all the adult work out there, camming is one of the most visible and longest lasting (one guy recording you ONE TIME can always re-surface twenty years down the line, and this guy could be anywhere in the world...) but as you say, you can wear and wig and contacts and be pretty well hidden - as long as you do not have tattoos or very specific scars/birthmarks.
I think that the decision on whether or not it is worth it is very much going to depend on how much it will stress/worry you in future. If you are pretty devil-may-care and don't think that it'll weigh on your mind too much, then take all precautions and give it a shot! But if you think that you will end up stressed and anxious and feeling like the thought of being "caught" is going to weigh on you every day for the rest of your life? Not worth it.
Also - you mentioned wanting to cam abroad - be careful with tax laws on this one. Camming does pay into a bank account or by cheque, so it is traceable, and you should be paying tax. So if you were to go on an extended holiday for a couple months, and have the money still go into your US bank account (just using US as an example, of course), then return to the US as your country of residence and pay taxes on that money there, you should be fine. I don't know if it would technically be illegal (talk to an accountant/lawyer for that info!) but it shouldn't bring up a big red flag with the tax man. However, if you were planning on travelling and LIVING in another country for a year or more at a time, you would still have to get the appropriate working visa and pay the appropriate taxes in that country. It is NOT worth the risk to ignore the tax issue.

Definitly a gamble, as manyroses said. If you really have your heart set on teaching/healthcare then any kind of adult work (non nude or not) isnt worth the risk. I think it's ridiculous but unfortunately w the technology these days it can be pretty easy for a company to see that you have cammed before, and trust me they don't care if you were fetish only or non nude!

Thanks everyone who chimed in def some food for thought. Neliana when you say it can be pretty easy for a company to see that I have cammed before, do you mean aside from someone finding out through just spotting me on a forum or tube site?
Re: would this hurt me pursuing a future career in healthcare
Umm I would say it depends on what exactly your looking to do. If you want to be a pediatrics doctor then camming might not be the best idea. But if you want to be a nurse for example I don't see it being a big deal.
I'm a bio major with the intent of going into the health field and I cam! It's worth it to me.
