Camming new articles: "Amateur Porn Really Can Pay the Bills"
Like the Dr. Phil / Lisa Ling thing, here's what you're going to be seeing a lot of. Prepare for the influx of lots & lots of new cam girls & cam couples here to stay...
LOL @ this: "... and made $300 in thirty minutes their first night." So they made $900 on streamate in 30 minutes ($300 after their cut)? LOL is all I have to say.

Yes, the earnings are EXTREMELY exaggerated, but this jobs still pays a lot more than most jobs out there. That's why I believe these new girls are here to stay. The "old" new girls we've seen on here that come & go are usually dancers or escorts in search of faster cash, and they quit camming right away because there's more and "faster" cash in dancing & escorting.

Like the preview. They look a sweet couple :)

Re: Camming new articles: "Amateur Porn Really Can Pay the Bills"
I see:
Sign ups side of things:
1. Them starting, freaking out that customers talk back, record, and can review you, and leave.
2. Them starting, having fast cash, getting lazy and sluggish as a result, barely sign on, and slowly unworking themselves out of the job
3. Them starting, not knowing how to hustle (ie, have no experience in sales or other forms of sex work) giving up everything for a very low price or free, getting resentful, burning out, and leaving
4. Them nervously starting because they would otherwise never be in the sex industry - get taken advantage of by a studio, brand new site, or a particularly slimy customer and end up leaving. May end up hating camgirls and will troll forums to relieve their frustration.
5. May start believing the customer & website are always right and other camgirls are just bitter and jaded... then develop into #3 or #4.
6. Them learning fast, hard, and putting in hours - and end up lasting in the industry longer term in some capacity (this IS likely and probably true of most who have a decent work ethic... we all heard about camming from somewhere. Being new =/= you havent thought it through or dont know what youre doing).
Studios:
1. Growing by the second to go in for the fresh meat kill. Probably will increase posting here.
2. Will charge even more exorbitant rates and aggressively advertise.
3. Will disappear with girl's funds since they dont know what theyre doing
Websites:
1. Offering more freebie / group / public chat features to accommodate the new recruits
2. Start paying less attention to their longterm models that earn them the most consistent $. Itll take them a few months to realize this is to their own peril after most of the signups leave and will start begging models to come back.
3. More new sites will pop up, fail, not pay, and then disappear.
4. Sites that are largely awful will get emboldened by the surge of signups, think they're great and disregard longer term models again to their own peril (what up ImLive)
Camgirls doing this for awhile:
1. Being just fine
2. Being frustrated by people giving up more for less, may see a dip in earnings on major sites. Most will use this as a signal to diversify their work output.
3. Will end up working harder on their own brand and expanding to work on other sites / more indie. They may start losing a sense of website loyalty.
4. May see more "you shouldnt cam if..." posts and more people naming names & posting girl's rooms.
5. Wear their duration in the industry like a badge of honor. Increase of infighting about what counts as a "veteran". Strangely and semi-hilariously only people working under a year will fall prey to this resentment.
6. Largely being just fine but may post less in open forums to discourage competition or b/c they're losing interest since other exp workers don't post as much either.
Customers:
1. Becoming more spoiled and irritating b/c their behavior is being enabled. But still capable of being blindsided by experienced hustlers.
2. Become disillusioned with this awful awful industry and will stop spending but will still spend hours on camsites & forums with a renewed vigor
3. May give each other advice on how finding "new fresh faces" means a lower price and better bang for your buck. Gullible signups will think this means they 'get' customers better than others but savvier new signups will use this to their advantage.
4. Guys who are patrons of camming (spending patrons) will start to hate the fly-by-night customers and will cling to their favorite models or start fighting freeloaders in rooms for being broke (hallelujah)
5. There will be an explosion in fetish traffic (hallelujah)
Amazon.com:
1. Will see a burst in sales (haha)

Re: Camming new articles: "Amateur Porn Really Can Pay the Bills"
maybe its just me but i don't think we are going to see any changes...a bunch of girls might rush to sign up but really...i don't think most of them will even finish the application. like once they realize this is a "real job" and it's tied to their real name and social security number. i think it will scare a lot away.
also..i don't know what they show in the whole episode..but since it was a couple most people will probably not realize they can perform solo.

Re: Camming new articles: "Amateur Porn Really Can Pay the Bills"
The difference between them and "us" is that we have the brains to be creative with this business to achieve success and longevity. Tho I wish that couple the best in success in camming, I don't see them lasting long in it. They will age and tire while and see the fast cash dwindle if they don't treat the biz as any professional career.

Right, I totally forgot about posts some girls were making in this year.
"How can I sign up for a cam site without giving them my real name? ;_________;"

I agree. Most people would be too ashamed to do this work. I'm not worried and none of you should be either. Plus, I think just about every adult looking for a job has seen the make 1000 a day ads already anyhow.
Look on the bright side ladies men will see this, get carious about it and have a look. Men are easier then women. God bless them;)

I said the same thing when some were panicking about the Dr.Phil episode when it initially aired. This job is just not easy enough for people to just flood the market. And I think a lot of people are forgetting about the stigma of it all. All of us pretty much have an "i don't give a fuck" attitude about the job. Most people don't. Most people care what their boyfriends, husbands, aunts, uncles, cousins, church members think and most aren't willing to bear that "shame". Hell I don't care that much but I don't want my mom to find out.
Plus it's not always easy to find a partner whose ok with our occupation. I mean how many "my boyfriend doesn't like my job" threads have been posted on here. Face it, a lot of girls would rather be broke and struggling and in love than independent, happy and alone. Not that you can't be happy and and in a relationship as a camgirl but you get what I'm saying.
I use the search function often and i'm always seeing some newbie camgirl with 25 or less posts who were excited about getting started and then they magically disappear. All those girls weren't dancers or escorts who went back to their jobs. Alot of them were girls who read the same $10000/month ads and got mad when they realized that being pretty wasn't enough and they actually had to hustle. The same thing happened in the strip clubs. When the recession first started, lots of girls flooded the market thinking they would make thousands a week. Then they got there and realized they weren't in a music video and that stripping is more sales than glamour. Did business suck for a minute? Absolutely. But all the true hustlers are still there getting their money.

Re: Camming new articles: "Amateur Porn Really Can Pay the Bills"
I just saw this on tv....I was at a guys house I am dating and it was on in the background but started paying attention to it. He lol'd over my interest in the adult industry. I wanted to confess and say, do you know how much I masturbate and get paid for it? Haha. Anyway, it was a short segment and basically the whole thing kind of irked me. ITS NOT THAT EASY, damn them.

See THAT'S what made me mad and worried! They made it seem EASY, like they have sex for an hour 3x a week and make over $1000. $1000 seems to be most full time cam girl's AIM per week. Most do not reach this number, it seems. And that's working the whole week, full time or almost full time.
But I'm afraid its going to LURE PEOPLE INTO THIS INDUSTRY who are like "WOW I CAN MAKE TONS OF MONEY HAVING SEX?!?" So they come into it with this attitude they can make tons, realize it takes SOOOO MUCH WORK, but stick with it making like $300 a week or something realistically because some money is better than no money. Not to mention they probably give most of it away for free on cam. Again, most people can't even get hired for a minimum wage job right now. Especially not a full time one. People are desperate and will take anything.

Re: Camming new articles: "Amateur Porn Really Can Pay the Bills"
Wow. I always get into stuff right before it booms. I agree that a lot of people aren't going to be able to hack it though.
I'm working more than full time right now, if you count my workout, shopping, photo work, and research/development. In fact, I'm never not working since I started this racket. I love it though, because it's all me, it's all money, and I really have nowhere else to go.
I really don't think everyone who's going to daydream about it is actually going to go for it, and many many fewer are going to have the perseverance to succeed.
Also, w00t, as of right now, I'm in first place at LJ in the trans category. I've proven to myself that I'm damn good at this, and it's time to branch way out.

Im not that worried about newbies LOL

Re: Camming new articles: "Amateur Porn Really Can Pay the Bills"
This was interesting, it's probably the 2-3rd newscast I've seen like this which goes to show the "band wagon" method is going on here. (In news, something often isn't newsworthy, if someone hasn't already covered it, then it's worth "trending.")
I'm not personally worried about competition, especially new girls. I've been a 'new girl,' and I failed horribly. I grew up, learned a bunch of shit, and now 'I'm back!' (I guess you can call me a 're-newed girl.' LOL)
Now for the...
Top 10 Reasons New Girls Fail:
1) Lack of motivation. (Support system matters A LOT, especially when you get started.)
2) Getting 'discovered.' (Someone they know finds them out, and they fall off the face of the earth.)
3) Life. (Shit happens. People get pregnant, go back to school, etc.)
4) Work Ethic.
5) Drama. (More often than not, of the 'online' variety.)
6) S.O./Family. (They don't like it, won't put up with it, so new girl quits.)
7) Stuck in the herd. (They can't find their own niche, so they bottom out.)
8) No personality. (Beauty is only skin deep.)
9) No sales skills.
10) Lack of Industry Knowledge
I can say half of the above has happened to me at some point or another. So I do have sympathy for new girls, but the good ones will make it through, then there's some that'll fail and come back later (like me), but the majority will never really try to begin with.

Re: Camming new articles: "Amateur Porn Really Can Pay the Bills"
heck, I've only been in the industry about 6 weeks and when I read this article, I thought 'what part of OZ does this writer live in? ' it's like any job. if you are looking to make a quick easy buck without having to work, you won't find it.
all jobs are work in some fashion. I just feel that the work involved in camming is a lot more fun and bearable than a lot of other jobs I've had. and btw- all of them were considered to be highly 'respectable' and 'intellectual' not all it's cracked up to be! give me a Horney guy on a sex caming site wanting to see some breasts over a P*ssed off office clerk mad that they didn't get their pen shipment ANY DAY!

Re: Camming new articles: "Amateur Porn Really Can Pay the Bills"
This is old... LOL it was on Dr. Phil awhile ago - this couple was anyways.

Re: Camming new articles: "Amateur Porn Really Can Pay the Bills"
^^^ Indeed. This couple have been floating around for ages....not sure if its just an older article, or if they are still at it, and still talking to the media about it.
However, I don't think that it's going to make a difference. The Dr Phil thing didn't. Honestly, I think that we overestimate the impact of this stuff sometimes - one article on a sex site isn't going to reach everyone, and of those that see it, there is still a HUGE taboo against this kind of work! I think that that is enough to discourage most people....

Yes, it's an old article. But they're still around and are supposed to be doing another new show soon.
I did see an influx after they were on tv-- a huge influx. It was almost like I could pick them out, when they started, as being people who were influenced by the promise of "easy money." Most of those people last between one night and two months, and then they are gone. Some last up to six months but are online less and less, sometimes as little as one hour per week.
I like to just peek into rooms for a minute if I see someone new. Sometimes you can tell, by the look on their faces, that they're not going to last one night. You can just tell that someone just typed "Your mama never loved you, stupid fat whore" or "Wanna watch me lick my dog's dick while rubbing pictures of a baby on my penis and pulling on my nipples clamps?" Anyway...
