Re: Tell Me What To Do...
For big projects I find it helpful to sit down and write up a business plan. Once you've done that figure out what you know how to do and what you don't know. If you are going to do it all yourself start reading, if you want to hire somebody start getting estimates. Take it one step at a time. A site can be used to drive traffic my site links to my c4s store, guys don't seem bothered by it so if you aren't ready to get your own payment processor, maybe that could be a solution.
Re: Tell Me What To Do...
Go with dreamhost for site hosting and domain - they were offering a wicked deal when i signed up (Hopefully still are), as they offer private hosting (none of your info shows up in whois.
This what I've learned (and currently putting into practise) so far:
Get a site
If your site is a paysite/ member subscription then great, you can open other sites/ social networking etc and just point everything at it
If not, then use your main site as promotion for where you make the most money (mfc, clips4sale etc) and use previews, pics, and info from that site to fill up your new website. Add a blog and talk about what you're doing on your main paysite regularly.
Open various networking sites/ other free websites/ promotion sites, and point them all at your website
For graphics you can use photoshop, gimp, or any other graphics editor. Some photohosting sites (i use photobucket for non nude) let you edit pics to some degree, which is the easy option if you can't get to grips with the more advanced editors.
As you go along, you'll get idea for new things you can do. But always focus on where you make the most money, and make all your sites/ internet efforts, about promoting that place.
Tadah!! :D
If this is all preaching to the choir to you then i apologise, but hopefully it helps xx
Re: Tell Me What To Do...
I'm in the process of building my own site as well. Bought a domain and now I'm working on several options for what to point my domain to. I'm trying out building my own with publisher, blogger, and wordpress. Haven't decided on one yet.
If you need help with graphics for banners, etc. I'm a graphic design student and would love to help you out with those. Send me a PM if you're interested and maybe we can chat on yahoo or something about the details.
Re: Tell Me What To Do...
I'll be starting with this stuff next year (it is my plan for 2012!) so I can't help you on the tech stuff, but as far as motivation and attitude go...I would go for small steps toward a clear end goal, so you don't get too overwhelmed.
Figure out what you want in the end. One single site? A site linked to phone, cam and c4s? A site linked to those as well as twitter/tumbler/fb/etc? A site that links into other major cam sites? What do you want to be offering? Straight up camming, or camming, voyeur, phone, messages, photo/video content? If you get a really clear picture of the end product, you will be better able to figure out how to get from where you are to where you want to be.
Then work out the most logical order to get stuff going - no point setting up a whole ton of social media if you have no where to direct people! Its like trying to network for banner exchanges when you have no traffic to your site at all - people need a payoff for them as well. And then tick items off that logical list one at a time.
Make sure you include financial planning - at what point are you going to leave each main cam site? At what point are you going to consider your personal site lucrative enough? How much do you want to earn, and what would you need to sell to get there?
Business plans can be the most boring things to write, but they are incredibly helpful in getting you to where you want to be.
Good luck!
Re: Tell Me What To Do...
I've been using Host Gator for all my site stuff for a few years now and love it. Ok I'll be honest my hubby does all the website stuff (self taught) so he would know more about it than me. I totally understand being in a funk that is where I was and still in the process of getting out of. Wishing you the best of luck on which ever way you go. Make it work the way you want it and it will.

I was looking into signing up with CCBill and they want a business name. I didn't want to use the name of my website because I think guys will hesitate to have an erotic based website name on their billing statement.
How did you get around this? Will they just let me use any low key more innocent sounding name I come up with or are they going to require a business license or some documentation?
Re: Tell Me What To Do...

I use a non-descriptive business name. I think on the form it says Business name or Doing Business As.. but when I applied for my EIN number I put my 'doing business as' name on my forms, which I sent into ccbill. So you don't have to use your site name if you don't want :)
They did not require a business license or any other documentation besides my EIN statement.
Re: Tell Me What To Do...
WELL, here's an update if anyone wanted one.
A friend of mine IRL bought me a domain, someone from here helped me set up hosting, I created my website, and someone else from here made me a few cute banners!
I set up Google Analytics last night, and this morning set up an auto twitter widget to automatically tweet my new posts when I publish them. Announcing my new site on Twitter this morning!
Re: Tell Me What To Do...
Ooh, I want that widget that auto-tweets new posts! Is it a blogger widget?
Re: Tell Me What To Do...
It's a wordpress widget! It did not work as well as I hoped, you have to sign up for some extra crap. There IS one I used to have waaaay back when, and it's like... auto tweet, or auto tweeter, or something like that.
