What I LOVE about dancing
Inspired by the thread "I miss."
Aside from the money....what do you love about dancing?
I love....
That feeling when all eyes are on me while I'm on stage.
Often being treated like a minor celebrity....being looked up to; it totally strokes my ego.
Being allowed to do pretty much whatever I want.
Having the freedom to NOT work very hard without worrying about being fired.
The empowerment of knowing I am 100% independent, using only my body as a money maker.
I feel as if I'm playing a role in the movement of feminism. I embrace my own sexuality and encourage other women to do the same.
In a less positive sense, it's my revenge against men.
It is FUN! I love dancing, laughing with cool customers and goofing around with the staff.

I just get tired of hearing "you wouldn't be here if you didn't have to be." I don't do anything I don't WANT to do. I enjoy dancing.
So what do you like about it?

Good for you on raising the positive vibration! ;D;D;D
I pretty much love the independence it brings. Independence is an extremely big deal to me. After house/tipout, my money is mine. Sure on slow nights, I despise still having to share my dough but it's the business of the beast.
I love going into work whenever I feel like it. I did the whole university and graduated thing, and I am so happy not to wake up at 6AM anymore. Getting my 'grades' marked down if I don't show up to class or am late. Not killing myself with going to bed at 3am finishing a presentation or proposal and hating unpaid or very little paid internships and externships. And then the inevitable BS of not finding a job in my degrees/fields right now with this economy.::)
Dancing is a huge break from that lifestyle. Even with its ups and downs, no other job brings me such good money potential paired with so much freedom.
I am also a huge burlesque/rockabilly siren so I get to incorporate that into my dancing persona. I grew up in a culture that embraces Carnival-esque themes. My country shuts down for a week for masquerade and Carnival. I like looking like I just stepped out of a 1950's pinup poster and even days that I don't feel like dressing up, I can go to work with just some lipgloss. I save the pinup girl for a huge club and the lipgloss for dives.
Finally, I love the actual dance part. I've always been really big into dance and my moment on stage is really mine alone. I can work out stress and tension through dancing. Some people do art therapy, music therapy, and dance is my therapy. I don't care about being nude or topless (I'm from the Caribbean where nudity/less clothes is the norm) so that's not an issue for me.
Those things make my job easier but they don't make the job EASY. I have my GF to thank for that. She is a killer salesperson and she is a HUGE reason why I haven't quit. Dancing at the end of the day, is a sales job! But it's nice to have components we can appreciate about it to overshadow the shitty parts. ;)
Re: What I LOVE about dancing
Sometimes, I meet really cool people whom I would never even consider interacting with OTC.
Re: What I LOVE about dancing
Here are some things I love about dancing:
Working with my best friends in the world.
Impressing men and making women uncomfortable and infuriated, lol.
Working amongst nudity.
Becoming one with certain songs on stage.
^In that process, expressing things that I could never express through words.
Getting complimented on my dancing and pole work...I secretly want people in the club to judge me for my actual dancing instead of for the way I look, so when that does happen it is the most validating experience in the world.
Oh, and lets not forget...drinking on the job! Getting paid to be a lush is an alcoholic's dream=D
Re: What I LOVE about dancing
I can't believe I forgot about drinking on the job!!! Awesome wrapped up in sexy awesomeness. I try not to get too drunk, but hey, nothin wrong with having a good time!
My alcohol tolerance has seriously gotten high since I started at this club, where customers have been especially generous with buying us drinks. I can drink top shelf liquor all night and barely have a buzz. :/
Anyway. I loooove being unique and bringing something different to the club, so rocking the burlesque style is something I really enjoy. On weekends I like dancing to Joan Jett, Jane's Addiction and Deftones, all while dressed in punk getup. I love it when guys compliment me on how I don't look like the other girls. :D although sometimes it loses me money, depending on the crowd.
My husband and I are happily married, but he's the only man I've ever been with and this sometimes satisfies my sexual curiosity. I don't have sex at work, obviously, but just being wanted by other men and giving into it (a little) secures my natural desire to explore myself sexually without breaking the boundaries of my marriage. Also, on that note, my husband knows that I enjoy dancing for this reason and totally supports and trusts me, which does a lot to strengthen the bond I have with him......just to counter-argue all who say dancing will destroy relationships.
Re: What I LOVE about dancing
I love the freedom this job gives me, I can work when and wherever I want to.

Re: What I LOVE about dancing
I love being on stage, and being complimented on my show, having people clap and cheer when my set is done.
I love talking to so many people -- men and women, customers and other dancers -- that I would never have encountered anywhere else.
I love all the crazy stories I'm collecting.
I love that I feel brave, independent, and self-sufficient. I don't answer to anyone but myself anymore.
I even love the school of hard knocks aspect of it. This job is teaching me to be tough, confident, and unwilling to let others waste my time. I was such a doormat before I started dancing.

This! The freedom to drink/relax, the music (funilly enough I dance to Joan Jett and Deftones, too) and the opportunity to 'flirt' while in a relationship (although i'm not married, but i'd say dancing helps keep me from flirting/straying otc)

<<I feel as if I'm playing a role in the movement of feminism>>
Exactly. People -- who don't know what they are talking about -- say it's demeaning -- f that. The power I feel onstage, and in taking the money, means I'm in charge.
Re: What I LOVE about dancing
Great thread topic!
Love the stories.
Love it that if you ever need a job or get laid-off, there will be a job available at the strip club!
Love it that the flexibility of it and money (despite the shitty days and that the money certainly didn't come very easily) enabled me to live independently, live my own life, figure out my own life, when I had nobody to support me and wanted to live on my own. I couldn't have done this or lived as well with a shitty retail job. I wouldn't have had as much fun. I would have had to counted my pennnnnnniiiiiies with a retail job. Experienced that before and it was so stressful i'd probably have grey hair by now.
Loved it that I learned a lot of life lessons from it, though they werent pleasant lessons but they had to be learned...and better for it to be learned early in life rather than when i'm older. Get that heartbreak out of the way sooner than later!
Re: What I LOVE about dancing
i confess im worn out enough not to really think of anything or identify with those listed.
i guess i like to not work hard and not get fired and make money too.
and the meaner men are to me at the club the nicer i pay myself with their wallet
Re: What I LOVE about dancing
The other night, some douchebag tried to pull back my thong and finger me while I was on stage. I backhanded the shit out of him, so hard I saw his head twist.
I love that I'm not facing assault charges.
Re: What I LOVE about dancing
a job were you can dress sexey... get naked party and have men and women watch you .... and it's all about you .. come on now it's every girl's fantasy ... just the real smart one's give it a chance to live the fantasy....
Re: What I LOVE about dancing
....The cha-ching, the flexibility & the fact that I can arrive in another city and have a job more or less the same/next night.
Re: What I LOVE about dancing
Agreed. One of the best aspects of this job is I can pack up and go pretty much any time
