My real job know about my stripping job...
So I have a job at a cafe and I also work in a strip club as well. To everybody at the cafe, I always said I had a weekend job at a hotel to explain why I never worked weekends.
Anyways, so I hear today that everybody at the cafe knows I'm a stripper. A couple of my close friends knew that work there but would never tell but my boss came in this morning and said to my friend "You know about aussiebelle, she's a stripper..." and my friend was like 'yeah maybe' (I wasn't there she text me to tell me). Apparently one of the regular customers saw me there and told everybody and now it's spreading like wildfire, some of the people I work with believe it and some don't.
I don't know what to do. I'm working tomorrow and I'm so scared what will happen. I can't stop crying. I'm not ashamed of stripping, I just hate all these bitchy, judgmental people knowing that don't care about me and just want to gossip and be negative. I'm so nervous of going to work tomorrow, I'm scared of bursting into tears in front of everybody and I'm just scared because I don't know what's going to happen.
I'm planning on just denying it and pretending I don't know what everybody is talking about. I just don't know what to do.. :'(
Re: My real job know about my stripping job...
oh man this sucks. i totally empathize with you on this one. maybe it'd be best to call ahead? you could either fess up and say you want to know if you still have a job there or you could deny it, and have more looky loos coming to see if its true at the club.
Re: My real job know about my stripping job...
Thanks babe.
They won't fire me for it, plus I'm planning on quitting there soon anyways so I suppose that's at least one positive.
I just hate that I know everybody is talking about me behind my back. I'm just hoping nobody says anything to my face and if they do I'm just going to deny and say I have no idea what they are talking about. One of my best friends who knows is working there tomorrow and she will totally stand up for me if anybody says anything but I'm just mainly scared that I'll start crying and that's the last thing I want to do.
Also you're right about the looky loos, yeah can't wait for that...::) thanks for listening to my rant too, helps to vent
Re: My real job know about my stripping job...
I always said "gosh Im flattered that you think Im hot enough to strip" *blush*
and evade without denying :))
Re: My real job know about my stripping job...
That's an awesome line! I don't know I'll have the balls to pull it off though. I'm really dreading tomorrow. I just hope nobody says anything, some new drama comes up and everybody forgets lol
Re: My real job know about my stripping job...
i live in a very small town and even though i drove nearly an hour for work, people still found out when i was dancing. its an inevitable part of life that people talk. i have found that theres about two conversations that i can have about this ...one where i can tell theyre fishing for info to see if the rumors were true and i feel awkward(when i lied). or one where i just said at such and such (club name) and then they feel awkward (lol) it makes me feel like i have more power over it when its not a huge secret
i want to add that i do not have close family so im sure this changes my view on open-ness about this subject
Re: My real job know about my stripping job...
Its only a big deal if you make it a big deal. If they say anything, just shrug it off. Yeah, you dance, so what? It sucks though <3
Re: My real job know about my stripping job...
Thanks girls.
I know I just have to stay strong. I'll post how it goes tomorrow but fingers crossed I can just keep my head high and laugh it off.
Re: My real job know about my stripping job...
I agree with Charlotte. Just shrug it off. I would say "has it affected my performance here? No?ok."
Alot of people in my regular job have found out about my dancing and it was awkward in the beginning but it hasnt changed anything because Im still one of the best at my company and have still moved up despite my second job. At most, people will just be curious and you will get more questions. The people who dont approve will just probably avoid you totally anyway. The way I see it, as long as it doesnt affect my work, Im good.
Re: My real job know about my stripping job...
I would shrug it off too. My response would be "So what, I strip?! And??"
It's legal and it pays the bills. If you make it a big deal, then it will be a big deal.
Re: My real job know about my stripping job...
Ah, keep your head up lady. The worse that could happen is that people ask you about it (I love sexy_celeste's response). Other than that, you said you were quitting soon so no love lost. You know who you are and you know the content of your character so what other people have to say based on what for all they know is a RUMOR is meaningless.
Screw that "regular" though. WTF possess him to walk in and be all "Hurr duuuuurrrr I've seen her naked derp derp derp!" There's only one thing he could have gotten out of that and the fact that he even wanted it indicates that he's nothing but a big fat loser.
Re: My real job know about my stripping job...
Thanks for all your advice ladies.
I went into work, kept my head held high and just acted confident. It really wasn't as bad as I had made out in my head. Nobody said anything to me even though I know everybody wanted to. I just kept telling myself that I can make more in a night than they all make in a week haha
Re: My real job know about my stripping job...
Get to a point in your life where it is okay that people are talking behind your back because no matter what you do there are alwayyyyss going to be people criticizing you. Thats how I view myself dancing, if it's not going to get me fired at my day job or affect me at school then anyone can talk about me I really don't care because they are probably hating that they don't have the guts to do it. People will hate on anyone no matter what.
Re: My real job know about my stripping job...
You are just a stripper, not a criminal. You worked hard for that money. Don't be afraid! Don't act any different or say anything unusual. Don't let people bully you, be a tough kitty

I'm sorry this happened to you, I would just deny it, or own up to it. Like "So what? I strip! I have no shame." And you shouldn't have shame in this. You are making money, you are not a prostitute or a drug dealer. You are an excellent sales person.
Re: My real job know about my stripping job...
In the end their opinions don't make a damn bc you are making more money than they are. Some of them are envious they don't have the confidence to dance and make whatever money you are making from dancing.
Small towns are terrible for gossiping, as I can personally attest to.
Re: My real job know about my stripping job...
I've lost 2 jobs back in 2008 because movie theater the manager was a former client and couldn't handle and figured he would out me. the call centre job that runs a late night singles chatline also a phone sex company co-worker decides to go to my website on the lunch room computer.
They talk about you behind your back because they don't have the balls to say it to your face. you have to really ignore it. Sure your going to cry about it but you can control what people do or say you can only control how you react to them.
You plan on quitting so do your work and keep to yourself. honestly they didn't need to explain to them why you don't work weekends. you have other responsibilities and leave it at that.
People seem to mix up that your co-workers are not your friends. so its actually safer not to socialize with them at all. your there to do your job and get your paycheck.
people that have time to gossip really have nothing else better going on in their lives.
