Which comic con? There are lots of them! I can't think of any that are 100% adult oriented but many of them allow adult oriented comics or women who have been in adult comics or comic movies to promote, but they're definitely "boobs and butts on promotional material must be covered up"
OOOO i want to go to some conventions!
Don't forget Adultcon, i have only done the LA shows, not vegas version. It is by the far the most profitable convention i have ever done. I used to get my own booth and work the whole show all three days. And i banked. It paid me more than doing porn scenes to go to adultcon for the day. And fans would not only buy tons of merch, they brought me gifts off my amazon wishlist in person. I haven't been in LA for the last few adultcons so i can't speak for how good it is now. I highly recommend trying this show. It helps to share your booth with a hot friend. Extra ladies draw crowds and more money.
Does Adultcon (or conventions in general) pay you to appear and work the whole day/show, or do you just solely make money off selling merchandise? (And yes, I'm aware either way you'd need a pretty strong following to even be considered I'm sure). I've always been curious about that.
some conventions pay you to appear. Exxxotica and AVN AE Expo exhibiting companies hire models to work at their booths for the day. this pays around $500 a day on average. bigger name models can command $1000 per day. however in recent years exxxotica and avn both allow models to rent their own booth space in addition to having big name companies. this is because so many porn companies have gone out of business and they need full booths to make the shows look fuller and busier. those independent models have to make their money selling merch, polaroids, autographs, panties etc. whatever it is they have with their mug on it. it can be hard for those indie models to bank because the women being hired by big name companies aren't charging for autographs and photos. they are being paid already for their time there.
Adultcon is more model oriented and has more solo girl booths than company booths. it costs around $100-200 per 3 day convention to rent the booth depending on how early on you reserve your space. i first did adultcon in 2005 when it was very small. i did it every year twice a year until september 2010. the first showi made around $500 a day selling merch and taking photos with fans. by the 2nd adultcon i had gotten the hang of it. i had all the merch i could possibly need because i always sold out. i made sure i was stocked on polaroids and dvds. and i sold more fan photos than anything because i only charged $5 per pic. each fan who enters adultcon has a $5 poker chip they can use to pay you for anything. i cashed thousands in chips each convention. other models were charging $10 or $15 for photos with them and didn't get these chips. these poker chips were the bread and butter of the show.
granted i did work in porn for 5 years, so there was a recognition factor that went into doing well at adultcon. but i saw models there who did very well also. they were friendly and dressed skimpy. being friendly goes a long way. it can be hard to walk into a convention and smile and be "on" when you don't know what you're going to earn for the day. but the bitchy models made nothing, even when they were famous porn stars.
I wish I could go...won't be seeing those down in the Bible Belt though. :((
^ well I'm up in Canada but I want to go to the ones in Vegas. I REALLY want to do Exxxotica this year. But I don't feel famous enough to do much good with my own booth.
I'd love to go, but everything is always so far away from me. :(
Can you add like links to the main thread?
Yeah, I would love to go, but I'm kinda super shy in real life, I don't know if I'd be able to do it lol
DomCon -- There's one in ATL & LA (Hoping to do the one in LA this year.)
Folsom St Fair (SF) -- This one is in March and it's huge with the LGBT community. I don't know if you can do booths or not, but this is an option.
Fetcon -- Tampa, First Week of August (Going to try to hit this too!)
AVN Expo -- Trying to make this for January along with CES (non-adult con).
And SDCC (ComicCon) doesn't do adult, unless you're "famous porn star" looking to go mainstream.

There's a lot of other options besides being a vendor (Seller) at a con. If you're willing to work as talent for other studios (re: content producers), then you can advertise your attendance and possibly shoot that weekend. You can also possibly book sessions as a model/domme/whatever the same way. This also lets you network with a shit TON of people you might never have met even through the internet. (You'd be surprised the connections you can make at events like these.)
However, cons are more for those looking to enhance skills (if you want to learn to Domme, go to cons, get some books, or join a local bdsm group) or those looking to make a career out of this. Though if you're touring (like I will be) they can potentially offset the expense of that.
Yeah, but there's a huge bdsm component in there (gay leather), so those that are in my side of the trade (or cater to a gay male audience) would probably be able to find work around that time at least doing private sessions or shoots.
Same reason all the escorts come to NOLA during convention season, there's a ton of guys without their wives who can afford their services.
I totally get what you're saying, but I wouldn't recommend most of these cons to people are who aren't SERIOUS about getting into the bdsm/fetish scene.
Personally, I find that most of my guys that I play with are either lifestylists or hardcore fetishists. And as a lifestylist myself, I figure that an equal mix of work and play would do good.
adultcon is great! glamourcon is kind of cost prohibitive unless you have sponsors..
another good one is nudes a poppin in indiana...
you can google is or the ponderosa sun club...
