Re: The Dive Hustle Thread
This is all so spot on.
I really don't have much to add, except that making an effort to be nice to the club furniture (the regulars that never buy dances but know everyone there) is important in my club. These guys rarely or never buy dances, but they love to give opinions on the women who work there to anyone who will listen. It's worth a quick hug and two minute conversation to keep on their good side.
Re: The Dive Hustle Thread
^ Oooh, good one!
And LOL to "club furniture." Love it!!!
Re: The Dive Hustle Thread
All great tips. I especially liked the point about keeping your energy level up and smiling. A lot of times, dives have this dead air to them. It's like walking into the twilight zone. The dancers have blank, zombie-like expressions. Everyone looks miserable. A little life in the place is quite refreshing.
I'd want to add: Don't get lazy. Keep up your appearance. The other girls may be fat, no makeup, or wear worn-out outfits, but continue to put in the effort and keep yourself together. It will certainly pay off.
You'll probably get a lot of, "What are YOU doing HERE?" Being a big fish in a small pond is fun sometimes, but do not - I repeat, DO NOT get a big head. Don't be a diva!
Re: The Dive Hustle Thread
Wow this is a great thread!! Its hard to escape dives I think in Michigan, Indiana, Ohio once you get away from the major city(s). The dead air is right-on sometimes. I have noticed if its not a Saturday night, where I am from, the wannadance hustle is an epic fail. The rock n roll is right on, the old guys/ townie people love it in general- tom petty, pink floyd. sometimes gets old but it works. Their eyes light up and turn green for money ahah. What do you find gives more life, in particular to combat this "dead air"?? Ive told jokes, done tarot cards, just things to pass the time and make them feel special.

I was waiting to hear this because it's a big deal. Never be catty about it and always be friendly. Acting like a lady in a dive will set you apart and get you less offers for prostitution!
I would also say approaching every single person in the club is good business for a dive. Always be pleasant and professional, even if it's someone who the other girls say "doesn't buy dances" or if it's someone else's regular or whoever (a lady/couple/etc). I am not saying to approach a known regular and ask for dances, but just chat and be nice if they're not sitting with their dancer. Be on good terms with everyone. At dive clubs often girls will get in the habit of ignoring certain customers (see the sticky at the top of hustle hut about customer service where a stripper couldn't give away her $100+ because she was ignored). $20, $40, $100, etc might not be considered a lot by some but it's more lucrative then sitting at the bar or in the DR or complaining that there is "no money."
Also some dives don't have CR or VIP rooms so you can try selling blocks of time in the lap dance area especially if you don't have to pay the house for dances. Telling a guy he can get you alone for 20 minutes for say $80 or $100 (20 min = 4-7 songs = $80-$140) can be lucrative and with the seemless dancing (not stopping every song) might make the momentum enough to sell more dances after that.
Re: The Dive Hustle Thread
I had made some mad money in dives, but they're also very hit or miss when it comes to money. I had walked with less than 60 bucks one night, just to make over 600 the next one.
They are actually fun places to work at, with little competition.
Re: The Dive Hustle Thread
Re: The Dive Hustle Thread
I never knew what I dive was! That's what I work in. I was wondering if I just sucked and should give up :p It's only been four months! Lucky I'm moving to NYC. Dives do not seem good for me.
Re: The Dive Hustle Thread
Aught, this is so what I was looking for! My new club is a dive and I totally couldn't figure out the different hustle my first night. Def reading this throughout my shift!
Re: The Dive Hustle Thread
A couple I just thought of...
In dives, you really need to be able to evaluate how much time / effort to spend on customers depending on how many other prospective spenders there are in the club. If the guy you're sitting with is a bit of a pain in the ass, buys two dances, and then wants to "talk for a few minutes," then if there are no other spenders in the club, you should probably invest more energy into him (unless he's killing your mood for the night). There's nothing worse than doing two dances with a guy, deciding to move on, and then watching the next girl spend two hours in the CR with him after talking him up for ten minutes. It's a bit of a gamble.
You also need to know when to dump regulars. I had a regular who came to see me every night I worked for about two years, and he'd spend $2-300 every time (which was a godsend during the depths of the recession). Yet it got to a point where he was such an energy suck that he could ruin an entire night for me. Sure, I'd make a couple hundred bucks guaranteed, but how much money did I lose when my attitude switched because of him? You have to know when to end it.
Re: The Dive Hustle Thread
shit, i find it very difficult to make over 200 at my club. i wish i had a regular to dump 2-300$ on me nightly!
90% of our customers are young guys who come in to drink and not spend money because they are broke or don't want to spend money. really hard for me in this town. it's kind of an inside joke in my club to go to the hispanics that pretend they don't speak english for dances when we are REALLY desperate. they will always buy one guaranteed dance--but they're annoying and touchy and persistently try to ask "how much for everything?" annoying.
none of this was relevent lol

Let me guess "Cuanto para el sexo?" lol? Some Mexicans are cool as shit, though. I have a couple of good regs up here that spend money and don't try anything much beyond ass grabbing. I was very assertive with them from the beginning though.

Than tell the truth be a bitch .... siriously sometimes it works wonders. Tell them wtf are they pretending like they cant speak ENG? Tell them u dont believe them at all:D Maybe they would stop.
Re: The Dive Hustle Thread
Here's an interesting thing...if you overdress in a dive, you could lose out on money. If you look megahot and majorly well put together, that can actually be a turnoff for guys because you can look too intimidating. This is a fine line to walk. But I would work with girls occasionally who were just perfectly composed, and because I looked and acted more approachable, I'd almost always walk out with more money.
Not saying you should go the grunge route, but it's something to think about.
Re: The Dive Hustle Thread
Also it's a bonus if you stand out in that particular dive club, example(I've got an alternative look that I go for but I don't go overboard with it, I stick with cutesy pink bikinis and cute hair accesories hello kitty, etc) they eat it up :) Plus sometimes I'll fake a russian accent & thats worked 9 times out of 10 LOL

Re: The Dive Hustle Thread
Agreed with try not to look TOO HOT
It can backfire! And if you are very attractive, smile and be even more personable!
Re: The Dive Hustle Thread
^ lol so true. I stopped wearing makeup and only wear fake lashes. I also put my hair up in a ponytail and ever since I started doing that my money went up lol
Re: The Dive Hustle Thread
These are some great tips. I used to work in a really rural area club where everyone relied on regulars.
