Re: The Dumpster Diving Thread
Yeah, I wouldn't serve people food even if it was shrink wrapped without giving them the lowdown on where it came from, since it seems kind of disrespectful to not give them the choice. However, wrapped and dated food that's good for my dogs, and cold if it's meat or eggs goes to them; they rarely get pork, but if it's pork or something that is about to expire, then it gets cooked and fed to them. I have a huge spaghetti pot that I've filled with odds and ends from veggies I've been cutting up the last few days, and then I cooked and dumped in ground beef and pork that was still within date, plus the leftover turkey drippings from Christmas dinner. They both went ape for their meat mash.
I did find a cricut expression 2 today (it's a fancy craft printer) but I just need to find a power cord for it (which should be easy since it looks like it uses a standard power cord) to see if it works. Maybe it doesn't work, but then again, maybe it does.
I also found a new in box helicopter toy with a remote control, so that's going to my boyfriend as a present in a few days.
You just have to slowly start scoping out good dumpsters, occasionally hitting them on different days to see if you can catch "good days", and then keeping a rough idea of when trash comes.
It is pretty amazing how much food gets dumped though. I once saw a dumpster that was seriously half full of eggs in cartons. There wasn't anything wrong with them; they'd just had a fresh delivery (I'm assuming for the month) though so whatever hadn't gotten sold got trashed. I grabbed two cartons for the dogs but left the rest and was rather disgusted about it. Another time, I skipped a couple days from checking this one dumpster and when I checked it, it was seriously chock full to overflowing with meat that was close to it's expiration date and shrink wrapped. I was pissed because I could have processed that for my dogs.
If you are going to grab food, definitely grab what's shrink wrapped if not double-bagged. Look for expiration dates and holes. Wash it in bleach water or soap it up and wash it down, and then if it's something like veggies or fruits, unwrap and process it then-- washing, cutting, cooking or freezing. If it's meat, or something that's temperature sensitive, feel how cold it is and when it comes to times of the year like summer time, bypass it completely.
It's funny to talk about this on a stripper website. I mean, because at any time we have the capability to more than buy groceries from the store. But being a night owl, liking to drive, and having a nosy nature this works out great for me-- especially when it comes to clothes, like the nearly new ambercrombie and fitch sweatpants and shirts I grabbed a week ago.

Military bases are also great places. So many people coming and going. When I was in Pensacola, I scored lots of super cute shoes and pajamas that some girl left and the building manager threw in the dumpster.
Re: The Dumpster Diving Thread
Yeah, I've heard about bases being good. My boyfriend used to live in the barracks and told me about the awesome stuff people would throw out.
End of semester at college apartments/dorms are a good bet too.
Re: The Dumpster Diving Thread
Hey I realize this is an old thread but I like dumpster diving a lot. and just because we have the opportunity to live up to our stripper money capacity, doesnt mean we choose to. Or, if you do this as a socially conscious thing and donate your findings to local pantries. I have been finding friends to do this with in my new town and last night they scored 3 car fulls of frozen food. Just doesnt make sense in this country, when they are so stingy with governtment help, the amount of perfectly good boxed, wrapped and unexpired stuff thrown out every day..
