Different music genres = more or less money
Man, I don't know if its just because I am a blonde haired blue eyed girl who's cam persona has that dumb high-pitched voice and of course I play up my southern twang for that whole dumb blonde appeal. (Yeah I know I don't HAVE to market myself like this lol) But I can hardly keep anyone in my room if I am playing the kind of music I ACTUALLY listen to... back to Kesha and Bassnectar it is.. lol anyone else have this issue with listening to certain kinds of music?

Re: Different music genres = more or less money
Oh and totally unrelated but I had my FIRST CUTE-guy cam2cam tonight and I swear he almost had me blushing! lol!
-
Re: Different music genres = more or less money
Same with me lol, I love southern rap but if I play it in my room people sit there and critique the music/complain about the music and don't take me private. Im not a blonde white girl but I have a girl next door look. So I know how you feel lol, I can only play generic sounding dance music, Britney Spears, Kesha etc.

Re: Different music genres = more or less money
Girl thats my EXACT issue is me and my southern rap! Whats a girl to do without her DSR?! lol
-
Re: Different music genres = more or less money
I put pandora on the Avenged Sevenfold and Hollywood Undead channels. They can take it or leave, they usually take it. Plus I keep the volume low enough that it's just barely audible on cam

Lol! I dont know! I hate it, dance music is Ok but it's not my favorite, I just keep the volume down and use it as backround noise. My man told me that most men don't wanna hear "aggressive" rap while they're trying to jerk off. It worked for me in the strip club but I guess that's a whole different thing then camming...

Re: Different music genres = more or less money
I put on Pandora as well, and I play a lot of grunge and alternative. My custy's eat that shit up!

Re: Different music genres = more or less money
Oh Lord - I could never cam to Kesha! Lol
I'm fairly heavily tattooed, and I think that has a lot to do with the guys I attract. I will almost always be playing some kind of metal, hair metal or occasionally punk in my room. Very occasionally I'll have something like Amy Winehouse - one of those random "others" that I enjoy. My guys LOVE it...I end up in convos and getting tipped because of my guitars, or talking about random swedish metal bands...it keeps me going because I am enjoying myself, not putting on a fake persona. And my guys love the fact that I am a nerdy metalhead. : )
That said, I do tend to make more money with hair metal, metallica, and the bands that are more "rock metals"...that have almost a nickleback (vomit) type feel sometimes. When I'm listening to really crazy crunchy drum-heavy metal I make a lot less. I also make decent money to Irish Punk bands (flogging molly, dreadnoughts, dropkick) because its really energetic and people comment about how Irish I look (I am actually part Irish. And I have red hair and incredibly pale skin.) and how much they love it.
I say - listen to what you love, and find the best money maker in that genre...don't subject your poor ears to poppy dross if it ain't making you happy!

Re: Different music genres = more or less money
I don't think its really about a fake persona..Im sure metal/rock/rap work for plenty of girls, but I have a very "innocent" look, no tats, all natural w small boobs, so me sitting there in all pink smiling doesn't go with rap lol. When I used to play music I liked it always seemed to direct the conversation away from private shows and "sexy time", and the guys just wanted to talk about songs, request songs or argue with me about my "ghetto" music. I don't mind being stuck listening to Britney all day if that's what gets the guys in my room to spend and focus on me!

Re: Different music genres = more or less money
I loooove surf rock, and I've got a couple stations on pandora for my favorite surf rock bands. Been kind of dreading when I actually start camming, because I'm sure some jackass is going to comment on it. So I've got some more generic stuff there as well. But, it's good to hear that some guys don't care about what you've got playing.

Re: Different music genres = more or less money
I get more action when I play my Metallica or Alice In Chains stations. Luckily, I like those bands. But there have been days where I've wanted to listen to more of my type of music which can aptly be summed up as "clicks and whistles" (I REALLY like Aphex Twin) and...yeah.
Works if I turn it down so that only I can hear it. :) I look weird dancing to what they think is silence, but oh well.

Re: Different music genres = more or less money
I try to play music that goes with the theme of the night. If I spike up my mohawk, I'll play The Clash or Fucked Up or Leftover Crack, because that's the sort of music that guys expect the punk chick to listen to. If I'm all gothed out I'll play Bauhaus, The Cure, Siouxsie, etc. If I've got my little bob wig on and my garters I'll put on big band music like Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Glenn Miller, and Squirrel Nut Zippers. Usually what sort of music I feel like listening to is what determines my entire style for my show. Sometimes I end up playing music that isn't my favorite but goes into the genre that I'm doing because it perpetuates the image that I'm going for. Ramones is the best example I can think of off the top of my head.
I never play music I hate, because a; my customers know me better than that, and b; I'd be miserable having to listen to it.

Re: Different music genres = more or less money
I listen to all kinds of music in real life, same with cam life. I go from pop to classic rock, to dub, to electro, to death metal, to blues and the list goes on...it all depends on my mood.
I have been TIPPED just becasue I play different music from most girls, like the blues.
Most girls only play dance/pop/etc and guys really do not like this kind of music. They will tolerate it but I am sure the dude that spends money does not have kesha on his ipod. It does not translate, guys do not think "glitter on the floor" is "hardkore" lol. Guys would rather watch you play whilst listening to GWAR in the background...try it. Try to play a different kind of music and see what happens.
I see that the music I play definately brings in different crowds, it doesn't necessarily effect money, but a certain music will bring a certain crowd, for the most part.
When I play my blues, classic rock and metal as metallica, iron maiden, slayer, etc I attract older men in their mid 30's who IMHO are bigger spenders then the young and dumb mid early 20's crowd that comes with playing RAP. If you play rap, pop, "younger music from 2011" you will more then likely attact the younger crowd with less disposable income. If you pick "older music" you will get an older crowd and leave the 20 somethings dumbfounded.
Tonight my background noise of choice was OLDSKOOL Marilyn Manson for my black friday special (how fitting) most of the guys had no clue who it was but seemed very amused when I told them. Some of them didnt even know they were manson fans until tonight}:D Shame on me playing "cake and sodomy" for them and singing along hahaha.

Re: Different music genres = more or less money
I don't like rap music at all but I listen to a lot of techno types which I would never dare to play on cam. It's not sexy. lol. I put on Pandora and often play Goldfrapp or Portishead which I usually get a good source of music and no one complains. Probably because it reminds me of sexy european 'peep show' music.
-
Re: Different music genres = more or less money
Guys of all ages seem to go crazy for soft electro like goldfrapp. LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! My camming career has not been the same since i started my goldfrapp station on pandora.

Re: Different music genres = more or less money

Re: Different music genres = more or less money
I don't think it really matters myself...I mean I think it just matters how you work with it.
My point is...you said your very innocent looking so it doesn't work well when you listen to heavier stuff.
However...I am so not innocent looking. And I just be myself. Which is unfortunately sparatic. I like almost all music so they've came in at times with like...air supply playing . It shocks em for a moment to say the least. But I am not a predictable person...therefore I don't want my music to be either...I'd get bored.
And as a guy why wouldn't they get bored to. I say this only because most of mine are "fans" I've picked up over the years. So they are there to hangout alot.Like daily...
I have tried to look innocent tho. Like last night I dressed up all in pink. White thigh highs with cute little pink bows. Pink bra and panties with hearts on em.
And I still got called a goth girl
But sometimes I'm punk
Sometimes I'm emo
Sometimes I'm pinup
I don't think they really fuckin know what I am...that amuses me to lol
But maybe that's why I get away with strange things, cuz they don't really know what to make of me

Re: Different music genres = more or less money
Haha I love this post :) I always change up my style, and every day I come in dressed completely differently, and the music will change with my style that day. One day I came in kind of dressed up in rocker clothes, and danced to my rocker music. Next day I'm wearing some cowgirl boots and a brown dress with some cute panties and singing my country music. Then yesterday my boyfriend was over, so I wasn't too worried and let him pick, and ended up wearing a shirt with a winky face on it and listening to old bands like Chicago, Earth wind and fire, and blood sweat and tears. I have no idea what style I am, and I love it :)

Re: Different music genres = more or less money
Yes i find music really has an effect. My guys do NOT like dance or house, music at all. I don't either but sometimes i listen to it to get me energised and worked up. They seem to prefer when i listen to rock or something totally random.

Re: Different music genres = more or less money
I don't know why I didn't say this earlier, but Weird Al never does me wrong.

Just a side note - sometimes its a good thing to play with juxtaposition, and challenging assumptions and stereotypes! You may find that it catches guys attention far more if you are pretty in pink and listening to hardcore gangsta rap, or if you look like a total barbie bimbo and are talking about quantum physics - it makes you interesting, different and attention grabbing. Surprising guys automatically engages them just that little bit more.
Obviously, if you LOVE girly pop, and you look like Barbie, awesome. If you look like a raging punk and love listening to punk, also awesome! But don't assume that you have to fit every aspect of a specific "look" in order to make money. I just couldn't work to music I don't love!
I think that almost everyone listens to a bit of a range, and the most appropriate thing to do is to find which sub-genres/bands in that range make you the most money, and stick with them if you are really concerned about it, rather than listen to something that you wouldn't listen to otherwise.
And I absolutely agree with the girls that let their music set their theme!! Over halloween, I was playing my "halloween playlist" and spent a couple nights in a corset & fishnets listening to the rocky horror picture show soundtrack! ;D I love playing with both matching my clothing to my shows, and doing the opposite - listening to Job For A Cowboy while wearing cutesy pink cupcake lingerie!

Re: Different music genres = more or less money
Yall are awesome. I love the ideas of themed music! Last night I was very Barbie looking so I guess thats why the Kesha and trancey-techno worked for me. I have long blonde hair and blue eyes but with tattoos and dark make-up so I could go either way. Some say I look naughty, some say nice. I love girly pop music just as much as I love Incubus (okay maybe thats exaggerating... hmmm Incubus pandora sounds like a good idea... with Sublime on the side?? Maybe I'll go try it..)
I don't know what I would've done going from a studio to SM without you guys! :)
