Yep...saw that earlier. Love the part where they say it is ok if a funeral. So, they have to be dead for them to be accepted??? Fidiots.......
The church I went to when I was younger was just like this. It's awful.
All of the problems and issues going on in this world, and some people are still worrying about race mixing. Seriously?
I had a friend who belonged to a church like this and there are still churches that think black people are below white people. In his church only white men could have power. If someone is a Christian to me they need to accept interracial marriage.
I think black men and white women make wonderful couple. It is tragic that the church has become an obstacle for this wonderful union.
What about black women and white men? That's my brother and sister in law's situation, along with most of their friends. My niece is the most beautiful baby I have ever seen.
Oh now that's just ridiculous.
Free Will Baptists? not familiar with this sect but lol @ irony
This may not be the point but:
"The vote by members last Sunday was 9-6, Harville said. It was taken after the service, which about 35 to 40 people attended. Harville said many people left or declined to vote."
Fuck the people who left or abstained. Their consciences are no less clear.
Oh well, good on the couple for giving the church bad press. Pretty bold of them since theyre in a very very small town in an isolated part of the US.
"Burden said the association can move to strip the local church of its affiliation with the national denomination if it's not resolved."
Good. Not sure if $ is involved with that, but Id assume so. Wonder if they have other options of churches to go to though.
Nice of you to say youre attacking organized religion, not faith. Im gonna steal that from now on.
Lol racial purity. These churches need to get with the times. Not out of being, you know, a good human being - but mixed race couples are awesome and our progeny shall inherit the earth.
Starting my own cult of Free Miscegenation
I don't know if you've ever seen Alex Haley's Queen but this reminded me of a scene where this guy was talking about miscegenation in front of his daughter's fiance, only to find out that the fiance fathered a baby with a slave.
Unfortunately though many people still believe race mixing is wrong which I don't understand. Luckily these people are dying off. It's not all religions, just more hardcore ones. I'm all for misgenation if it means I can get with the Old Spice guy. ;D
Why would you even want to be a member of a church like that? If "your" congregation apparently disapproves of your skin color or the skin color of who you choose to marry, fuck them. Don't go there anymore. Why would you want to worship with a racist group who looks down on you and your relationship? Don't stick around trying to change ignorant peoples' minds - leave and find a better church!
I totally get your point of view, and share that opinion as well, but it's a little more complicated than that. This girl's father is the church's secretary, so she most likely grew up viewing this church's congregation as her community and a kind of extended family. It's not always so easy for people to cut ties with their own history like that. Even if she does decide to leave the church, it's a matter of being betrayed by "her people".
I'm white and had a black girlfriend for more than a year. We encountered some level of racism on a weekly basis. Also, she took a lot of shit from her black friends and relatives because she was dating a "cracker"
Fuck 'em... they're ignorant and close-minded.
Ironically (in light of the above article), whenever I went to her Christian church with her, nobody said a thing about race, nobody gave us weird looks, and they were very welcoming. Like any other group or organization, there are nuts in all religions.
I've gone to black churches and in my experience have been more welcoming than many of the hardline white churches I've also attended (though not a regular church goer at). I was even asked to sing in a black church many years ago.
My brother and sister in law encountered racism from both her biological dad's family and my family. Her bio dad (who she rarely saw)lived in Mississippi and most of them disliked white people, and I sort of understand why. Her mom though was married to a white guy (her stepdad)so obviously her immediate family had no poblem. My grandmother though disowned my brother for years and even now is still not very friendly to any of them and it bothers me. I know she's old but her racist comments make me sick.
