Running MFC on Ubuntu/Linux
I decided to write this post as a tutorial(kinda) for anyone who may have been in the same boat as me. Even if this helps only one person avoid the suffering I went through, it's worth it.
Ok, so your running Ubuntu or linux and you want to use the MyFreeCams software, in browser or downloaded, you'll find that adobe flash hates your guts and will ignore your pleas.
Adobe Flash Player isn't very compatible with linux, when you want to change your camera or mic settings, you just can't. It's like clicking an image, the settings menu is frozen. Even when the popup that asks to 'allow' or 'deny' MFC access to your hardware is frozen, luckily you can just go into your Adobe setting online or in your computer to automatically allow MFC access.
This means that once you have allowed access it will load your default cam and mic. In my case this mean my shitty built in cam and mic. Imagine my disappointing when I realized I couldn't use my brand spanking new Logitech cam! No way to switch cams either! I tried!
I gave in, used my shitty internal cam for a while. But, suddenly my audio is turned off? But, it makes no sense?! Right. I cried over that because I knew if a moderator saw my audio was off I would be banned!
But all hope wasn't lost, because there is a program called VMWare which sets up Windows, the operating system, inside of your linux computer. Awesome! No more linux related problems! It's kinda heavy duty and takes a lot of space but if you are serious about this then check it out. Adobe works in it, so I'm sold.
Here is a link to a tutorial that I found really helpful

Thanks and I hope this helps someone out someday!
Re: Running MFC on Ubuntu/Linux
Oh Thank you! I've been looking for info on how to run it this way!
Re: Running MFC on Ubuntu/Linux
I know this thread is really old, but what version of Ubuntu were you using? 9.04 or older? I never got Flash working on those versions, on 10.04 and up it seems fine . . . at least for watching streaming video, Flash-based site design, etc. :\ I am willing to try the whole MFC mania, but I don't wanna send them my documents or anything if I can't use it!
Re: Running MFC on Ubuntu/Linux
I'm still trying to decide if I want to switch to Linux and use VirtualBox for MFC. I don't get on MFC much, though, and I don't want to lose Sony Vegas, so I don't know if it's worth it, much as I love Linux. :-P
