I hear a lot of stuff back and forth about gold shows. Hate 'em or love 'em the weird lovechild of MFC and SM that is a gold show can be a useful promotion tool or something fun to do when you're bored. Here's some math to look at to make them more profitable for you:
Time to break out your pens and pencils for the basic math!
Your lowest amount show rate per minute times thirty five percent (unless you're w/a studio) is the rate you make a minute.
3.64 * .35 = 1.27
Is the amount I need to make per minute to make this worth the same as if I were in group show and only one guy came in.
So the amount of minutes I spend in count down and the amount of minutes that the show are
10 + 15 = 25
25 * 1.27 = 31.75
I need to walk away with a minimum of 31.75 to not, as I like to say, "owe the house"
So, for the contributions to a gold show i would make:
20.00 = 7.00
15.00 = 5.52
10.00 = 3.50
Now it's just basic math. If I set the minimum to 10$ I need 9 people to join the show to make it worth the lowest tier of my time. So I'd set the contribution to 90$. If I set the minimum to 15$, I'd need a lot fewer people, (rounding) 6. Still adds up to the same dollar goal. It's just up to you to make the call whether your guys are fewer who will pay more or are more who will pay less.
So there you have it. The way to figure out the base minimum for a gold show.
Keep in mind that you'll probably get 1 or 2 guys who will contribute more than the minimum and 1 or 2 more who'll join the show just after you start it. Also, pad your minimum a bit! We're not doing this to survive! We're doing this to make the big bucks....yeah. Besides, 90 is a weird number. Make it 100, at least.
