Complying with the "Politics" Ban
I am NOT , repeat NOT arguing with the policy. It is what it is and I have tried my best to comply. I ASSUME ( sometimes a dangerous word , I know ) my recent posts have passed muster so I am posting some suggestions to promote greater compliance since it has come up in a few recent threads. This is how I do it but it is of course not an all inclusve list. Melonie has been very good about explaining the new parameters.
1. Try to focus on investing , personal finance, financial planning and other things that directly affect dancer income. That IS and always WAS the primary purpose of this forum.
2. Try to avoid discussion of government policy. Past , present or future. What you can do is mention the factual reality of let's say changes to the Tax Code and post suggestions for compliance or minimizing tax liability and the like. Likewise if you are posting stats that come from the government, it's acceptable because : where else are you going to get the numbers ? We do make sort of an exception for the Federal Reserve ( as Melonie explained ) but even there we try to avoid politics as much as possible.
3. Avoid mentioning particular politicians or parties at all. They don't need the publicity anyway lol. For one thing, I've stopped using terms like "Barney Fwank "; "Bush The Dimmer" or mentioning the current POTUS.
.
4. Avoid any kind of advocacy or critique of anyone or anything "political". Try to avoid filtering your posts through your own personal ideology or philosophy. Keep it as factual as possible and try to avoid injecting your own opinions. Again, an exception might be reasonable prognostication about such things as future inflation or investing in particular sectors like food or energy; buying gold etc.
Generally, discussing economic history is pretty much "off limits" so try not to do it.
5. Read, re-read and edit your own posts BEFORE you post them. When in doubt, leave it out.
If I can do it, it can't be THAT hard lol.
Take it for whatever it might be worth.
Wishing well to one and all.
Re: Complying with the "Politics" Ban
My opinion of this ban is that while I am happy to see the (Insert political party) is good the other is bad comments deleted (because I blame all politicians and both major parties) sometimes you need to discuss certain issues by mentioning the political party who supported that or even the politician. That's where it gets murky, because then it often becomes a political issue. Plus mentioning various social issues that often pertain to one or the other's political stance but often are the result of both of them.
I will state though that some people often think one is a particular political stance because of certain issues, not realizing those issues may be financial and not especially social. You can be fiscal conservative and socially liberal, and vice versa or anything in between.

We have discussed certain "social issues" that have direct economic effects e.g. single motherhood but we've had to be VERY careful in doing so. For instance, mentioning the increase in single motherhood and linking it to lives spent in poverty is acceptable. BLAMING one party or the other, or more particularly their policies along the lines of cause and effect is NOT.
Re: Complying with the "Politics" Ban
Yeah that's why I try to avoid the political aspects of that issue because to me it's a problem with both parties. I could be specific what I blame each party with but then that does get into politics so I leave it as that.
