my computer has been crashing suddenly the last few days :( ...thanks for the advice ladies, I'm going to try those programs
^^also make sure that all of ur drivers are updated. since i have updated mine, it doesn't crash so much anymore.
Been on SM for a couple hours so far and no issues...
I dont think it came from there or we would all have it.
I worked SM a ton yesterday and today and there are no viruses on my system. If they were infected you'd see more having problems.
Please don't be offended by me pointing this out - I think it's going to be important to try to pinpoint where it came from so you don't get reinfected!
I did hear of a similar infection recently from an attachment on a MySpace and Facebook account
maybe a bit of overreaction without proper analyzation?
I doubt SM is deliberately planting viruses on our computers or allowing them on thier system, since we earn so darn much for them. I use pop up blockers with my browsers and find that many nasties come in those things. U may have picked it up elsewhere or it might have been dormant. Ive used streamate last night and this morning with no problems. I run a virus program and i trust it to pick up anything.
Yes, I co-sign :)
I grew up using a Mac and then made mistake switching to Win and every 3-6 months had to take into the shop get it fix. Most of the time getting it fix would cost me hundreds. Waste money that should of just went on Mac in the first place. I went back to using Mac 2006 and it's still going like the energize bunny it may freeze up sometimes but restart and it's back to normal. The only time had to take it to the shop over being stupid typing on it while doing a bath cam show and it cause my Macbook keys to fuck up from my hands dripping with water.
Yeah, I am not buying this either. I was on there and nothing....
I have to log on tonight to try and make my nightly goal, Im nervous! IF there is something wrong with sm, It needs to be fixed!! I sent them a message.. No reply ofcorse.
Random question: This past week, I've had my computer crash like every other day, while I'm on Streamate, using the encoder. Everything else on my computer seems fine though. Could it just be the encoder making my computer do this? Or is it possible that Streamate is corrupted?
BTW, It ONLY happens when I'm camming on Streamate. I have my computer up pretty much all day, and it's never done it while I'm just surfing the web or just have it sitting.
wow fucking scary! I have signed into streamate to check my earnings but haven't had any emails to open or attachments to download. I think I'll be "breaking up" with streamate!
What else are you running on your computer while you run the encoder? Any other internet windows open while you do this? It looks like either your computer can't handle all the stuff that your'e making it do at once or there's a problem w/the encoder.
First, reboot your computer right before you use the encoder, don't open anything but SM and the encoder. If that doesn't solve your problem, install the encoder and your browser again, reboot the computer and try again. If that doesn't work you're at the limits of my computer expertise! :)
Not to rain on the mac parade, because I have a mac and I love it but...the reason macs don't get viruses isn't because they're some stellar security systems. They've got better security than a PC, that's for sure! That certainly helps. It's a bit more difficult to make a virus for a machine that has better security.
The major reason macs don't get more viruses is that they're only a tiny fraction of the consumer PC market. A malicious hacker's intent is to infect as many computers as possible. You can only design code that works on one or the other operating system, Unix (Apple) or Windows (PC). It won't work on both. Apple has 14% of market share in personal computers. So if you design a virus for it, only 14 out of 100 computers you expose will get it. Then from those 14, they have another 14% chance of spreading it to other compatible computers. Those are shit odds, so you design a virus for the other system, the one that's overwhelmingly used.
This is also the reason there are lots of companies that have software for the PC but not the mac. You've got to write your whole ap a second time in Unix. Why write for something that only 14% of your potential users will buy? Now, if you're a design software, oh fuck yes you're designing for apple computers, because most designers prefer macs, however, for the general market...but I digress. ANYWAY.
So yeah, macs are a better OS and do have better virus protection but that isn't why they don't get viruses.
I don't use the encoder and I always show up as broadcasting in HD
lol Kalypso knows that virus too! lol
Ruff one!
I didn't say they were a some kind of super secure system. I know why Macs don't get viruses.... I didn't post why they don't in my post, I was just saying that typically they don't. I didn't bother trying to explain why. Thanks for explaining it to others tho, I was too lazy to type an explanation when I originally posted that. :)
If any of you ladies have two computers, just use one for camming and Bullcrap. Use the other for stuff like banking or credit card stuff. And keep a good antivirus and firewall on both.
If not, it's no biggie. But seems to me it's safer that way. And on my IRL business computer I shut it down when not in use so that my internet isn't always connected.
eep! Well, this is a reminder that I haven't backed up in a little while. Probably should tomorrow morning...
However, I will say that I was on SM today and had no issues...
SO sorry this happened to you buffy!
That is a great idea. I'm def getting another computer that's just for camming and videos, at least that way if someone hacks me they won't find any really important personal info! I was going to buy another comp anyway, but I never thought to separate my camming comp from my personal one.
Trend Micro Titanium
It will cost you but its worth it in the long run
You'll be horrifed if you have been using norton or AVG when you install Trend, it will block websites from your bookmark list and find files on your computer that AVG/Norton said were safe
Best to 2 have 2 comps or a laptop/tower and keep your stuff separate
