I don't mind most of the changes, and in time I think it will be easy enough to navigate the more I use it. One thing I do miss, though, are the pink and blue ribbons.

White background is breaking my eyes... I don't think there is anyway I can get used to that. :( Hence haven't been back on much. Other than that seems alright.

I thought it was just me with the brightness. Some boards I frequent have color scheme options. I would much prefer a black background & white letters.

The Iphone app works really well.

Hey, guys! I really am trying to take all the feedback in, and come up with something you all will be totally happy with. There will be some more improvements made in the near future, especially with usability in mind. Take a look at this post for some info about why things are different now.
The part that kinda baffles me though are complaints that the site is "brighter" or the colors are different now or that the text is harder to read. Other than the (rather dark) purplish background where it says "New Posts Private Messages FAQ ..." near the top, the colors are pretty identical to how things used to be. I thought the site was kinda excessively bright before the upgrade, but I tried to preserve it the best I could to keep things familiar for you guys. The fonts and font sizes are also identical, if not slightly larger now. Just to make sure I hadn't accidentally changed things more than I had intended, I restored a backup copy of the site from a week ago, and compared the two versions, side by side (old is on the left, current is on the right):

The same colors are used in pretty much the same places. There are some unavoidable differences because of the things mentioned in that linked post above, but I'm not really seeing one of them being "OMG BRIGHT" and the other not, so I need your help!
Are some of you seeing colors that don't match what I have in that screenshot above? Or are you saying that it's not so much the colors that are different, but something else that's making you say it's brighter/harder to read/etc?

Re: Does anyone else feel that this site is hard to navigate and read with the new "L
I think it just feels brighter because the thread topics are no longer highlighted in purple like we're (or at least I'm) use to.
So there's just A LOT more white which makes it appear so much brighter.
and maybe because the 'last post' font is no longer in bold, it makes it appear smaller...
also, it could just be my screen, but the 'latest post' area, it seems so much more condensed to me now. I keep expecting it to scroll...lol
It could also just be that it just takes me time to get use to change..lol :P

I don't know if this is better or worse, but I turned on an optional different theme. This is very different from the current site's look, but if you're in the mood for a change, look allll the way down at the bottom of the page for a drop down box that currently says "Classic Pink". You can change that to "Modern Pink" for a completely different look that you may love or may hate. I'm out of time today, but next time I have a chance I'll add some more options.

I will definitely add some darker options, as well as fix the few cosmetic problems showing up with Modern Pink now the next chance I get.

The SCJunkie Blue is much easier on the eye to me. It seems to dampen the brightness of the white a bit.

OMG, the Modern Pink is SUPER fun!
Will you also be adding a Lite version in the future, Bob? I liked it for browsing with the images off when I was in a slightly-public setting.

Wow the modern pink and blue are perfect!!

Re: Does anyone else feel that this site is hard to navigate and read with the new "L
I agree, my eyes literally ache after just a few minutes.
The old site, at least on my computer, actual threads were a very pale pink, then darker pink for subject lines, etc. It was never a white background. The white is wayyyyy too harsh for my eyes.
Please forgive the old posts, I dont mean to resurrect old convos or users, but this is one I found.

I looked at old screenshots, and yup, no white! Just pink

Is it just me, or when you hit "reply" does it take you right to the "quick reply" section? I can't get a regular "reply" page with the smilies etc anymore... or am I doing something wrong?

Re: Does anyone else feel that this site is hard to navigate and read with the new "L
Oooh, I love the blue theme by the way!
-
Re: Does anyone else feel that this site is hard to navigate and read with the new "L
^^ It now just brings up the Quick Reply box, but at the bottom of the box is still the button that says "Go Advanced" that will take you to the standard Reply page with the smilies.

Modernpink seems the most usable so far. Have you read much about ergonomics and user interface design? It's not easy stuff to get right but an often quite neglected area. Even Google stuffed this aspect of their design up big time with their redesign. It's not so much the "colors" that make using some websites painful, but the relationship between contrasting colours, spacing, lines, blocks of color etc.
eg. with the default vBulliten4 style, the following things jump out at me:
- The "gradient" thing at the bottom of each forum section "blends in" visually withe the forum headings, resulting in more of a "solid band" of vertical color. With the old design, as your eye scans from the top to the bottom, the purple forum headings are easily filtered out by your brain. WIth the new design, every heading you read requires conscious effort by the brain, which is subconsciously tiring
- Lack of colored vertical dividing blocks between the forum summary, last-post counts etc. This removes the automatic "focus" the the eye gives to each column sectioned-off by a block of white or pink, and once again means you expend subconscious effort focusing on what is what instead of scanning down the column naturally.
I or someone actually qualified in usability could say much more, but I hope these are decent examples of how the issue isn't about style so much as the ease/pain associated with just staring at the words on the screen :)

Re: Does anyone else feel that this site is hard to navigate and read with the new "L
I don't like how there isn't enough space between threads. It's too close to each other and it makes things look small.

Re: Does anyone else feel that this site is hard to navigate and read with the new "L
Good Job Bob, Love the modern Pink but the date is in black unlike the time. Just hard to see when something was posted. BOB you need a Avatar as well?

Re: Does anyone else feel that this site is hard to navigate and read with the new "L
Do not like. I haven't been frequenting SW nearly as much since the change.

Re: Does anyone else feel that this site is hard to navigate and read with the new "L
How do you find someone's thanked posts?

Re: Does anyone else feel that this site is hard to navigate and read with the new "L
It;s in the "About me" tab on their profile

Re: Does anyone else feel that this site is hard to navigate and read with the new "L
I'm liking the Modern Pink much much better.
I would just like to add though, one of the things that kinda upset me about the changes, is that there is no longer any indication about whether or not there have been new posts in threads that you posted in since you last read them. I know on the main pages, you can still see the difference with the bold and unbold - but I used to like to go my pages of "recent posts" by me and just scroll through, looking for the little gold stars to see if anyone had added something new to a thread I was a part of. I really miss that. It made it much faster to find things that were relevant to me, rather than having to click through every subforum, searching out the threads I posted in to see if anything had been added.
