Do you really read what's in the contract?
I wondered about this question as I printed out the contract for one of the sites I recently applied to. I'm thinking about really reading in tonight, since it's pretty lengthy compared to the others I've seen. So ladies, do you really read the contract of the cam sites you apply to? Or, do you just glance through it? I think it's important to know what we're signing, no matter what company or industry it is. However, most of us are so excited to start with a new site or get started in the industry that we overlook it. I plan to be a little more cautious before I commit, you know? As long as I know I can cancel my account if I don't like how they work. I'm sorry if there's a post on this already, although I searched beforehand. I'm trying to get used to the new forum, especially the new "Search" function :/
Re: Do you really read what's in the contract?
Yes because I want to know what they plan to do with my content, what rights they have over it, and what if any, of my private information, their customers will be privy to. If you sign up for a site without reading the contract, you are effectively signing away your rights and have no one to blame but yourself if they treat you or your content in a way you did not expect.
Re: Do you really read what's in the contract?
not really...they all pretty much say the same thing..that they can do whatever the hell they want :-\
Re: Do you really read what's in the contract?
I want to see how many new and vet models read the contract or model agreement. I agree, that they pretty much say the same thing. The one I printed out earlier is pretty lengthy, and it caught me off guard. So, I'm reading it thoroughly to make sure that there's nothing against my wishes. Since I've been with the site before, I noticed that I last applied with them in February 2010! I wish I had known about this forum then! I hope this doesn't come off as a stupid question. I usually skim through the contracts, but I agree that it's important to know what you're signing, even if you can cancel your account.
Re: Do you really read what's in the contract?
if u don't read the contract that don't complain when you are plastered all over tube sites.
Re: Do you really read what's in the contract?
It is a shame that all the contracts say that they will use your content. I guess it's for advertising, I suppose. If anyone complains that their face is plastered all over the internet, they need to rethink this industry. Your picture or your video will be found on the internet, at some point. It's the risk that you just have to take.
Re: Do you really read what's in the contract?
Yes, I read through the contracts. Some of them are scarier than others, in terms of your privacy.
This is why I'm only on two sites.
Re: Do you really read what's in the contract?
LMAO I'm the only one who said no? I'm terrible I never read anything I'll ask "What is this?" I'll hear the first sentence someone says to me and start signing. I'm lazy or ADD or something. I can go into a store buy stuff and if you asked me how much my total was I would blank. Not a good policy to have I've had my account frozen a few times for not knowing the rules.
Re: Do you really read what's in the contract?
I have to admit that when I first started I would just do a skimming of the contract (I've learned since then lol) I didnt have a clue about SM putting vids on tube sites and all the shady looking sites they advertised through. Luckily I found SW and found it all out here. Now I definately read the fine print.
Re: Do you really read what's in the contract?
I usually reread it a couple of times before committing, just to make sure I don't miss anything.
Re: Do you really read what's in the contract?
I read the streamate contract, although I already knew most of the stuff on it from browsing through the forums.
Re: Do you really read what's in the contract?
I'm terrible with reading the fine print for stuff like iTunes updates, and user agreements (I only skim..) but I ALWAYS read the contracts for these sites in detail, and usually more than once. When it comes to selling my naked body online, you cannot be too careful. They could easily slip in an innocuous little clause that means that they own your name and brand - you don't notice, start up your own site, etc etc, and then BAM. They take you to court, and take all your earnings and hard work. You could think that you are being careful, geo-blocking, etc, and then find out that your show is being broadcast as part of an advert, or documentary, without your knowledge, and now everyone can see.
Lots of scary stuff can happen, and these are contracts that you NEED TO READ. Especially as once they are signed, they are legally binding. You may find a sympathetic jury who would support you if you were arguing a point about an itunes agreement, but you'd be hard pressed to garner sympathy because you decided to do porn and didn't read the contract.
It only takes a little while to read your contracts, make sure you understand them, think them through and then make sure you are happy with what you are signing. Taking those couple hours is absolutely worth it, every time.
READ BEFORE YOU SIGN!!!
Re: Do you really read what's in the contract?
When it involves my money and my identity I read EVERYTHING. Whether it's in the cam world realm or "IRL".
Re: Do you really read what's in the contract?
Always read your contracts.
