A Question...Having an Odd Gut Feeling
Hi all!
So last evening I went in and chatted with a guy who owns a bikini bar here in my area. Bar looks nice, but kinda small, and only a few girls working/dancing. There were also VERY few customers when I went in (at 8 p.m. on Friday night, I counted 2 guys sitting at the bar and 1 bouncer plus a bartender and 2 dancers that I saw.) Boss was nice, said I could work when I wanted, and there was big money to be made in daytime because guys came in then for "the real strip club experience" (wink wink from him). Okkayy. I'm no newbie, but haven't danced in some years and am having to go back now for a variety of reasons. In any case, he wanted me to start right away but I wanted to start tonight (and he said some huge birthday party was coming in so he wasn't sure how things would go). So I am to go back tonight. However, I am getting an odd vibe here and not sure why. Not sure if it's just that the club is so small and seems pretty quiet, or just something off about this guy...I just have that odd gut feeling that you get sometimes when something's not on the level. Should I go for it anyway? Am I just being paranoid? Input please! THanks!
Re: A Question...Having an Odd Gut Feeling
Idk, but if someone told me I could make big money on dayshift from guys who want "the real strip club experience" and then winked at me, I'd assume he was talking about extras...
Even at my first club, which was small and topless-only, the place was always much more crowded than 2 guys and 2 dancers by 8pm on a Friday night.... from what you describe, this place seems like a dive and, yeah, I'd go with my original guess that girls make money off extras with the few customers who come in.
Gut feelings are usually right. If this place seems sketch, I'd listen to your instinct.
Re: A Question...Having an Odd Gut Feeling
Unless this club was my only option I would go elsewhere.
Re: A Question...Having an Odd Gut Feeling
Thanks, Aurora. My first club was like what you described, small and topless only, but since it is FL, there were LOTS of extras in back. You could still do well without being an extras girl, but of course not AS well. In this place, though...I dunno. The vibe seemed different even from my old dive bar and from a bit of online research, it seems there are extras involved indeed (I know to take sites like tuscl with a grain of salt, but still). I thought his comments were VERY odd and interpreted them as meaning extras too. There is a HUGE gambling/poker type place nearby, so I can imagine maybe guys come in from there during the day, but still. Bummer. Another odd thing...there are "lingerie modeling" (ahem) places on either side of this bar. Hmm.
He also did say "the bulk of your money comes from the VIP rooms, so I hope you understand how those work." I thought that was an odd remark too, but in the context of it's extras then that would make sense. The "stage" in this place is a tiny cage in the middle of the room, so that means stage tips are gonna be tiny or non existent probably.
Shoot. I was really hoping for something better right about now. :(
Anyway, I appreciate your weighing in and letting me know I'm probably not nuts! Thanks!
Re: A Question...Having an Odd Gut Feeling
Thanks, Cairalis. (Cool name!) There are a TON of clubs around, but some of the more well known places won't accept me (I'm a bit older than some, and a few of the bigger clubs around here won't hire you if you aren't 22, 5'6", blonde and 110 lbs...not an insult to anyone who fits this description, but the club owners in these places are notorious for ONLY hiring this type of girl) so that does limit me a bit. I see a bunch of ads for other clubs around here, so I think I will keep exploring for something more. :)
Re: A Question...Having an Odd Gut Feeling
Call me crazy but I would check it out... there is nothing like first-hand info. If it sucks you can leave. If the boss goes creep-show, you can leave. The worst case scenario is that you don't bank and lose out on house fee. But at least you can be certain that it's not the place for you. Who knows, you may make oodles of "New Girl" money.
I think you are just nervous. Give it a shot...
Re: A Question...Having an Odd Gut Feeling
Hope this isn't a Very Special Birthday Party where they lock the door and everybody gets wild for a few hours <wink wink> That's the kind of situation I've seen at some bars.
Re: A Question...Having an Odd Gut Feeling
Ack! Didn't even think of that, though those were common back in Ft Laud in some clubs after hours. Yikes!
@ Sophia...I was tempted to do that, indeed, but that little voice in my gut is saying "Are you sure?" Just called and they said...wait for it...the owner is not even in tonight, only bartender, a floor manager, and bouncer and DJ. The plot thickens...

Check this out...it's a pic of the stage there, just to give you an idea...
Re: A Question...Having an Odd Gut Feeling
Whaaa... That stage freaks me out for some reason more than the idea of extras.
How do you do a thing on that pole without dying? If that's even a pole in the middle? Also... the dudes sitting in those chairs are freakishly close. I work in a club where guys lie on the stage to tip, so they get close, but I feel like that cage stage has zero personal space...
I'm guessing house is pretty low there, so I'd say try one night. If it's awful, run screaming and at least you know.

Wow, that doesn't look like a dive to me at all!!!!
Re: A Question...Having an Odd Gut Feeling
Update: I did take the plunge and go. Was...meh. It did get busier around midnight-ish or so, but mostly it was a lot of guys who wanted to either look and not tip or who wanted a VIP room (I was informed by management that VIP "started at 60-70 and went up from there")/ Custie wanted anal in there for double the fee and genuinely seemed puzzled when I said no. Imagine that. LOL All tolled, after house $20, (bartender approached and wanted $10, door guy wanted another $10), I walked with...try not to cry...$11. Live and learn. They seemed to like me and wanted me back, but it seems they are desperate for girls (they are advertising constantly on craigslist for new people, as well as custies), girls are loudly grousing about the lack of available $, and so on. Guess I', back to the drawing board. Thanks all!
(Forget who it was who was asking about the pole on stage...that is indeed their pole, and it is hard as hell to do anything on there or in there since it is in a TINY cage. Really all you can do is walk around it , spin a little, and gyrate...much more than that and you literally hit your head on the cage bars. OWW.)
Re: A Question...Having an Odd Gut Feeling
Honey in my experience, when that little voice is telling you something it's best to listen. Only misery comes from ignoring it. JMO but your gut is never wrong.

Lmao- roommate reading over my shoulder says, "Holy shit. I wouldn't even let my bf do anal for $140."
Re: A Question...Having an Odd Gut Feeling
Agree with ya SuperJa. The funniest was the way the guy reacted, like "WHAAA...? Whaddya mean no?" Guess he expected me to be all like "OMG! A whole $70 for me after the club cut for anal! Let's get to it right away!" Yah right...LOL

my thoughts exactly!!!
Re: A Question...Having an Odd Gut Feeling
Wow Violet that sucks to have such a negative experience. Always trust that inside voice, and if you don't feel comfortable in a club day 1, you should walk.

THIS! It sounds to me like they were taking advantage of you being new and you fell for it.

At least you tried and now you know...I probably would have done the same thing. Hope you find something nicer soon!
