Does your club put you on suspension or cut back hours if you call in sick?
I called in on Wednesday, showed up for my scheduled shift on Saturday. I dont like working Wednesdays.
The question/problem is that on Saturday, my shift, my boss sent me home because I called in on Wednesday, she was mad because I "screwed her over".
Oops I didnt know I have to work every shift with no exceptions.
I need to make my new schedule but I feel something is off. Shoud I go to a NEW club, or discuss the issue with my manager? or both. they do have a policy that I cannot work at competing clubs but I need to pay my electric and gas bill not to mention feed my family. help?

try talking it over with the manger and then if that doesnt work go to a new club.

If you like your club, talk to management and explain you were sick and that you didn't know they required advanced notice or coverage or something, if you don't, then go to a new club. Simple.

Some clubs fine girls. The majority of the clubs I have worked at forced me to make up the shift.
I talked about these practices in this thread: http://www.stripperweb.com/forum/sho...work&p=2275369
Is your "boss" lower on the totem pole than your manager? Since you're aware of the no-working-at-other-clubs Policy, I'm wondering if there is a policy regarding missed shifts. Is this something new?
Re: Does your club put you on suspension or cut back hours if you call in sick?
well this boss is the club owners' girlfriend. She makes our schedules, and does inventory of the adult store we have. Its a bit confusing time as we've had management turnover. We do have a day and night manager who count dances, sort out problems, etc.
Well if you can;t get another girl to cover your shift, and you call in a couple times a month they cut your hours/ days or only let you work one day a week.

This is a business hon. They need girls on the floor. If other girls aren't getting shifts because you say you will work and then you don't show up, they can potentially lose business. If you leave them high and dry multiple times of course they're gonna cut your hours.
Re: Does your club put you on suspension or cut back hours if you call in sick?
That is a fair decision. See my other thread, "she wanted me to give back the money"
which relates to this one, to put the whole picture together, and come to a valid solution.
It all ties together, and I feel caught in a web.
Re: Does your club put you on suspension or cut back hours if you call in sick?
Ah, I see. Ok then, I really seriously do suggest talking to management if you feel that threatened. But again, only if it's worth it to you to go through all this to stay at this club. If it's not, why not just go somewhere else and avoid the whole thing.
Re: Does your club put you on suspension or cut back hours if you call in sick?
Yeah, getting hours cut sucks!
If you really were sick, definately talk to a manager. If you just didn't want to work a Wednesday, suck it up, move on, and give more notice the next time you want a night off. Maybe talk to her about working a different night. You agreed to be there and then renagged when you took the day off. if sick, this sucks, if lazy, meh your bad.
Re: Does your club put you on suspension or cut back hours if you call in sick?
since when dancers are supposed to "make up for missing a shift/booking"?
Re: Does your club put you on suspension or cut back hours if you call in sick?
hell no! I'm PAYING them to work. They don't get to "make my schedule" or give me shit unless THEY are paying ME! One of the main reasons why I dance is because I get to make my own schedule and am not accountable to anyone else.
Re: Does your club put you on suspension or cut back hours if you call in sick?
^^ yeah!!!!!
In most clubs, we HAVE TO PAY, not the other way around.
Re: Does your club put you on suspension or cut back hours if you call in sick?
^I agree with you guys...this doesn't make sense if you aren't getting paid? To me, there isn't any incentive to adhere to a schedule in clubs that require the dancer to pay to work there.
Re: Does your club put you on suspension or cut back hours if you call in sick?
Usually in my experience if you are reliable and only call in sick WHEN you are sick you have nothing to worry about.

Perhaps it's the only club in her area where there is decent money to be made?
I really don't see the big deal with adhering to a schedule you yourself made. Independent contractors often work on some sort of schedule, and because of the nature of the business (like, you can't have an empty club because the girls only want to work on x shift), I don't think it's unreasonable to expect dancers to show up for their shifts. This stuff is generally made clear when you're being hired too, so it's not just a surprise.
Back to the OT though: If I recall from your other thread, you were too freaked over the other dancer to show up for your next shift(s). This is why it's important to bring up serious issues to management. All you can do is try and explain the situation, apologize, and assure them you'll be more responsible with showing up for your shifts next time. This may result in some cut down hours, but, it happens. If you're not crazy about this club, give another one a shot!

I can't give you an exact date.
In several clubs in my area, it is a fairly common practice.
To be honest, I'd rather make up a missed shift than pay an overblown fine. That's just my two cents....
Rather than rehash the issue, allow me to link to the previous thread I mentioned: http://www.stripperweb.com/forum/sho...work&p=2275369
I wish it were different. However, I have no interest in fighting the system.
