Re: I didn't know it was a strip club.. but I needed money so I started stripping!
And I hope she spends many years doing that for pursuing a crappy major like English.

Re: I didn't know it was a strip club.. but I needed money so I started stripping!
Reminds me of how much of a lame ass some civilians are.

Most of the girls I've talked to don't have someone else to rely on for money so stripping is their last resort. She makes it seem like all strippers wouldn't have to strip if they just handled their money better. What a dumbass.
She wrote the article because as an English major, journalism is a viable option. And what better way to get her foot in the door of the industry than with a sensational article that will surely garner further press!

Re: I didn't know it was a strip club.. but I needed money so I started stripping!
it was probably a right wing man who wrote the article.

Re: I didn't know it was a strip club.. but I needed money so I started stripping!
ok she just happened to walk into a strip club and ended up stripping... wondering what would have happened if she just happened to walk into a whore house?

Re: I didn't know it was a strip club.. but I needed money so I started stripping!
"I would wash myself over and over".....dramatic much? I knew I shouldn't have read this, now I'm all riled up.

Re: I didn't know it was a strip club.. but I needed money so I started stripping!
That article is retarded and clearly a story with an ulterior motive. I'd
question if the person writing it really did go to a strip club.
While stripping is not for everyone, she did not make one mention
of applying her money to her debt and at least feeling a little bit
relieved.

Re: I didn't know it was a strip club.. but I needed money so I started stripping!
Gah it's so annoying when someone who can't handle the job writes an article like this. I could have scrounged money off my parents but wanted to stand on my own two feet and have money for a longer term than just finishing up the year. Kind of offends me sometime when they write about all customers as pervy... actually most are fairly pleaant if not fun and they enjoy my company, not just pay to stare at me.

Re: I didn't know it was a strip club.. but I needed money so I started stripping!
lol @ "so I became a 'lap dancer' "....never heard of that term before. lol
"What do you do for a living?"
"Ohhh...I'm a professional lap dancer" :D

I highly doubt she was ever a stripper. If she was one, she must have only worked for like a week. She doesn't even understand the concept of how a dancer makes money in a stripclub. She makes it sound like she got the bulk of her money from partying with random men who insisted on groping her uncontrollably. The way she mentions how her manager dictated when she should go to the back with a customer doesn't sound right. Nothing she said sounds right because its not. Something is even off about the ambiance & tone of this supposed strip club she worked in.
She obviously made it up to agree with the media on the controversial topic of strip clubs in order to piggyback off the controversy & readership she gains from writing the article. She is an aspiring writer after all. That in itself made me not want to respond, but I decided I should respond so no one else gets fooled into believing her obvious facade of an "experience" with a transparent ulterior motivate.
And even if she really was a stripper and just so happened to work in a really bad club, its A JOB. Its not always going to be fun. There are going to be things you don't like about it. Its not for everyone, but neither is every job. Stripping has way more perks than most jobs though. Good $$$, flexibility, travel, exercise, make your own schedule (usually), taking as much time as you'd like off whenever you'd like. Honestly, I could write WAY more vile things about my time in retail than I could about my time in stripping.

Re: I didn't know it was a strip club.. but I needed money so I started stripping!
Wow, that was annoying. She was either never a "lap dancer" to begin with or she is just a really annoying and whiny rich girl.
BTW, GlamourRouge, your signature is very distracting. Makes it hard to reply after you because it stays at the top of the screen. Not really complaining though.. Yay boobies.

Re: I didn't know it was a strip club.. but I needed money so I started stripping!
Might have to go back to stripping once she graduates... For an English major, that article sounded extremely childish and forced - like something an eighth-grader would write for creative writing class... I highly doubt it would have ever even been considered for publishing if it wasn't so dramatic.

Re: I didn't know it was a strip club.. but I needed money so I started stripping!
Too bad there's no Comment section on the bottom of her little article.

I don't think that's dramatic.
First of all, there's no arguing that strip clubs are disgusting. Between the filthy men, some of the girls, the cigarette ash (in some places), the beer, the food crumbs, the close contact, all the naked people, and sometimes sex and drugs--it's a pretty good idea to shower and scrub yourself thoroughly before climbing into bed.
Also, I dislike stripping. In fact, I detest it now because the money in my area is extremely inconsistent and me traveling often for work is not a viable option because I am a full time student, I have a house to run, and I have a special needs child. With that being said, I think 99% of the customers ITC (if not all) are disgusting, they act like pigs, they repulse me--and when they oogle me, say inappropriate things to me, and touch me (even just putting money in my g-string), I feel degraded and I hate it. I am clearly burnt out. I made my money, and a lot of it, in my dancing career. I am thankful for the monetary opportunities stripping has brought to me because I do have things to show for it. With that being said, I am graduating in May and will only be stripping for extra cash (if at all). And with the exception of a 2-3 month period each year when my home club is good for $6,000+ in 4 weekends I will not be hitting the clubs anymore.
Just saying. I don't think there's anything wrong with strippers, I just think it's a natural feeling to be disgusted by the types of interactions ITC and want to cleanse yourself.

It's a fairly normal term for the job in the UK.
Just realised this is a UK article- had been to the pub last night so was a little tipsy. It sounds even more made up becasue as far as i know (though i've never been to Brighton) customers don't put money into dancers' underwear in England. Sounds like she's seen some movies with a strip club scene where guys do that and made the whole thing up. Seems odd to switch between selling dances and hosting/waitressing at the manager's whim. Again i've never heard of this kind of hosting role.

Re: I didn't know it was a strip club.. but I needed money so I started stripping!
I agree with you smeca....I really had trouble believing this article because customers don't put money in your knickers in the uk.

I think it just depends where you work. Many clubs don't allow smoking, don't allow contact, and attract only upscale clientele. I think it really just depends.

Based on the way certain words are spelled in the linked article and some of the colloquialisms included therein, my guess was that the author of the article was based in the U.K. Upon further investigation, I discovered that " TheSite.org is owned and run by YouthNet, a London-based registered charity which launched in 1995. YouthNet also runs Do-it.org, the largest database of volunteering opportunities in the UK."
I have no idea what it is like to work in the U.K. so I can't really offer much thought to "Beth's*" experiences.
That being said, stripping is what you make of it. It can be empowering or degrading depending on about a billion variables. Clearly "Beth*" wasn't suitable for the job. However, I feel that she began working in a strip club in order to manipulate/guilt her family into giving her a greater allowance.
The strangest thing about this particular piece is the fact that she is supposedly and English Major but didn't write the article herself. The actual author is Daisy Phillipson. So odd.

Re: I didn't know it was a strip club.. but I needed money so I started stripping!
There is not truth to this article. It was probably just some conservative / religious / 'feminist' young girl writing this shit. Its the typical damaged goods/beautiful and broken girl bullshit.

Oh snap! I just looked up Daisy Phillipson on thesite.org... Looks like we found our "Beth*" ....
Daisy Phillipson, 20, is an English Literature student at Brighton University. She hopes to do a post-graduate course in journalism followed by a year teaching English in China. Daisy is fed up with people taking part in protests with no meaning. If people are going to shout about an issue they need to find some goals.
"Beth*" writes: I was 18 when I started my degree in English Literature at Brighton university and life couldn't be better
I guess she did write her own stuff. Good for Daisy-Beth* or what ever her name is.

Haha! As do I.
Too bad for Daisy Phillipson/Beth*.... She's an aspiring journalist that sucked at stripping. Sophia_Starina, on the other hand, is an awesome stripper and a dynamic investigative journalist too!
