Re: Lets try to be positive and remember how blessed we are...
We are VERY lucky! I was arranging trips I wanted to take, and I could not believe that I was never able to take off and go on trips whenever I wanted due to my "boss" not letting me.
Oh, and you can laugh your ASS off at stuff like this. Seriously, I couldn't stop laughing:

I LOVE that comic! "English is speak becoming hardness." Epic.

I am grateful for the hours flexibility. We can work any time of the day or night 24/7 from the comfort of our own home:D as we like and many people cannot say that. I can totally wear my fuzzy little slippers under the table hidden from the cam and drink my green tea while making money!

thank you sarah for the awesome thread! i also wanted to point out that BOP and melonie are both absolutely correct in they're observations however u can't completely compare camming and stripping in general - that is like comparing apples and oranges in and of itself. with stripping, you do have an expiration date and physical appearance does matter heavily. i am petite myself and had gained like 15 lbs and management kept threatening me that if i did not lose at least 10 lbs, that they would not allow me to work in the club anymore, i was one of the very top earners in the club too. also a club owner can dictate how much/little u work and if u don't wanna be on the schedule u gotta pay a freelance fee of usually around 20-30 dollars per day (depending on the club, which varies) on top of club tip out and house fees. with camming everything is whole heartily accepted, u are ur own boss and everything that BOP had already pointed out is 100% spot on. camming and stripping cater to totally different audiences and work ethics in general. - i did not mean to thread jack it further but i really just wanted to point that out.
to be on topic, yes i am very grateful every fucking day since i started in this industry. i do remember what it feels like to be a min wage worker and how much i hated it. i remember when i broke up with my very first serious boyfriend. i did not have a pot to piss in and he had always took care of me. it made it that much harder to leave. but i did and went to go stay with my mom down south. i got a job at the local pizza place and was working a reg 9-5, 5 days per week. my boss treated me like total dog shit, everyday i was in tears and was always *this* close from walking out on him and telling him to shove up his ass, but i needed the money too bad so i didn't. the very little money i was making. i was making a little less than $300 for every two weeks with no benefits of any kind. on top of it my mom completely used me, sponged money from me to cater to her alcohol addiction and was always hard up for bills in the nasty cock roach infested trailer we were staying in. on top of that, had to deal with her drunken rampages and things got so bad that, i ended up having to go back to my bf that i had just left. even in my worst hours that i had since i began in this industry, it doesn't compare to the hell that i endured before entering the biz. this industry completely saved my life and sanity, it allows for my independence and growth as a human being. as fucked up as this may sound, i get way more respect from my cam custies than i ever did working a straight job. i have never felt so good for what i do and when i leave this biz, it's cuz i am retiring. i will never work a straight job ever again.

And unlike US camgirls, you don't have the option of NOT paying for health insurance in anticipation that, being young and healthy, your self-paid health care costs will actually be far lower.
I don't understand why someone would want the option of not paying for health insurance. The concept of 'young and healthy' is so strange to me. Having a baby, going to the ER if you fall out of a tree as a young child....there are a million expensive little things that can happen to you.....not to mention the big things one can't predict.
Plus that 40% isn't just for healthcare. We also have programs to help pay for medicine if you can't afford it, programs to help you find a job and unemployment insurance if you don't. They pick up garbage from the curbside and a million other things. The higher tax rate doesn't bother me. Seems like a bargain of a deal to me for 10% more. (*shrugs*)

Great point. I just want to add that nothing I said was intended to refer to stripping at all, or to be a response to any of the previous posts about stripping/minimum wage/etc. I have no experience with stripping, so everything I said was only meant to be about camming in response to the OP, and that talking about slowness or low earnings doesn't always have to be negative/complaining/a downer, and realistically pointing out the drawbacks of one career vs another need not be interpreted as ungrateful or saying they would ever choose the other career.
And I TOTALLY agree about feeling more respected and in control now than I've ever been in any other job. Last night I opened my youtube account (where I offer sample vids to drive traffic to my non-nude fetish clips on clips4sale) to see a hateful comment on one of my vids from a misogynist wacko: "You're a nasty, vulgar bitch and I hope you're wiped out by AIDS with all the other sluts and fa**ots". His channel was plastered with anti-woman, anti-gay, and anti-sex speech, talking about how great Stalin is. All I could do was LOL and told my boyfriend how happy I was, because at a few of my old jobs I've actually had to be polite to worthless pieces who acted like that, whereas now I can just hit the 'delete comment' and 'block user' buttons and be rid of him forever. :cloud9:

Well, this is probably a US specific thing. If a girl is in her early 20's without children, then the odds are 99.9% that any health problems she will incur over the course of the next year will be minimal. As such, compared to spending $5,000+ on private health insurance premiums, she can spend maybe $1,000 out of her own pocket for routine medical and dental care and save $4,000. If the 0.1% probability of a major health problem arises, US health care providers are still required by law to provide treatment even if she can't afford to pay out of her own pocket. And in the event that a major health problem results in $100,000 worth of medical bills, she can simply go bankrupt.
Once children come into the picture, the situation changes. This is where the girl faces a 'choice'. On the one hand, she can voluntarily limit her total annual earnings to stay below the ~$25,000 threshold for eligibility for 'free' state provided health care for herself and her child ... plus food assistance, rent assistance, utility bill assistance etc. Or she can decide to try and earn more money, but taking on the personal responsibility of paying for private health care insurance, market priced food, market priced rent, market priced utility bills etc. on top of steeper income taxes. Where independent contractor businesses are concerned, in most US states it requires that the girl earn at least ~$50,000 to begin to 'come out ahead' in terms of overall standard of living.

For me personally, it just seems like one heck of a bet. I have had a bunch of major operations that started at the age of seven that would of financially crushed my parents. My siblings have also had health problems from a young age as well. As well....and I know this is a whole different culture thing, I am happy that other people who do find themselves sick have the means to get better no matter what kind of job they have.
I have spent some time living in the states so I understand with health care the ability to have the choice to opt out is very important to a certain statistical part of the population and I won't deny merit to their argument. But personally, after growing up in a socialized system....I will just never get why people would make a hedged bet with their health.(*shrugs*)
I guess I have come full circle to the positive thing. Yes, I may end up paying more taxes as a camgirl -- but for me it is more than worth it. Sometimes there are certain situations that interfere with being narrowed down to normal statistics and I am in one of them. I have limitations that prevent me from being able to work a continuous 8 hour job and previous to this barely made enough money to live on. Being a camgirl has allowed me to have a standard of living that would of never been accessible to me before as my choices essentially were to be on the social system or get married and live off of a man. This being said, I am not discounting your advice Melonie. I respect the hell out of you and it is good advice! I just always seem to fit into one of those 'not applicable' categories.
In summary, hurray for camgirl life and hurray for SarahTime! :)
