The week from hell (at least for me)
Ok let me start this off by saying Friday the 17th was when it all started.
I have/had 2 computers hanging around my house and a plethora of computer parts/things (one of my hobbies is building computers). I like to think of myself as an intelligent person, however I did some stupid things. Very stupid things. Very, very stupid things. I have a few surge protectors hanging around the house, but only 2 were in use-the other 3 were sitting in my closet in a box. My two computers for camming are/were my macbook pro and my PC. My PC had some very nice specs and I recently upgraded it to 24 gigs of ram. I paid $600 to have it built for me by a guy that does gaming computers. I upgraded the ram myself (its pretty easy to do) and paid around $40 for the ram.
Anyhow lets get to the stupid things. I had both my pc and my mac plugged directly into the wall and not into a surge protector (I am kicking myself right now). No, they were not plugged into the same outlet, but they were plugged into two different outlets close to one another. Well the power went out....and when it came back on it must have sent a surge of electricity to both machines as well as my iphone docking unit. This is the first time something like this has happened to me, normally when a power outage has happened, once the electricity came back it did not effect my machines. I am kicking myself for not unplugging the items when the power went out and for not having them plugged into a surge protector (I never thought this would happen to me).
All my machines in my one room (docking unit, PC and mac) would not turn on at all! The surge caused a fuse to blow so I went to my box and switched the electricity back on. To add insult to injury I was in an exclusive that was going on 20 minutes when all this shit happened! After much phoning around and opening up my PC I found out I basically blew the motherboard. As for my mac, well I took it to a apple store and found out the surge blew my logicboard! FYI the logicboard is the same thing as the motherboard. Luckily my mac is still under warranty and Apple agreed to cover the repairs. The fucked up part is the Apple store took my mac and said it would take 10-15 business days to repair it. So I am looking at the second week of march when I get it back. We had a holiday here in Canada last week so that is obviously 1 day that does not count.
As for my PC I will get that work done when I can afford it. I have the money on me, but something rather important has come up and I need to hold off on spending money until I figure out what is going on with that. I went out and purchased a used iphone docking unit for $40.
I put together this machine from the parts I had hanging around the house. The processor is great, i7, but this machine can only take 3gig of ram. So camming has been a pain in the ass this week with that damn encoder. It keeps on dropping me. I have not been able to work much and when I do I keep on having to log on/off from the encoder in order for it to work. That's been a killer money wise as my customers are not going private. This is the first week in a very long time that I have made less then $300. Its fucking sad. Also that AW justcamit software is a pain in the butt...customers keep on coming into my room saying there is no picture/etc even when I do get a picture on my end (yes I have all the settings correct and have the right camera source). Imlive keeps on dropping as well. The only thing that works semi properly is my skype, that I use for NF calls.
Furthermore I am taking a trip next week to NYC. Thankfully I already paid for this in January (booked flight and hotel and set aside some cash for spending). I am not going to cancel this now as I really need to see my little brother and one of our family friends. I am only going for 4 days, I promised my brother I would see him and I won't let him down. My dog has to have a surgery the following week, again thank goodness I paid for this in advance.
I can't wait till I get my macbook back that way I can finally get back to working AW properly and SM.
Re: The week from hell (at least for me)
Sorry to read your having a hard time babe. At least you have a mini break to look forward to and while your there and take your mind off it all. We are into March almost. Time just flies by and you will have your Apple back in no time just sit tight. x
Re: The week from hell (at least for me)
So sorry about your week from hell! Hopefully everything starts going better, try to enjoy your trip to NYC!! :)
Re: The week from hell (at least for me)
I'm sorry Jenni, that really sucks! Don't beat yourself up though, we all do stupid things. Enjoy your trip!
Re: The week from hell (at least for me)
Wow, that's quite a harsh. I hope you can get everything fixed soon! Are all your other components still working fine? graphics card/memory/harddrive? Cpu obviously does. :o
I find it quite intriguing when a women knows her stuff with PC's. You dont see that often. Anyways have fun at your trip! :D
Re: The week from hell (at least for me)
I'm sorry that happened to you. But thank you for posting about it and reminding us not to do that. No offense meant. I hope that all goes well with your repairs & you get your machines back quickly.
Try to enjoy your time off. Your customers will be there when you get back. And it sounds like some time off could be refreshing.
Re: The week from hell (at least for me)
OMG that sucks!
At least you are fairly financially responsible, and have set aside money in case of emergency, and already paid for your trips. And its decently timed - you'll be away, so not working anyway, rather than sitting around the house stewing over the fact that you can't work.
Have fun in New York - relax, have an awesome time....and if there are still issues when you get back, or the repairs take longer than expected, you could always rent a computer....its rarer these days, but there are still places that let you do that, and it could bridge the gap...
